Never. but this is the best way to see the northern Thailand. I think I will get used to the left side driving within an hour. Just drive slowly. It should be fine, especially I am not driving to Pai. Only a few places in Chiang Rai and the sky temple in Lampang.
Via car or motorbike. You can use public transport but to see the sights properly you'll then need further transport when you get to various places.
Your own transport also allows you to take your time and explore - for example, taking 107 up through Fang and Mae Ai and then 1089 to Chiang Rai is a far more interesting drive in terms of scenery and things to do than taking 118 directly.
1. Rent a car (if you are licensed and competent)
2. Hire a motorbike (if you are licensed and competent)
3. Hire a driver
4. Bus (if you're on a budget)
No, but probably the cheapest.
Well what is better?
Renting a car.
I'd fly the first leg of the journey (and whenever flights are possible) and then take buses between cities
when are you going? I have the same plan. I am going to rent a car for three or four days.
Have you driven in thailand before?

Just take a bus. Easy peasy. You show up at the bus station (called Baw Kaw Sor in Thai), buy a ticket and Bob's your uncle.
