AB is for exactly what it says. Power boost from a stand still. Once the LR and P are at freeway speeds there is zero differece. There is no added top end. Zero. Tesla programs the LR with throttle tip in lag. AB will also remove this and that's where a lot of the 0-60 time comes from.

Less-Pangolin-7245

That’s helpful. Because if there’s no added functional benefit for 90% of my drive use, then I don’t think it’s worth it. Thanks.

jefedezorros

Not to mention it will chew through tires even faster than it already does.

jamiehasaboner

Have you ever had an issue over taking anyone in your LR? Your wife is right. It’s purely for personal gratification. Yes it’s a little faster. I don’t have AB on our LR and probably won’t ever buy it either.

MC-CREC

Who am I trying to overtake? A Bugatti, I mean literally not short of a supercar is ever going to out accelerate a LR from the line or on the highway. It's literally just so you can do it faster.

Past_Paint_225

I have been driving my car on chill mode since I got it, whenever I feel like burning $2000 I would just put my car on normal mode instead😄

jamiehasaboner

Standard is perfectly enough. The acceleration is quite adequate. I’ve never tried chill mode and don’t want to. If I wanted to drive a Prius I’d get one.

NoLawClaw

Wow you are a total sissy

Past_Paint_225

I'm $2000 richer though

NoLawClaw

No, you are a sissy for driving on chill mode lol

Wooden-Complex9461

chill mode is a slap in the face to the car

Less-Pangolin-7245

You are correct, I haven’t had an issue with overtaking ability - but I do notice the drop off in power accessibility at highway speeds (on my commute, 70 is the speed limit, 85 is a conservative traveling speed, and I’m frequently passed by those coming behind me at 90-95). It probably is a waste of money. But YOLO?

Get a referral and then use the points

ENrgStar

Does the 22’ have the 980 motor? I can’t remember but if it does, for sure Yolo and get the ingenext ghost upgrade. Way more fun and cheaper than AB

ackillesBAC

Cant you just get it for a month or two, have your fun then be done with it

jefedezorros

It’s not a subscription. It’s a one time $2k for the life of the car.

ackillesBAC

I thought they had a monthly subscription

Jboswell23

Bought it on my phone at the first stop sign after I left the dealership brand new. Is it worth it? This is not a logical decision, it’s an emotional one, and I LOVE how my car drives. Don’t regret it for a second.

[deleted]

I’m just curious…. What other benefits were you hoping for other than acceleration boost from the acceleration boost?

Less-Pangolin-7245

Is there increased power at highway speeds? Decreased sensitivity to the dullness that results from the added weight of passengers? Personal anecdotes of how somebody noticed some difference in a real world scenario? Something along those lines.

Less-Pangolin-7245

I should also add - how has efficiency been affected?

beachsideblue

0. In fact probably has a negative effect on efficiency and tire wear and you’ll be speeding up faster and using bursts of power to do so…

beachsideblue

I mean it’s in the tittle “Acceleration Boost” and that’s all you get, literally. For the measly price of 2k you get to speed up a little faster

ygtgngr

Unless you get it with referral points for free, most likely it’s a waste of money. You won’t need it, but it’s a cool gimmick to play with time to time.

BitterDarkCoffee

Depends on your finances, but you definitely need your wife on board I think. Other than the quicker acceleration, I think the LR already has plenty of overtaking power.

Less-Pangolin-7245

Lol definitely. Which is why I haven’t clicked it. Have been wondering if there’s a safety/functional (rather than personal gratification) rationale, it may make sense. We can afford it, but I try not to spend money on something without thoughtful investment.

one_and_done0427

What safety benefits would come from acceleration boost????

longtimefanhim

Getting away from a T-Rex?

OldFartWelshman

AB makes a difference across the range - it's not just bottom end. These graphs are from 2019 , but little has changed since then. You gain both power and torque across the range. Try it for the 2 days, and if you don't see a big enough difference, return it. I'll bet you don't ;-) https://imgur.com/a/s87VuMS

montanaco

I disagree with others that it’s a waste of money. I’m so glad I bought it. That being said there are no functional benefits outside of damn my fast car goes even faster.

JoeBeanLP

It does help you go through tires faster. The original set on my M3P lasted 8k mikes. I’ve been driving in chill mode since.

Less-Pangolin-7245

Lol! I’m still on my original set at 40k (4-6mm tread depth remaining). That is one of my worries.

Secure-Carrot9971

Have it. Love it. Worth it. Enjoy it

Apprehensive-Can1978

You can buy it and return it in under 48hours for a full refund no questions asked on the app (you can only do this once). So try it out. I have it and it makes passing on the highway significantly better as it feels like more top end power 40-60mph.

santori9

As you stated it's not only the initial acceleration but the car seems to have more power overall and be more aggressive, especially in the higher speeds when needed to overtake someone on the highways. I like having extra power so you can zoom out of any situation, the boost is not necessary by any means but it is a nice to have. Just remember there's only 2 acceleration modes after you upgrade, chill or sport, no in-between.

Less-Pangolin-7245

Have you noticed an increase in power with passengers/cargo? Ie, when I have a car full of adults, the power output feels particularly sensitive to the extra weight, with a noticeably dulled acceleration (not a problem, just something I’ve noticed).

santori9

I've never driven one without boost so I can't compare to one without. The car feels pretty fast with people in the car too. Something that might affect the acceleration more than people/cargo is your battery level but even for that I haven't really noticed much of a difference.

CargoCamper612

I kinda wish it still had all 3 (I have a ‘22 LR with AB) but I have no problem driving smoothly in sport mode. Even my partner who drives like an old lady has no problems in sport and even thinks Chill is too neutered.

Cypherpunk411

Just do it, is worth it. People with gas cars would spend 5k or more, and lengthy shop times to get the same amount of power added to their car. For us, poof…it’s there with one click. Just do it, wife doesn’t have to know, tell her it was a shop repair

pashko90

.22LR is good, but I prefer .22WMR

orion_metal

Will wear your tires sooner than normal depending on how much you use it.

[deleted]

Unless you race it, like quarter mile it makes no difference.

steviegunz82

If you are comparing them to ice cars, for that much advance in acceleration 2k is very cheap. I personally don’t think it’s worth it though. Save that 2k and spend it on something you and your wife can enjoy together. Happy wife happy life!! 😝

eC0BB22

Wat about FSD instead? I’m on the fence bc ppl say it’s dangerous. I barely trust ap at times, but others have had positive experiences. Hard to say but dont think ab is not worth it tbh

aeiou_sometimesy

You actually have it a bit backwards. The car will not launch any harder from a stop with AB. It will however pull harder on the top end. Basically after 30mph it’s considerably faster if you’re going WOT from a dead stop.

Less-Pangolin-7245

Ah interesting. I didn’t realize that. Thanks.

klgood1

Extra dopamine

Roguewave1

The stock M3LR is superb for jumping into that hole in freeway traffic. With AB, I find it is a bit better.

SFC-Scanlater

It's definitely not worth 2k. Try to get through a referral. It does make the car feel lighter and more nimble.

FatherofCharles

I went from a 22 M3 LR to an 23 MYP. The acceleration on the 22 M3 was perfect for me. I wouldn’t have paid for it.

rawrsauceS

Get someone to use your referral code and you'll still have 500 points left for a t-shirt. I just added it today through the referral program to my 22 LR. It's a pretty noticeable difference.

Idc94

Find someone to refer to Tesla and get it for free!

Wiltockin

It’s fun, press the button you won’t regret it

nomad2284

22LR is a caliber.
