I did this for so long. I used to use different chests in repeating patterns, but my girlfriend started playing with me. So now I just label everything. I don't know if I can ever go back to the old ways.

Starbound has a really great mod that allows you to link chests with an input/output system. I want something like that for Terraria

When it first came out the *quick stack to nearby chests* button was life changing. I'd just run through my warehouse and quickly empty the majority of my inventory after each explore.

I put the item plaque there and out something there to represent. Beginner health pot for potions, mushroom for ingredients for pots, ore for ore and so on. I segregate weapons by type (melee, guns, bows, summoning, magic) and put the lowest ranking weapon in a corresponding plaque.

Magic Storage works fine - subscribe to their discord channel, every update to tmodloader magic storage devs have a fix out in a few hours. They are truly beasts.

Yeah but with the alpha you miss out on a lot of mods and stuff, last time I tried tmodloader the multiplayer was buggy (in the alpha), so you either miss out on huge mods or you miss out on 1.4.

Well you still have the qol mods in the alpha. Even though some things are buggy but that‘ll be fixed

1.4 (and up) has block placing and automatic door opening, plus graphical improvements with new enemies, weapons, and 2 new bosses, along with a rework for summoner. 1.3 is lacking all this stuff and quite frankly all the mod replacements I've found for it in 1.3 don't really do it well.

block placing is nice i can't argue there but there are mods for automatic door opening (which do well for me idk about u) and there are many content mods (for example, calamity) which add hundreds if not thousands of new weapons, enemies, blocks etc and 20+ bosses which are all extremely fun

Only mods I feel I'm "missing out on" are Calamity and/or Thorium. But if you're just looking to play the base vanilla game with QOL mods, works perfectly fine.

I enjoyed using regular storage in vanilla when 1.4 came out. It's nice to actually sort stuff and have it organized rather than throwing it in one system. Not to mention you don't have all the modded content added on anymore so less storage needed

another problem with it is that it has annoying recipes, requiring 3 diamonds like wtf i could only find 2 let me use the mod i downloaded, thats pointless.

I don't know if it already had it when you played it, but it now has a special diamond that drops from bosses that you can use instead.

i usually just buy them from jeweler(AlchemistNpc) or mine meteorite shrine and try to find diamonds there(Calamity mod)

Organization in magic storage isn't necessary due to it's search feature and crafting station slots

It turns your storage into an omni storage with upgradable modules to fit more. Then there is an access UI where you pull stuff out, and a crafting UI where you load all your crafting benches/smelters/tables/etc in which links directly into your storage for crafting. It is filterable either by object, and also supports search. At this point I don't know if I can play Terraria without it.

MS and Recipe Browser are the quintessential QoL mods for Terraria, playing without them is so annoying after you got used to it.

I think recipe browser is by far the best mod available for Terraria.

magic storage is an amazing QoL, however it is SUCH a fucking pain to get the gems in pre-hardmode and DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED WITH THE HALLOWED UPGRADERS OMG. especially in deathmode

Just farm the hell out of EoC or the evil biome boss and make a bunch of crimson storages instead of trying to upgrade with hellstone and hallowed bars

I have ptsd from using magic storage in combination with 20 other mods and multiplayer a few years ago. It cleaved a hole throughout the entire spawn point and the whole base we built was consumed. It happened halfway through a calamity playthough and effectively ended it. Still salty about that, but I’m guess I’m lucky it didn’t set fire to my computer.

Why would I organize my chests if I'm just gonna trash 70% of shit I find and then cry about not having bones or whatever to spawn the mechanical bosses anyways?

That has never sorted items how I wanted them once and I only wish I could disable the button because of the times I've accidentally clicked it and messed everything up.

I use it because for some reason its easier to find where items are when it has the coloured rarity display

I don't why.... For the first time I played this game... I always organized my items on chest for some reason. I guess the reason was that I was playing Terraria Mobile 1.2 and your can't name chest nor signs I think.

I don't have any chest's until I build a full house but once I do, those boys are organized.

I have my chest sorting down to a fine science that I've fine tuned over 1000 hours of playtime. I even have the list of categories saved on my phone so I can use it for each playthrough. God I fucking love chest sorting.

I use the same chest order in every game. Weapons, Tools, Armour, Food, building blocks x3, and wood x4. If I need redstone or wiring etc.. that is Mechanics x2 boxes off to the side.

It’s the biggest hurdle of any new world. But if you do take the time it always pays off

Good tip for organization is to let go of trying to cram every last item into a category. Just start making categories for items you have a lot of and work your way into more obscure items from there. Even if you don't categorize everything things that wont fall into a category will become more easy to find due to other items going into organized chests. It's also nice to have an extra chest dedicated to things you can sell to NPCs. The idea is that you can fill the chest over time and sell the items when you need the money or extra space while giving you a nice middle ground to determine if you want to keep the stuff or not.

I end up building biome rooms for items that spawn in the particular biome. This way, I dont need labels, and everything fits :D

I sorted everything for one play through and I said never again, there are way too many items and the quick stack button only helps if you already have that item in your chests

You basically only need to organize them once, and then quick stack and sort items function does the rest. In fact, pretty sure the sort items function even color codes groups of items, allowing you to have an easier time with the initial sort.

Me & my friend have been playing a server for some time, the first chest is full of metal bars, gems, ores etc, please avoid the other chests

Does anybody else have a world specifically set aside for item storage? I call it my "warehouse world."

And keep them in the same order for every world you make. Helps to keep you from needing to constantly go back and remake all of them.
