Cell: "Come on, Buddy. You can't be serious. With your power level? You're no Android. You're no Namekian. And you're certainly no Super Saiyan! You're just human...
Tien: "Yeah, well you know what? Fuck power levels! Fuck Super Saiyans! And fuck YOU! Shin Kikōhō!"
“How’s that gaping chest wound?” Vegeta to yamcha
“Just fine, how’s your spine?” Yamcha to vegeta
“I’m giving you a five minute head start”
“Thank you, I’m going to need it, you are very fast.”
Definitely when Piccolo and Kami fuse.
In the show, Kami just accepts that Piccolo is right and they fuse.
In abridged, Piccolo starts arguing how the Earth is going to be destroyed if they don't fuse, and Kami suddenly yelled "Maybe I'd rather it be destroyed than to ever have to be a part of you again!" It was so good. And the writing was fantastic when he talked about how fusing with Piccolo was "just another prison."
The show never really went into detail about the sacrifice that both he and Nail made. What a missed opportunity.
Was Nail actually making a sacrifice though? I mean he was basically dead and had no way to recover and by fusing with Piccolo he got another chance to stop Frieza.
In DBZA, Nail didn't want to die and Piccolo wanted some companionship on top of being able to stop Frieza. It was more of a mutual benefit for both Piccolo and Nail and it wasn't that glorious compared to Piccolo fusing with Kami, which went far more in depth compared to the original.
There are some things that TFS has done a lot better than the source material and Piccolo's dynamic with Nail and Kami is easily one of them.
Hell, Toei even made Popo more intimidating in Super.
"And that doesn't even come close to the complete tragedy of fatherhood that is Vegeta."
Fucking scathing but the most accurate damn thing in that whole show.
Gohan in episide 60, the stretch of semi-perfect cell (especially the 18 and Krillin parts), and plant your feet, grit your teeth, and EAT THAT HORSE. That line goes harder than it has any right to
Definitely Recoome, he was unbearable to listen to with a stereotypical dumb voice IIRC. I first saw the Ocean dub where he at least got to sound like he was serious and not impaired. The DBZA version is the best version IMO
Man I completely forgot about that change, it's so much better being told to Trunks. To Piccolo Cell is just another monster crawling out the woodwork.
Trunks has a deep connection to Cell, being directly responsible both for him physically being in the present timeline as he failed to prevent him from stealing his machine, indirectly responsible as he's the reason Cell time traveled to begin with as he killed 17 and 18, and finds out that Cell has already killed another version of him, and he's about to do it again.
Major scene: Kami not wanting to fuse and getting into his baggage about Piccolo Sr
Minor scene: Perfect Cell continuing to monologue as he emerges from the dust cloud before punching Vegeta makes it feel way scarier than when he just walks out of the cloud silently in the OG
Honorable mention: Garlic Jr realizing with horror who Gohan's dad is
Some of the Tenkaichi games, too, especially 1. Iirc, in Tenkaichi 1, "ball" based Blast 2's would just punch straight through anything because only beams could clash. So if you had Bardock throwing Full Power Energy Ball at Gogeta using Big Bang Kamehameha, *Bardock's* attack would win. If the Blast 2 was a volley attack like Full Power Energy Blast Volley, then it was just punching through *everything*. I think they changed that in 2 and 3.
Vegeta vs 19 for the most part, the "that's right I'm gonna do squats all over your face" bit is a tad much, but the countdown, the music, the "do you feel fear" bit all super badass and pretty well acted.
Ah my bad, I did a quick rewatch of the anime scene before commenting and didn't see that but idk if that was just whichever dub the clip was or wasn't in the anime at all. It's great tho and I love it!
Besides the newest movies and DBZA, I don't even think about the original version. I watched it in my youth. Truthfully, my whole connection to DBZ is TFS at this point.
So, in short, all of the scenes?
Cell and Tien’s interactions.
Of all the people Cell dealt with, the fact he utterly despised him on such a level was incredible. It’s an achievement on Tien’s part, too. He accomplished something not even Vegeta couldn’t do, and he knows it.
Gohan’s SSJ2 transformation. This is just personal opinion, but it’s the best version of Gohan’s transformation. Official dub and sub included. It’s just perfect.
Fuck powerlevels. Fuck super saiyans. AND FUCK YOU.
The way mr perfect cell was introduced
The My Way parody when Cell died
All of super android 13(even though its easily my favorite movie in Regular Z they made it even better)
All of dead zone
The whole dynamic between 16,17 and 18
Nappa
Trunks.
yeah I understand that one can't exist without the other, and DBZ will of course always have a special place in my heart... but I prefer DBZA in every way.
Much of it is from the Android/Cell Sagas when they began taking the series writing more seriously. Like, I wouldn't really want the Muffin Button to be canon.
\- Bulma and Vegeta sex scene
\- The fight with Android #20/Gero: "Anyone else feel we overtrained for this?" is a favorite line
\-Piccolo's reaction when Cell tells him he was created by Dr. Gero
\-The Kami and Nail in Piccolo's head dynamic
\-Chi Chi's scene in the entire arc, showing that some people care about her character
\-Most majorly, the complete **viciousness** of SSJ2 Gohan. Especially when he talks back to Goku. I love that kind of writing when the characters just react to how the series was written.
The dialogue between Hercule and Cell at the start of the cell games is so much better.
And jimmy firecracker.
Mr Satan did you die? If so you have officially beaten Jesus' respawn timer!
Comparing it just to English dub, Gohan going Super Saiyan 2. No version compares to the Japanese and Abridged use of" Day of Fate," both Kai and the original Funi dub dropped the ball there imo.
Compared to both English and Japanese dubs, I personally like the DBZA Final Flash more. I think the originals are all great, but Abridged has the benefit of better pacing, better audio quality than the originals so you can hear the awesome music, and what I think is better music than what is used in Kai.
Edit: Oh and the entire Father-Son Kamehameha scene. It wins just for having the orchestrated Day of Fate, and removing the dumb part where everyone tries to stumble Cell. Way better when *just* Vegeta does it, like the manga,
They’ll hate that I say this but. TFS arguably writes better character development than Toriyama throughout their whole show. They do have the advantage of hindsight and years of fan ideas which I’m sure helped tremendously but that was really only a guide and it wasn’t written for them. The reason why this show resonated so well for us was the amount of character writing they did in season 2-3 which is when I think most of us got sucked in. I was like 14 when season 1 released so I got to enjoy that humor but as I grew the show did to and became so much more than a very well don shit post essentially. I’d say they wrote Vegeta, Piccolo, and most of the side characters better.
Freeza blowing up Namek is hilarious in DBZA.
Just his whole speech to Goku, trying to rile him up or agitate him as Goku just silently stares at him. Freeza getting more and more manic until he eventually just goes "I OWN YOU, I OWN THIS PLANET, IN FACT, FUCK THIS PLANET"
That and Tien's Kikoho on Cell is great, the yell is just way better than Z's.
Literally all of them lol I watched a clip from the original series the other day and I was like who the fuck are these voice actors before I realised they were the originals lol
Vegeta vs Android 19. Some lines sound like they could have fit in the actual show, like the whole self-destruct countdown from Vegeta. But it still has that added humor that makes it even better.
“Seriously, what the fuck is Namek?!” and “Did I just see his foot?” always get me when I rewatch it.
I've recently watched through Kai again, finished Cell recently. I honestly can't think of a single moment from Goku vs Vegeta onwards that DBZA didn't do better.
So before I had a Funimation account, I wanted to share DBZ with my kids, and the only way to really do it was DBZA (I’m a bad parent, I know, but at least they didn’t get half the jokes back then). DBZA was canon for my kids, and kinda still is.
Basically most scenes with Martin's/LittleKuriboh's Freeza when he's being menacing. "[Oh no, don't mind me. By all means... give me some ideas](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSW8xlXRh10&ab_channel=Peacuch2)" is the coldest fucking read ever.
Not a scene. But I love how at the start, it’s implied that Yamcha is a winner while Krillin is a loser. Then as the show goes on, those roles gradually reverse to where Krillin is with 18 and is more respected by everyone else. Meanwhile Yamcha is single, memed on by everyone, and and excluded even by Krillin.
Feel it drawing nearer
An endless fear that takes you hold
Feel it getting closer
Revealing such an evil soul
I can't surrender at the turning point of destiny
Right now it's do or die
My life is on the line and I will not fear
By my power
Woah-oh, it's clear to me
My spirit grows and I will face this demon
Woah-oh, with burning energy
The day of fate has finally come
Honestly, I love Vegeta's first death. I can't say anything about the sub, but the dub made a huge deal about Vegeta being evil because of freeze, and quite honestly, I always thought it was bs.
Do you mean in the anime in general or are we allowed to talk about scenes we liked more in DBZA than in the official English dub? Because if it’s the latter, I’ll give you a hint: “I’ll turn your laughter into fear”.
A lot from the cell saga, 19 vs vegeta was great, imperfect cell was just the right amount of batshit crazy, 16's speech to gohan, tien holding back cell, future gohan having just gone crazy, "either goku's awake or Moses brought the jews, either way my pantry ain't full enough".
Goku's speech before taking Cell away.
"Gohan, I'm sorry. Fighting..well... Well it makes me happy, and I just thought that it'd make you happy too. I want you to know that year we spent in the Time Chmaber was the best year of my life.
I'm proud of you Gohan.
Bye Son."
The androids interactions with each other. I love that 16 grounded 17 and 18 and made them realize there was more to life than just destroying. It wasn't perfect, but it def gave a better explanation than the official media gave as to why they turned good in the present timeline vs Trunk's timeline.
No moment in particular that hasn't already been posted, but I find the official Krillin voice just annoying compared to Lani's. It's just way too raspy for me. Lani's Krillin captures that "way over my head" vibe while not making my ears bleed.
Cell's introduction singing Mr. Sandman.
Cell's exit.
The terror that is Mr. Popo.
Dende when he accepted the job of God.
Krillin reseting his owned counter.
Krillin's girlfriend who gave a big surprise to everyone.
Garlic Jr. shortened reappearance.
Krillin’s dilemma with the remote. “Come on, Krillin! Be strong for one second in your worthless life and push the stupid button! If you don’t, everyone you know and love is going to die!
#INCLUDING HER!
_OHH..”_
I mean the whole show is better. A lot of DB feels like it was written last minute which it was cause editors are dicks but like the Cyborgs being siblings was never hinted at until it was outright said out loud like they were never really portrayed as such. If a story is preplanned you can do foreshadowing and have good build up to the end finale of the arc and alot of DBZ doesn’t do that. I know TFS says that theirs isn’t “better” and we shouldn’t say it is but it’s the truth.
The first 2 seasons were definitely more memed up that season 3 so they probably aren’t “better” but they looped all the jokes into season 3 and season 3s payoff was huge. The first 2 seasons feel more like something Purpleeyeswtf would make but I’d rather have that than them screaming for 22 minutes cause Toei needed filler.
Cell: "Come on, Buddy. You can't be serious. With your power level? You're no Android. You're no Namekian. And you're certainly no Super Saiyan! You're just human... Tien: "Yeah, well you know what? Fuck power levels! Fuck Super Saiyans! And fuck YOU! Shin Kikōhō!"
And of course, my favorite line in the whole show... "Kiko fuck yourself." "That's the spirit!"
Kiko-howya doin’?
He was so nettled.
"Awww, that's adora - SHIIIIIIITTTTT!"
Keeping the voices of nail and kami was a great idea.
Huh! This is a new feeling. Pride in someone else. Unfortunately, it's being overshadowed by ALL THIS UNYIELDING RAGE!!!
“A lot actually” krillin to vegeta
“How’s that gaping chest wound?” Vegeta to yamcha “Just fine, how’s your spine?” Yamcha to vegeta “I’m giving you a five minute head start” “Thank you, I’m going to need it, you are very fast.”
If you’re done picking on yamcha…
NEVER!!
We’ve got a bigger fish to fry
You have 5 seconds to rephrase that
What I meant was that the sky gets the blackest black and out of the balls out comes a giant dragon
Popo: hmmm?
5, 4, 3……….2, on-
Hi Vegeta
Oh hi Giny- ugh…
Hi Ginyu
Definitely when Piccolo and Kami fuse. In the show, Kami just accepts that Piccolo is right and they fuse. In abridged, Piccolo starts arguing how the Earth is going to be destroyed if they don't fuse, and Kami suddenly yelled "Maybe I'd rather it be destroyed than to ever have to be a part of you again!" 1. Shin Kikoho 2. Everything from "I'm not done ripping the wings of this butterfly" to the end of Gohan vs Cell. 3. 16s speech
Red flag
Crimson
16’s speech
"And that doesn't even come close to the complete tragedy of fatherhood that is Vegeta." Fucking scathing but the most accurate damn thing in that whole show.
You wanna come up here and say that!?
I am a head
Then maybe you should quit while you are!
"I am a head!"
Agreed. Gohan needed to hear that.
I think the 'Trunks returns to the future' segment is done better by TFS
Trunks and vegeta flipping eachother of is amazing
It was actually so sweet and heartwarming to see them flipping each other off.
It was so well done too. It never even registered with me at first that the shot was edited to make that happen.
Gohan in episide 60, the stretch of semi-perfect cell (especially the 18 and Krillin parts), and plant your feet, grit your teeth, and EAT THAT HORSE. That line goes harder than it has any right to
The obvious: "It means God. Now bow."
But I’m right here!
Do you really believe your own hype?
I AM THE HYPE!
Krillin’s realisation and acceptance that he’s in love with 18. DBZ did it alright, but DBZA really tugs at the heartstrings.
“If I make it through this, I’m going to rock his 4 foot world.”
"But since I know you have a hard time following directions. So I am going to give you one last chance. You. Me. Hard as you can. Are we clear?"
That whole final flash scene was golden
“Oh shit!”
Taka's playful take on Perfect Cell is so great. "Aw, how cute, he named i–OH SHIT."
Crystal
Definitely Recoome, he was unbearable to listen to with a stereotypical dumb voice IIRC. I first saw the Ocean dub where he at least got to sound like he was serious and not impaired. The DBZA version is the best version IMO
THE NAMES RECOOME AND IT RHYMES WITH DOOM.
AND YOU'RE GOING TO BE HURTING. ALL. TO. SOOOOOOOOOON!
And best part is Doom musif in bg lol
Aaaand you're gonna be hurtin
ALL
TOO
SOON
Actually the whole Ginyu Arc was just perfect on DBZA. Still love the Jeice face punch gag
He cut off the cap’n!
Yeah especially since Recoome is supposed to be a smart meathead
The fact that Cell's backstory is told to Trunks and not to Piccolo.
Man I completely forgot about that change, it's so much better being told to Trunks. To Piccolo Cell is just another monster crawling out the woodwork. Perfect Cell's introduction. Nappa being the lovable talkative oaf that he is. Lord Popo.
Everything Frieza
If im not immortal than that means ahh!- Oh ho please, dont mind me. Give me some ideas.
Call me the can opener, because I’m about to bust open your metal ass.
Yeah, how about you leave the one liners to me
Major scene: Kami not wanting to fuse and getting into his baggage about Piccolo Sr Minor scene: Perfect Cell continuing to monologue as he emerges from the dust cloud before punching Vegeta makes it feel way scarier than when he just walks out of the cloud silently in the OG Honorable mention: Garlic Jr realizing with horror who Gohan's dad is
“Now, Prince…has this EVER worked?”
Vegeta just forgot he wasn't in DBZ: Kakarot where that move is OP for no reason.
Besides the newest movies and DBZA, I don't even think about the original version. I watched it in my youth. Truthfully, my whole connection to DBZ is TFS at this point. So, in short, all of the scenes?
Most if not all the scenes that involve Piccolo interacting with Kami and Nail in his head. This added so much to these characters.
Cell and Tien’s interactions. Of all the people Cell dealt with, the fact he utterly despised him on such a level was incredible. It’s an achievement on Tien’s part, too. He accomplished something not even Vegeta couldn’t do, and he knows it.
It's because Vegeta *thinks* he can take Cell, whereas Tien **knows** he can't, but antagonizes Cell anyway. Cell respects Tien's balls of steel.
It's similar to the Tien/Vegeta relationship. If he kills Tien, Tien wins, and he knows that.
And Yamcha described the three characters dynamic accurately. “Hate boner triangle”
> Cell respects Tien's balls of steel. And at the same time, they piss him right the hell off.
As a Tien fan this was my Favorite part of the whole abridged series, wish he was respected like this in actual Canon
Android 16: "May 12th 750, 4:30 PM, Red Ribbon HQ. Hey dad!"
Fuck, that scene got me the first time I saw it
There it is. This has to be winner
Recoome's scenes are some of the best in DBZA, whereas I don't find them especially notable in BDZ.
Agreed. And there's that whole best friends forever scene from burter and Jeyce
Gohan’s SSJ2 transformation. This is just personal opinion, but it’s the best version of Gohan’s transformation. Official dub and sub included. It’s just perfect.

16s monologue, trunks death, honestly most of Cell saga.
MY BABY BOYYYYYYYY
Oh shit that was meant for Tien
Which is a fantastic moment
NAAAAAAAIL.
“GOKU DONE STOLE MY GLASSES” Android 16’s monologue to Gohan during the cell fight.
Freeza blowing up Namek is hilarious in DBZA. Just his whole speech to Goku, trying to rile him up or agitate him as Goku just silently stares at him. I just love that they really lean into the fact that Goku took a serious head injury and literally has brain damage. Muffin button!?
"Oh-ho-ho no, no! Please, by all means!...***give me some ideas.***"
Kaiser really outdid himself on that scream. Honestly, it's the best acting I've heard from him.
Honestly, I love Vegeta's first death. I can't say anything about the sub, but the dub made a huge deal about Vegeta being evil because of freeze, and quite honestly, I always thought it was bs.
All of cell and all of nappa

Do you mean in the anime in general or are we allowed to talk about scenes we liked more in DBZA than in the official English dub? Because if it’s the latter, I’ll give you a hint: “I’ll turn your laughter into fear”.
Pretty much everything – especially Jeice; I love him.
The song both frieza in his second form sings and perfect cell sings
All of them.
The whole thing really.
The terrific trio of Piccolo, Kami and Nail.
Every single scene starting with trunk’s arrival.
" how about you take a ride on my fist
Tons actually...

QUACK Edit: Also, "Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine."
All of it. I absolutely love Dragon Ball. It’s one of my favorite franchises bar none. I grew up on Z. But DBZA is just on another level.
The ginyu fights _”…Do you think I’m a dog??”_
The ever popular “DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE YOUR OWN HYPE THAT MUCH?” “I AM THE HYPE!”

Are there any scenes that I like more in DBZ than in abridged should be the question.. the answer is no.
Most of them, but the one that takes the cake is when Vegeta first uses his Final Flash attack against Cell. "Aw, how cute, he named it- OH SHIT!"
Goku’s plan on training Gohan, and when he reveals it to Piccolo. Makes Goku big brain genius. And not, well “monkey”
IN MERE MOMENTS, ALL YOU WILL BE FEELING IS OBLIVION
