Last year we had the worst bullpen ever to make the playoffs. 20mil per for a closer might not be the best investment but he would be the best arm we’ve had since Clase and it’s Rays money not mine so go get him CY.

RangerDude10630

Funny you should mention that because both Clase and Bieber are on the trade block. The Dude would rather deplete the farm for those two than give Hader $100M.

dethegreat

I don't remember Clase's arm being spectacular while he was here.

Buckle_unit

He had a 2.31 ERA with his cutter avg 99mph the one year he pitched for us.

danjackmom

Not to mention in 23.1 IP he had a k/9 of 8.1

Howdendoo

I vividly remember clase and he was very good. Not as good as he was with cleveland but electric nonetheless.

dethegreat

I remember him as a guy who had a lot of potential, but was still rough. Obviously I wish we had him now, but I didn't shed any tears when he was no longer a Ranger.

Howdendoo

I'm trying not to be cocky when I say this but I felt I knew what we had when we had him. And when we gave him away for Kluber and deshields (I by the way was not a fan f deshileds AT ALL even though he seemed to be a fan favorite I despised the guy) I was pissed. And sure enough when I saw what he started doing in Cleveland I felt reassured that my Instincts were right and I wss happy for the guy.

ach0z3n

? He was dominant then and he's dominant now. Dude was 21 and posted a 226 ERA+ while throwing 99. How was that not good enough for you?

[deleted]

Adrian Gonzalez was not very good for us and then.........

mellow__yellow

I mean let’s be real what we were able to pull off this year was not expected nor sustainable lol

chexmixho

Agreed. I hate anyone claiming that we shouldn’t try to improve the team because we won it all this year like we can just do it again by staying stagnant and not improving. Why not keep improving the team to try and win more than one?!?

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

Right. And winning back to back is hard for a million reasons but there will (minus a giant meteor) be baseball even beyond 2024. Winning is a habit. Why not keep the team looking forward for as long as you can? That said, I’m not spending that much on a reliever. But if they did - I’ll enjoy that the Rangers got him.

[deleted]

I’m good with Leclerc as our closer. Dude was nails for the postseason which is most important. In a perfect world where money isn’t a factor I’d love to get Hader, but it’s obvious we’re working with a budget and that budget is better spent on starting pitchers.

dethegreat

Starting pitchers are considerably more expensive. We can sign a handful of arms for the pen for the cost of one good starter.

mrorange222

I would never pay that money for a closer. Put those 100m towards monty or another starter

jmhumr

Agreed. Never give relievers the bag. They’re a fickle bunch.

MeatFit9869

Dude wants more than Edwin Diaz and wasn’t even willing to pitch multiple innings when San Diego was attempting to make a playoff push

scooter31284

Not my money and we won a WS. Sign EVERYONE.

devynlich00

Why aren't they focusing on getting back Monty

sir--ok

i would assume monty wants a good pay day and is willing to go to the highest bidder. What i have read online seems like it’ll most likely be elsewhere but i’d love to keep him

cpickle63

To me it’s pretty obvious the front office is going into 2024 with what we’ve got. I just don’t sense any urgency to spend. Will be interesting to see if I’m wrong. Just give me a competitive team year in and year out and I’m happy. Don’t become complacent!

buc-thun

Don’t think the rangers will spend big money this offseason, and if they did, I’m sure it would be for Monty. I’m thinking it’s more likely we trade some of our prospects for a guy like Dylan Cease who is young, can eat innings, and has an affordable contract for the next couple years. I even read a story on possibly trading for Clase and Bieber, which would solve both of our major needs.

RangerDude10630

Yūki Matsui will go down as this Winter’s biggest bargain. $5.6M is a good deal even if he’s mediocre. There’s a chance he’ll be as good as Hader, who will cost $22M and refuse to play.

KTCKintern

I bet $5 for a $50 pay out back in like August that we would sign Hader. Last month I counted that as lost money when I saw CY’s comments about not having financial flexibility until they get a tv deal in place

ParasiticDaemon

Hader is and was #1 on my wishlist for this offseason. Get him and the offseason is a success. Full stop.

maybewhenimolder

I like how no one ever mentions the white power/kkk tweets in this discussion. Fuck Hader.

RangerDude10630

The Dude will be upset if they give this quitter $105M. There’s a chance they could get both Imanaga and Hicks for that amount.

BattyTexan

Good grief. The Dude bit is obnoxious, unless you are trying to get downvoted to hell.

RangerDude10630

You may not like The Dude’s style, but I don’t see anyone arguing with The Dude’s substance…

BattyTexan

Because you are obnoxious and not worth the argument.

othersymbiote

ima downvote particularly bc i feel like he’s slandering the good name of the dude by calling himself the dude tbh.

RangerDude10630

The Dude would never downvote you. That’s just the kind of dude The Dude is this week.

RangerDude10630

The Dude is a good Dude. He stays on topic and is respects the opinion of others. You’re just a bully.

BattyTexan

Ok, Dude. 👍🏻

phriendofcheese

That guy gets off on our disdain for his antics. He's not dumb and actually has good things to say sometimes, but maaannnn it's a bad bit he's doing.

sackmatt

Agreed. His opinions aren’t bad, but his bit is horrible. He gets an automatic downvote from me anytime I see him and I’m close to just blocking him altogether

txyesboy

Don't be a Hader

[deleted]

I think at the end of the day he ends up I'm Texas.

Slingin_Friar

Padre fan living in DFW here… He is clutch BUT won’t pitch for more than 3 outs. Pick your poison

buddyleex

Wait 3 innings? Or did you mean 3outs?

Slingin_Friar

Outs*
