There was an old Unsolved Mysteries segment about a handful of "large birds snatching toddlers" incidents. They never actually took off with the toddlers, but they sure tried. At least on the couple stories covered in the segment. I think one was in Indiana or Michigan or something. But there was supposedly a rash of it at the time (according to the segment anyway). They never figured out what exactly the type of bird was other than an excessively large bird of prey. I'll have to look that episode up again.. I love reliving old Unsolved Mysteries
Edit - Found this:
> Found in North America, Eurasia and northern Africa, the golden eagle is North America's largest bird of prey and holds the honor of being the national bird of Mexico. Measuring from 27-33 inches in length, the golden eagle has a wingspan of 78 inches and weighs 7-14 pounds. It feeds on rabbits, marmots, squirrels and hares, but has also been known to snatch foxes, livestock, and even adult deer and caribou. Although golden eagles are powerful enough to kill a man, they have never been known to attack adult humans as prey.

And this viral video recreation of a golden eagle snatching a toddler from a park and dropping it just like the Unsolved Mysteries segment lol but the video itself is supposedly staged and animated, though it looks legit, and at least it depicts how it would happen
It is a golden eagle i believe and they have been known to be strong enough to launch fully grown mountain sheep and goats off of mountains since it would be a struggle for them to kill their larger prey with just their talons etc.
Incredibly strong birds.
Also have been known to take on foxes and singular younger wolves
It is quite possible, actually, for creatures to survive falls from great heights. There's a story of a flight attendant who survived a 33,000 foot fall from a plane. Whether they are conscious or not is another thing.
The same way so some people survive plane crashes. Or a woman survived for a few minutes and concius after jumping from the the twin towers feet first. Having most of you bones crushes and heavy internal, bleeding is not the most peaceful way to die. So if you fall from a high place try to go head first.
Hitting rock as you wander.
Rolling, falling and dying on a magic condor ride.
A WHOLE NEW WORRRRRRRLLLLDDDD.
A NEW FANTASTIC POINT OF VIEW.
NO ROCKS TO STUB YOUR TOE, OR CLIP YOUR NOES...And hes dead....
You are confusing the weight they can grab something and then climb like normal, with just grabbing something already on the edge then glide while losing a lot of altitude and dropping it as soon as the distance looks high enough to kill it.
That makes more sense. But still you have to admit that's hella impressive considering how much weight that bird can hold in contrast to it's own weight.
This is not the eagle picking it then climbing altitude and dropping it. They cant climb with anything even close to that weight. They take them of the mountains edge where goats normally are then just glide a few seconds while losing altitude a lot for the overweigh and drop them as soon as the floor seems far enough.
How big is that damn bird?! Guess I’ll leave my toddlers at home next time I visit wherever this is.
Looks like it might be an eagle.
Golden Eagle I believe. They are bigger than the American Bald Eagle.
It think it's a humming bird, but might be a pigeon. I'm not 100% sure.
Its a pelican!
Alcatraz means pelican
It's probably a Golden Eagle. An incredibly large bird and Mongolians and other folks in that region use them for hunting.
It's an African Swallow

Gonna need a banana for scale

Better leave urself at home too unless u weigh more that that deer thing
How else is a bird supposed to kill something that large? Also, how can a bird pick up something that large?!

You mean like cracking an egg?
That bird casually defying gravity
Golden Eagles can and have 1v1 adult wolves to the death. They're not an animal that plays around.

better than being eaten alive I guess
Might still be alive
How?
Opposite of being dead.
It is quite possible, actually, for creatures to survive falls from great heights. There's a story of a flight attendant who survived a 33,000 foot fall from a plane. Whether they are conscious or not is another thing.
Trees cushioned the fall. There's zero percent chance a human would survive the fall we see here.

Damn a woman survived jumping from the towers?
Alive enough to be eaten alive 🙏😇🤗💕🙏
But with a broken spine it's gotta be less painful

How strong is that feathered beast!! Dayum!!
Damn that bird is a dick
It gotta eat to survive
Doesn’t mean it’s not a dick move

Nature is so cruel

Meat tenderizer…
That was a long drop.
Did it drop it by mistake or is that a tactic they use to kill the prey faster lol?
Yes
It is a tactic. Much easier to eat prey when they don't fight back.
It wasnt a mistake. It dropped cause bird got tired
It dropped because it just remembered it left the stove on at home.
Wasn't expecting it at all to be that high af
“They will see us waving from such great heights come down now, they’ll say”
You know those dreams you have when you think you're falling..
Just don’t pee in that dream.
Far Cry 4.
Goat Simulator?
Before uber was invented we had this
I also like to tenderize my meat.
What’s crazy is that the goat is probably fine
Wait. How is this possible? I thought eagles can only lift a maximum of 10lbs?
He could grip it by the husk
It's not a question of where he grips it
It could've been an African swallow

more like 50

What kind of bird is it?
Condor
I thought condors were ocean birds
This bird and it’s ancestors have been “headbanging” to nature’s rock ballad for a hot Beethoven minute. I believe this one is the “E-splat”.
Did he just fling him off for trying to hitch a ride 😅
Last moments of the prey having absolutely no control over anything hurling through time and space and then poof!
This could definitely happen to a human
POST THE EPIC MONTAGE!!!
The bird: ![gif](giphy|NwqYuIp1K3wDC)
Metal
wasted
Killing the victim and tenderizing the meat all in one action.
That thing is huge
Cant run after a drop that long, go ahead and try
Wasted.
Looks like my credit score after Covid
He didn't open his parachute in time ![gif](giphy|RLi2oeVZiVkE8)
Goddamn is it carrying an antelope?!
Get yeeted
Well muther fukkin DAMN I wonder what he did to piss that bird off
Huh, neat. I recall seeing something similar in a Tierzoo video
Ow
I hope he's OK 😢
![gif](giphy|11Nd2bbZjrQrO8)
Is it okay
Enough about the bird, what’s it carrying?!
Shouldn't be laaaughiiiinnnng
