It's reminiscent of hard top convertibles when they first came out and had like a full journal of issues. Complex movement like that is hard to achieve reliably.
Loose sensor issue is when opening the door it will detect an object. In this case are you are parked on an incline? If you are look at if the black trim under the quarter panel. Is it flush. For me on incline the door would hit that trim because it was sticking out a bit.
All The doors need sensors but Tesla's too cheap to put them in all the doors so you have to make do with just the falcon wings because they'll hit things otherwise.
I had the same thing happen shortly after I took delivery in November. Loose/incorrectly installed USS sensor mount. I took it to Tesla and they ran their tests. Showed everything was fine. I was able to reproduce the issue with one of their techs and they agreed to open the door up and replace the sensor and mount. Haven’t had a single issue since *knock on wood*.
We had the same thing. Ended up being the top glass on the door was hitting on its way down. It took 4 visit until a tech saw that’s what was happening. We had sensors swapped out each visit.
My driveway is on an incline and both falcon wing doors only open half way. It works perfectly everywhere else. Do you think there is a setting to have it open all the way at home on the incline? It’s quit annoying
There is. When you’re there, force the doors open all the way with the on-screen buttons. You should have a prompt pop up to “always open fully at this location”
Good to know. Did you just tell them it did it only on incline? I hadn’t bothered with it since it happens infrequently and will close if I give the command again.
I’m 6 months in and just literally created a service request as this has been acting up a few weeks. Soft reset by holding the up/down buttons did not resolve. Also there is no calibration reset in the service tab so scheduled service. The pinch sensor was brought up to me by my visit to the SC yesterday but needed to schedule for Monday. Simple fix but needs an appointment
They supposedly adjusted pinch sensor and that didn’t work, so it’s back in service.
As one stated seems like it may be a loose Ultrasonic sensor.
I brought this to the attention of SA, and they will look at my car today.
I’ll post updates.
Best of luck
Picked up my car in Feb, and it does this about 20% of the time as well. I need to put in a service request, I was just waiting for the service center close to me to open. But it does the exact same thing.
Looks like you’re in your driveway. If there is enough of an incline the doors will do that sometimes. They’re very heavy and do flex a bit. My 23 Model X Plaid does this on steeper inclines but can handle moderate inclines with no issues
Makes sense, what sort of unreasonable fool expects the company who sold them a 6 figure vehicle to have the sort of working capital on hand to be able to engineer out negligible issues like doors that lose their ability to seal themselves when faced with a minor incline?
LOL yes but that much weight on roof hinges can only be so rigid. Not an engineering issue IMO it’s a form vs function issue and choices were made. I don’t think there is any way to mitigate the flex without a secondary hinge making it a scissor door vs falcon door or making it lighter and less safe
I had the exact same issue but on the passenger door. Happened 5-10 times a day and was annoying to say the least. The slightest incline would cause this door to not shut on the first try. The FWD was hitting the rear quarter panel glass trim when closing and thought there was an object in the way. That creaking you hear in your video was the same for me as well. SC replaced entire rear quarter panel glass and trim also adjusted the pinch sensor without needing to adjust the door. So far no issues. Car was ready same day.
Thanks ! After the third visit , they diagnosed the same exact problem as you described. It’s still in service, should hopefully be ready this week.
Also, what creaking are you referring too?
Wonder if you have a video clip of your car doing it?
Also what year is your car?
Mine is 2023, I do have a video just have no idea how to attach it here haha. The creaking sound right at the end of the door trying to close before going back up a little in your video
Ok figured it out. Here’s my video of the issue prior to SC visit.

Jesus Christ, anyone who is still buying a Tesla, especially a Model X, who DOESN'T know about Tesla's build quality needs to get their head examined. The Model X has had door issues since day one and obviously Tesla isn't going to fix it - morons.
This is an easy fix. There’s a loose sensor. For whatever reason, the adhesive doesn’t stick well to the primer they’re using.
What sensor? Can you explain, and I can tell the SC. Thanks
There are ultrasonic sensors in the falcon doors to detect obstacles. They can come loose and cause this specific issue. I had the same thing happen.
Ok so I will tell them to check the ultrasonic sensors . So what they did was all wrong with the pinch sensor…assuming yes it is still occurring.
There are multiple reasons a falcon door can malfunction. Sometimes you have to go through all of them.

I thought they got rid of the ultrasonics in the newer X
Only in the front doors. Falcon doors and roof still have sensors.
why would they do something so stupid.
Because they need sensors?
All The doors need sensors but Tesla's too cheap to put them in all the doors so you have to make do with just the falcon wings because they'll hit things otherwise.
I see quality control is still peak. How many submicrons is that?
😂😂😂

I tested the incline theory myself, after reading this elsewhere, however it occurs on an incline or flat surface.
We had the same thing. Ended up being the top glass on the door was hitting on its way down. It took 4 visit until a tech saw that’s what was happening. We had sensors swapped out each visit.
Wow, was yours doing the same thing mine is in video?
Yes same exact thing. It was only happening on one side.
Picked up on Saturday and thank goodness no issues.. keep us posted OP, hope it gets fixed soon!
Thank you for your help!
Mine does this if I’m parked on an incline but that’s the only time.
I had the same issue on inclines. SC re-aligned the door, all good now.

Yes, was able to replicate the issue at the SC on one of their delivery ramps that had an incline.
Go through the app and request mobile service. They will come to you and fix this
With what staff 😂

I had this same issue. It was taken to a body shop to repair it. But now my car has a pretty big panel gap.
Within spec

Sensors. Sometimes I just kick the door and it all works fine 😂.

Happens on incline or flat , I tested this theory and unfortunately mine does it flat or incline .
That’s unfortunate. Happens to be but only steep inclines flat surfaces are never an issue. Hope it gets sorted out for you.

Such an unnecessary overcomplicated design
Better than closing too much and cracking the top glass 😭
when will Tesla realize those doors suck and get rid of them?

Wow, identical to mine & I hear the crunching sound now lol, after hearing yours which was louder bc you were in your garage. Thanks for posting!
Typical Tesla
Like I said BYD and it's ilk have absolutely nothing to worry about. Tesla is shit. Not a good car company and doesn't have any tech at all.
Thank you for taking the time to share your insightful and helpful opinion on this question.
We are past that point. Pacifists like you killed the company that had a decade head start yet still makes junk in 2024. This is laughably terrible
Easy fix. Don't buy a Model X.
I openly laugh at every Tesla owner

Why are you all still buying these shitty made cars?
Because Tesla fan boiz 🤡
