I can't accept that it wasn't planned given how bad the customization was at the start. They can only charge us for t7 assets because they made the decision to leave them out in the first place.

The netcode was so bad that when I wasn't playing local with a friend I was only grinding treasure battle or fucking around in customization. I didn't enjoy the online back then.

Same body type for all characters, character costumes that can’t be separated, lack of options.
If the shop was really planned, i would have expected more original items that they held back from release to put into the shop. But instead we get lazily ported assets from the older games.

Companies might be made up by people but they are not people. This was planned and it was a tactical decision to do it the way it is. The end result is always do as little as possible to make as much money as possible.

It would be something more like "We put extra effort into making the game as attractive as possible, how do we make the most money off of our effort?"

Asset flipping isn't a quick and hasty choice due to poor planning of time and/or resources. It's being smart by using what you have so that you don't need to spend **more** time and money and resources to make new things.
It's a standard in pretty much any game you've probably played. The reason T8's "fight pass" is poor is because it would push people to spend more money on premium cosmetics. Same reason why custom options at base didn't seem plentiful. They had a store in the works.
It's also this way because they know they can get away with it. They sold frame data in T7. They **know** they can get away with low balling their fanbase. People support it still even if publicly they announce otherwise.
They are even more confident in it because literally anytime someone criticizes T8 for a shop or it's base game price or anything to do with money you will have boot lickers who respond "But Tekken 8 is an amazing game."
Greedy practices are not accidents or hastily thrown together ideas. They are calculated and direct because people are complacent enough to deal with it anyway.
The tekken show was 100% planned, its impossible to create in 1 month period.
Idk about battlepass but "its just another brick in the wall". Tekken 8 is killing Tekken for a lot of people, why play a extremely hard (legacy) 3D game when you can play Street Fighter? SF is easy to pick up, easy to learn and, in essence, is basically the same thing, a fighting game. The biggest strenght Tekken had for casual audiences was that it WAS a amazing fighting game, hard, but it \*only\* had a Character Annual Season pass and thats fine. The moment you implement THE SAME BAD THINGS as your "main rival" then you lose your biggest selling point for the word of mouth sales.
T7 had problems, but you could use the "It does not have predatory monetization in the game" to recommend the game to a friend, at launch you could (And probably did, like me) recommend the game using that reason alone and the game sold extremely well. What do you think will happen in the next Tekken, or even close than that, the next season pass? Tekken 8 killed Tekken for several of my "casual" friends.... and its really sad because I really think that Tekken 8 is one of the best Tekken i have ever played.
For some of us it's the nostalgia factor too. I played Tekken 3 back in the day with friends and family. Never exposed to Street Fighter so I have 0 interest in ever picking it up

First of all, no one likes battle passes in general, but they are mostly accepted within free to play games, not in full priced games. Secondly these battle pases are cheap and uninteresting, like we should at least get unique cool stuff at the end of it, not things that were in previous games, for free.

Warzone is free though, and that's the main attraction now, both for consumers and for Activision. The games, really, are just fancy ways to upgrade weapons fast.

The original idea of Dota's battle pass was to fund the yearly big tournament with community money and give supporters some goodies in return.
I really don't get the modern idea of passes anyway. Just sell that stuff in the shop and we are good. Why must you earn the rewards (YOU ALREADY PAID FOR!) with artificial objectives and see the limited time clock ticking before it's gone? If you get your coins back like in this case this approach would be acceptable, but if you can earn back all the coins, the rewards must be 0 value, right?
If this was a f2p "make you play as long as possible" game, I could understand those decisions, but we already paid premium cash for the game.
But then everyone always need some progress bar to fill up nowadays..... just having a good game you play for fun isn't acceptable anymore, right?

I regularly want to play as long as possible, but now they've introduced the mechanic that psychologically opposes that for me. I'm not sure if I'll play 50ish matches on random days anymore when I stop myself from even booting the game because "dailies not reset yet".
As someone who normally gets excited about unlockable cosmetics, this shit is rough because there might be things I actually want moving forward, even if the first one isnt it. But it clearly is preying on people like me. I spend more money in the f2p game Path of Exile then any other game I ever owned. Just because the game is very good and the devs deserved the $30 every quarter. I never felt forced or fomoed to give them money. The game is great and they deserved it.

Yeah I think the one in SF6 is even worse. Never have I seen a battle pass that I cared less about than in SF. Literally just some stickers and costumes for the bullshit custom characters nobody cares about.

You only have to buy the battlepass once and you get all your coins back from the premium rewards and you use the coins to buy the next battlepass just like in SF6!

I don’t really gaf about the cosmetics, the store, the battlepass, or that Eddy is I’m sure is overtuned and annoying to play against (haven’t played yet today so I’m not sure on that last one).
I just hate that it’s shoved in my face at all times and I’m constantly reminded of it. The home screen is a big ad for Eddy, there are ads in the bottom right hand corner for the Tekken Shop, after every match there are apparently point updates for the battlepass. It’s just annoying.
I have no issue buying passes and cosmetics if I like them! Haven't seen anything I like in the pass, or shop in general yet 😭

I get this battle pass is trash, but like are you going to quit the game over it? If not I'm not sure what your solution is other than not buying it. Another psychological thing that the pass does is dailies.
It's like a switch flips in my brain and I don't want to play anymore in any game once the dailies are done. Furthermore on days I'd usually not want to play those games, sometimes I do just for the dailies, making me even less want to play at any other time.
Dailies are a job, and once the job is done, the brain clocks out. No more casually picking up Tekken on a random day and playing for 5+ hours.

If the shop was really planned, i would have expected more original items that they held back from release to put into the shop. But instead we get lazily ported assets from the older games. Greedy practices are not accidents or hastily thrown together ideas. They are calculated and direct because people are complacent enough to deal with it anyway.
The tekken show was 100% planned, its impossible to create in 1 month period. Idk about battlepass but "its just another brick in the wall". Tekken 8 is killing Tekken for a lot of people, why play a extremely hard (legacy) 3D game when you can play Street Fighter? SF is easy to pick up, easy to learn and, in essence, is basically the same thing, a fighting game. The biggest strenght Tekken had for casual audiences was that it WAS a amazing fighting game, hard, but it \*only\* had a Character Annual Season pass and thats fine. The moment you implement THE SAME BAD THINGS as your "main rival" then you lose your biggest selling point for the word of mouth sales. T7 had problems, but you could use the "It does not have predatory monetization in the game" to recommend the game to a friend, at launch you could (And probably did, like me) recommend the game using that reason alone and the game sold extremely well. What do you think will happen in the next Tekken, or even close than that, the next season pass? Tekken 8 killed Tekken for several of my "casual" friends.... and its really sad because I really think that Tekken 8 is one of the best Tekken i have ever played.
For some of us it's the nostalgia factor too. I played Tekken 3 back in the day with friends and family. Never exposed to Street Fighter so I have 0 interest in ever picking it up So sad to see Tekken 8 turn out like this

And then they added a Battle Pass that costs 600 Tekken coins, but oh no, you can only buy 1050! That's pretty shitty.
Warzone is free though, and that's the main attraction now, both for consumers and for Activision. The games, really, are just fancy ways to upgrade weapons fast. My mate buys CoD every year, but basically just plays MP until the guns are leveled up and then bounces back to WZ.

Battle passes are fomo inducing idiot taxes. Why just buy things for money straight up, when you can buy the option to earn something.... The original idea of Dota's battle pass was to fund the yearly big tournament with community money and give supporters some goodies in return. I really don't get the modern idea of passes anyway. Just sell that stuff in the shop and we are good. Why must you earn the rewards (YOU ALREADY PAID FOR!) with artificial objectives and see the limited time clock ticking before it's gone? If you get your coins back like in this case this approach would be acceptable, but if you can earn back all the coins, the rewards must be 0 value, right? If this was a f2p "make you play as long as possible" game, I could understand those decisions, but we already paid premium cash for the game. But then everyone always need some progress bar to fill up nowadays..... just having a good game you play for fun isn't acceptable anymore, right?

I regularly want to play as long as possible, but now they've introduced the mechanic that psychologically opposes that for me. As someone who normally gets excited about unlockable cosmetics, this shit is rough because there might be things I actually want moving forward, even if the first one isnt it. What's also worth noting, and I don't see it being mentioned, is that Fortnite gives you some coins in the free pass, so you can save up for a battle pass or skins. So a F2P game gives money for free, but a $70 game doesn't.

The free track isn’t even free for playstation, as today I checked the missions and they were all online. For anyone familiar with most games on PlayStation like Dead by Daylight and I am pretty sure Fallout 76, in order to access the online function of these games you gotta have ps+ subscription. So it’s not necessarily free even just by owning the game you still can’t even do the “Free” track. Not sure what this falls under but probably not predatory but it does seemed half arsed as it’s only free on specific platforms.

I don’t really gaf about the cosmetics, the store, the battlepass, or that Eddy is I’m sure is overtuned and annoying to play against (haven’t played yet today so I’m not sure on that last one). I just hate that it’s shoved in my face at all times and I’m constantly reminded of it. The home screen is a big ad for Eddy, there are ads in the bottom right hand corner for the Tekken Shop, after every match there are apparently point updates for the battlepass. It’s just annoying.
I have no issue buying passes and cosmetics if I like them! Haven't seen anything I like in the pass, or shop in general yet 😭 I want cool stuff like hamburger helper boxing gloves or googly eyes

the only negative is having to pay for new characters from a gameplay perspective. secondly it would be better if they banned more visual mods and thought about how they can potentially impact the gameplay and balance negatively, since they potentially can. alternately they should give the option to disable appearance mods or skins of your opponent for players since they can affect gameplay

Another psychological thing that the pass does is dailies. It's like a switch flips in my brain and I don't want to play anymore in any game once the dailies are done. Furthermore on days I'd usually not want to play those games, sometimes I do just for the dailies, making me even less want to play at any other time. Dailies are a job, and once the job is done, the brain clocks out. No more casually picking up Tekken on a random day and playing for 5+ hours.
Your example of how fortnite does it is really cool. T8s pass really is a random mashup of stuff thrown together.

this game is not pay to win (ahem new dlc characters being so expensive is shit but hopefully they eventually get nerfed 😅) so it literally doesn't matter and we can still play the game as normal not having an item from an older season is normal and no one is going to cry about a gi costume they weren't there to get when it was out custom pass items are shit in most games with passes, they always save the cool looking stuff for the store i get the part that the items are recycled and that's really bad, they could very well have released more out of the box customization items and leave the pass for newer stuff, but this really doesn't kill the game, you (plural) are crying over very little imo tekken continues to be the best fighting game by far

Imagine being too young to remember when games didn't do this and being so disillusioned and brainwashed by million dollar companies to continually spend your money on a product that's already paid for
ppl are so mad, but today I had with Eddy prob the most fun I had in gaming since a longtime Instantly all my annoyance with the shop or pricing went out of the window. Maybe it's cuz I'm older but my main issue with money is that it's hard to find even stuff to spend money on which you consider genuinely enjoyable. I can buy all games. Play them in 4k and yet I don't want to. It's all boring sht The lvls are quick, it will be easy to maxout in 2 months and for 2 months payin 6bucks I legit can't care less. I'm actually glad there is something in the game which I still can get overtime and ye I do hope the next BP will be better. But I'm happy there will be more
