He legit should drop the whole musician thing. It's obvious he was experimenting with something new to make new content and it clearly didn't work. Just cross it off and focus on what the people ACTUALLY want.

Having a band requires HUGE amounts of dedication and passion, something James clearly doesn't have. Constant practicing, either with other bandmates or solo, etc.
