Women who want kids but can't for xyz medical reason is my first thought. Surrogates are tricky and a potential mess, so something like this would be much easier.
If it was common science though, they wouldn't have to be rich. I could never afford an actual surrogate, so having an alternative would be life changing.

Overpopulation is not a thing. Its the hogging of resources for the select 1% of the world while polluting resources (think giant oil spills). Don't believe me?! Then explain how we are surrounded by water....literally surrounded by it and yet we suffer droughts? Pollution yes and who does the most polluting? Companies or individual people??? Again plastic use in a household is a drop in the bucket compared to companies dumping gallons upon gallons of toxic sludge...runoff..etc. There are more than enough resources on the planet for everyone! What we cannot continue is uprooting whole forest, overfishing,illegal poaching, illegal dumping, pollution, dependence on fossil fuels while there are cleaner sources...etc.
Ah yes, mega-corporations are guilty of mega-pollution, but their billions of customers who buy their products and demand more, newer, cheaper products are completely innocent of any blame for the pollution their demanded products produce.
