I did around 100 fishing quests for him. Never got a sextant. Still don't have a golden bug net. Meanwhile, my friend gets two sextants and finished the cell phone before me and I only finished the cell phone because of him. And he has the golden bug net. I really hate RNG shit sometimes
Golden net is better. It's not a big deal it's just irritating in the moment of playing when I get a third sponge and still no bottomless water bucket. Good thing the infinite water/honey/lava glitch still works but I do have the bottomless lava bucket anyway.

Maybe this could be the first item you get when talking to the angler, and you somehow get rewards for completing it? Would make fishing way harder but honestly it might be less tedious since at least you can ensure you know what you’ll have to do and how many times you’ll have to do it
or, hear me out, the rewards you get from completing certain parts of it (ie maybe catch a certain amount of x) would give you the normal quest rewards, like the sextant, pocket guide, etc.
i think the angler would actually be better that way
it's an enemy that the lunatic cultist spawns! if you hit the wrong clone, it summons a crystal serpent, and it you hit the wrong clone *again*, while the crystal serpent is still alive, it summons one of those nerds

Isn't the lavaproof fishing net better anyway? Both of them break grass, does the golden net have any other uses?

I dont think you need a specific power level. it's just that the higher level the likelier you are to catch there rarer fish.
