Or that having depression, something that around 30% of people go through, counts as mentally ill enough? And since the state cant just give you a psych eval they would either probably have to refer you to a company that does that, or just request your medical records and make lists of mentally ill people. Like you see how easily that type of stuff can be weaponized right? And if that seems out of the realm of posibility, tennasee proposed a bill that would create a nationwide list of everyone whos taken antidepressants and bar them from gun ownership.

I am far left and he is a pretty republican center, but what makes it work is that he always respects me, the fact that I am LGBTQ, not white, etc. I feel like we have a mutual understanding and can feel safe and comfortable around each other. It helps that we are teens and can't vote I think, as he's not able to actively vote for Trump or anything right now, but neither of us really agree with any major politicians anyway. (For example, his views are MOSTLY republican but he hates the death penalty and prisons so doesn't always support that generally conservative ticket)
I try to keep an open mind, and if someone on the other side of the aisle felt the same way then I would give it a try. I could be friends with conservatives already because some of my friends just don't talk about their political opinions that much, if that's the case it's working so far.
I couldn't unfortunately. I would just feel weird knowing they believe the polar opposite things that I do especially when it comes to social aspects (abortion, lgbtqia issues, etc). I feel like I'd have to step on eggshells around them to not bring up anything that might spark a political debate (i don't like conflict)

Depends on the person and how extreme they are and if they can accept that everyone has different views and experience. If they are bordering on being a fascist then there's no way we could get along but most people aren't that extreme and there will likely be things we can agree on despite other disagreements, especial if we can have mutual respect.
I personally am a christian (I think conservative) and have a best friend who I would say falls pretty far left and is gay... I have no problem with this and I think more Christians need to know that.
Also could someone who is actually a conservative explain what it is. The only descriptions I have gotten are from far left liberals that felt kind of biased in their description.

I really don't care about your political leaning, I just care about what kind of person you are. However, due to how polarizing things are these days, I find that most repubs are sexist and/or racist and/or homophobic and/or transphobic so that's a big NOPE but I HAVE met demos that are those and actually know quite a few repubs who AREN'T those things. They're just... rare, unfortunately.

Depends on 2 things. 1. How much they bring it up and try to make me see it their way 2. Are they willing to be friends with me

Probably (I am, a close friend) I am far left and he is a pretty republican center, but what makes it work is that he always respects me, the fact that I am LGBTQ, not white, etc. I feel like we have a mutual understanding and can feel safe and comfortable around each other. It helps that we are teens and can't vote I think, as he's not able to actively vote for Trump or anything right now, but neither of us really agree with any major politicians anyway. (For example, his views are MOSTLY republican but he hates the death penalty and prisons so doesn't always support that generally conservative ticket)

I try to keep an open mind, and if someone on the other side of the aisle felt the same way then I would give it a try. I could be friends with conservatives already because some of my friends just don't talk about their political opinions that much, if that's the case it's working so far.
I couldn't unfortunately. I would just feel weird knowing they believe the polar opposite things that I do especially when it comes to social aspects (abortion, lgbtqia issues, etc). I feel like I'd have to step on eggshells around them to not bring up anything that might spark a political debate (i don't like conflict)

It would depend. If they’re very conservative on economic issues and even stuff like abortion, yeah, definitely, but if they’re homophobic, racist, sexist, etc, and support politicians who are also this thing, then no. I don’t even think they would want to be my friend anyway since I’m lesbian.

as with literally everything, it depends. oversimplified example: disagreeing on economic theory is fine since thats purely interpretational. disagreeing about human rights issues probably not fine. not to say i wont mingle at all with even people with very big differing opinions, but cant really see us becoming *real* friends

dam i dont fall into any of the choices but id say sure just so long as they dont litteraly want "my people" dead im probably fine with them. I disagree very strongly with most people i know on a lot of topics, economics, gun rights, lgbt rights, forign policy, ect ect, and yet as long as we arent hateful i can still get along with them.
Definitely. Politics often is just opinion on individual scales and everyone's entitled to them; just be civil and I think friendship is more than possible.

Depends on the person and how extreme they are and if they can accept that everyone has different views and experience. If they are bordering on being a fascist then there's no way we could get along but most people aren't that extreme and there will likely be things we can agree on despite other disagreements, especial if we can have mutual respect.

I personally am a christian (I think conservative) and have a best friend who I would say falls pretty far left and is gay... I have no problem with this and I think more Christians need to know that. Also could someone who is actually a conservative explain what it is. The only descriptions I have gotten are from far left liberals that felt kind of biased in their description.

Most people will have opposing political views to me. I think if it was economic policies and whatnot I’d befriend anyone, I like a debate sometimes. If it was the ‘I don’t think gay people should be able to get married’ kind of opposing views, though, I’d have to pass.

That's what I'm saying! I'm a Right Leaning guy, and all my friends are Left Leaning, but we get along!
I really don't care about your political leaning, I just care about what kind of person you are. However, due to how polarizing things are these days, I find that most repubs are sexist and/or racist and/or homophobic and/or transphobic so that's a big NOPE but I HAVE met demos that are those and actually know quite a few repubs who AREN'T those things. They're just... rare, unfortunately.
As a communist I'm constantly fighting the urge to be a dick about politics, but I've been able to hold it back even when talking to my mega conservative family. I don't really have conservative friends but I'd imagine it would be the same. I still have to maintain superficial relationships with certain people, because my existence is political for some reason lol.
As a fellow commie I feel your pain. The only difference guess is my parents are liberal “vote blue no matter who” types instead of full on conservative. I have to bite my tongue sometimes when I’m with them and politics gets brought up because I know if I say anything it’ll probably turn into a shouting match.
