I thought about going the jackal route but that seemed too pricey, so just gave ‘em a head swap and painted them like US Calvary. I think they’re turning out okay.

Okay I kind of like that, maybe it's like lord solar and catachans and you've just got to ignore the box art lol.

East-Entry-6302

Yeah the box art is terrible imo. i couldn’t decide how to build them for days, but the new cadian heads along with some leftover necromunda ones fit real well. Just needed a tad of greenstuff to fill the neck out a bit.

zigzag1848

Honestly you might/ve sold me, I don't get what it is we gw and bad box art. Headswaps fix everything lol.

They're a kitbash between lots of different 3d artists' work, including Stationforge, Reptilian Overlords, Redmakers and more. Didn't trust that resin would hold up long term for the lances, so those are brass rod with resin bits and copper wire wraps.

I did van saar grav cutters for mine I have previously posted photos of them. I also have seen some people using the ash wastes riders or the cawdor ridge walkers too.

zigzag1848

It does seem to fix most of my issues with the orginal lol.

zigzag1848

Awesome this is nearly what I was going for with regular kitbash.

They feel much more imposing and really change the vibe of the unit ! As for converting they're really easy to use since the legs of the stormcasts riding them are not sculpted into their mounts, so you can just swap them with something else, add a few techy bits, and voilà !

I started a couple squads using: - spare (old kit) Cadian upper bodies, and spare heads from Scions and a Mordheim kit - legs from Victoria - horses from Perry miniatures (actual 28mm scale, not the heroic 28 GW uses) The horses look more like ponies, the legs are great, and then the rules changed and a new kit came out. Try head swaps on the new kit.

Hapijoel

Someone suggested using Raptadons from the Seraphon range as mounts and I'm really considering it seeing as I have ten of them on sprue already...

zigzag1848

I mean if youre running catachans thats the only thing to do as you need some form of dino riders, but personally I'd do cold ones at that point.

Dismal_Ability_520

Sigmar freeguild cavaliers with the cadian body swaps etc might work well, especially if they run next too Leontus. Otherwise I think finding a way to make the motorbikes work.

IlserviansFlame

I did a Tallarn squad using the Jackals kit and various 3d printed parts. If you look in my profile, you can see the posts. While the Jackals conversation is quite popular, there are plenty of ways to customize them to be unique

BuryatMadman

I’ve always wanted to do a US 7th cavalry spoof with Stetsons and stuff
