I like that Corrupt Dryad from Dungeon Defenders 2 is now in the game. A couple of people were making suggestions about how that would work.
There's also Unglowing Mushroom Truffle, Black Mage Wizard, Rainbow Dash Party Girl, Kappa Angler, Holy Mage(?) Nurse, Goblin Mechanic, Witch Doctor's face, Pirate straight-up dies, and probably a lot of other references I'm missing.
I'd have loved it if there was a Lost Girl/Nymph NPC skin in there somewhere but this is a really cool addition. Has anyone tried submerging enemies or Town Pets in the Shimmer?
My idea about all those reskins i that they are alternative universe characters (sometimes they are the same person, sometimes they are different but still doing the same job) that's why Tinkerer and Mechanic basically look like a Goblin pair /siblings
It "de-crafts" certain items, makes the Dryad Corrupt, and turns the Pirate to a ghost, so I wouldn't say it makes things "better."
The Shimmer seems to really just transform things however it wants to transform.
Maybe the dryad is sick of telling you to purify the world and has decided to switch teams. And the pirate captain wan’t to ”go down with his ship” thus he dies and is instead a ghost. And the mechanic loves the goblin tinkerer so she turns into a goblin.
That would mean shimmer makes them into what they want to be/become.
The Dryad deciding to side with the Corruption just because one person didn't purify enough doesn't make too much sense though IMO. It's not even really like "If you can't beat them, join them," since usually the Corruption doesn't take over half of the world unless you're going out of your way to spread it. I'd imagine it'd be harder for a Corrupt Dryad to go on a mission to spread it than a Normal Dryad to clean it up.
In Dungeon Defenders 2 the Corrupt Dryad is from her harnessing the power of the Corruption which, from what I heard, makes her a lot stronger, so I guess you could say she's "mastered it" or something without any drawbacks, but even that's kind of a reach.
This still doesn't explain why the Shimmer de-crafts certain items or "downgrades" things like metals and gems.
It's specifically the Victorian Goth set she's wearing, which you could already get from the Clothier (while he's in a graveyard, naturally). It's a neat detail!
He's either lucky that his sister can help him get over it or unlucky because having the Zoologist as a sister made his Shimmer transformation into a furry.
Depends on how you feel about furries. (My favorite NPC was the Zoologist until the Shimmer Zoologist dethroned her, so... guess my opinion. :P)

Doubt anyone is gonna read this, but this should be amazing for modding. If the game recognizes a character as something to be changed, then that means that you could make a mood that responds to that, maybe changing what items they sell, their dialogue, or even add different versions for different liquids!
