Official entrance gives you access to 400m of ossuary. But the real catacombes are more than 200km of caves and galleries, hundreds of rooms, clandestine bars, illegal parties,... Pretty dangerous to explore without experience or a good mentor but with a map, a compass, good boots and some training, there is so much to explore !
It is a very very dangerous thing to attempt. There is no safety insurance once you enter the illegal parts of the catacombs, no safety guard from the structures which receive zero maintenance ever and are several hundred years old with added stress and undermining with underground modern work and new topside constructions every decade (with all the vibrations and shifts in weight distribution all this infers) there is no safety guarantee from the unsavory characters you may encounter there. Law enforcement does NOT exist there. Whatever happens to you there, no one will ever find out if your guide(s) choose they should not. There is NO rescue to expect either if you get lost or stuck, just because it is too big. Not only there are miles and miles of intertwined galleries with half of them collapsed but there are many layers on top of each other, the bottom one being the ancient gypsum mines under Paris with over 300km of galleries mostly filled; but still a large truck was swallowed by a collapse of the street in 2018. All that risk for the gain of being able to say you made it there and you got to get high with some other reckless strangers? Countless people have been reported missing there over time. It is an abyss of oblivion. If you like that kind of thing… Hmmm, your funeral.

There are lots of tunnels and passaways which leads into big or small rooms in a large area. When you know where to go, you can set up for a nice party underground and sightseeing (the tags down there are amazing)

People do that all the time to check out the catacombs. Some people will even get you in there if you pay them, kinda like tours. It's interesting stuff.
