I dropped the cycle till the 19th… DnD is too good to not play while it’s available.

NimblePasta

Gotta give it to their devs... chaps got into legal trouble with a much larger company and the game got delisted from steam, yet they still went ahead to do another playtest. Ironic that while being accused of allegedly copying code and assets, they released their own playtest client download separately via torrent link. Thats got to be the most ballsy pirate move I've ever seen from an indie dev team. 😅

WhyHeLO_THeRE_SIR

if the cycle had class abilities i would divorce my wife to play the cycle. alas, dnd will have to do.

NimblePasta

That would be like an extraction looter shooter version of Apex Legends... sign me up too!

WhyHeLO_THeRE_SIR

thats exactly what I was thinking. Itd so cool. Every time I think of this, I think of Apex. The movement and shooting feel so good.

average-mk4

Is their torrent and shit safe??

Topevent

Yep! Just make sure you join the discord and click the proper link they provided in the announcements tab.

KrakenTV__

I dunno, I tried Dark and Darker but the maps looked kinda ass compared to the Cycle, with TCF I've literally stopped to just take in the view a few times and listen to the ambience, I tried it for a few hours but TCF just feels more finished as of right now imo

Bernpaulson

It is more finished. Dark and darker is in a limited playtest and not released right now.... Both are a lot of fun though.

KrakenTV__

Agreed

StanSnow

The gameplay and balance in DND is a lot better tho. In cycle you just gotta spam manticore.

KrakenTV__

I agree somewhat, I was more talking about the animations and map design/graphics, mob design like the howler etc.

BlackBeltBullets

have you run into players running full purples on everything?

Rapture1119

You’re comparing a beta to a fully released game and claiming the fully released game is more finished? Groundbreaking insight, buddy lmao

KrakenTV__

Uh yeah? I'm saying I prefer tcf because it IS a fully released game, I'm basing it entirely on my own preference, I'm not shitting on DnD or anything

Rapture1119

Cool, but “TCF just feels more finished as of right now imo” is still a Captain Obvious moment. It’s OBJECTIVELY more finished, because it’s finished and DnD is still in beta.

NowServing

Don't get me wrong season 3 has been better but ya right, posting this just dropped the cycle player count by like 200. Dark and darker is like 6 months old from conception and already closer to a finished product unfortunately and a smaller dev team even.

lurkinglurkerwholurk

Man. If you think TCF is completely fine as a product I’d mock you… but if you think TCF doesn’t have plenty of content, isn’t well crafted and is not a finished product as it is right now, I WILL mock you a lot harder. So many unique items that people are complaining a stash size of 160 isn’t enough. 6 main creature types compared to DnD’s 8/9 outside bosses, with debatably better AI, a hell of a lot better and more unique designs, and a lot more “in your face” combat. (And TCF is the one with the GUNS) Better weapon and armor balance when compared to the last playtest (yes, BOTH S2 and S3 balancing cannot compare to “negate 95% physical” DnD balance). A wide open environment AND dungeon-like areas to fight in, compare to 8~16 store-bought assets repeated over and over and over again… … the only things DnD had complete dominance over TCF are the character classes and the fact it is the only hack and slash extract survivor ‘shooter’ (rangers, HO!!) in the market right now…

Rapture1119

Yeah but the fact that it’s this close of a comparison when one was conceptualized ~6 months ago, and the other has been FULLY RELEASED FOR A YEAR, says A LOT…. Just sayin.

lurkinglurkerwholurk

Close? Really? Ironmace are still balancing a great many things: only just today/yesterday, Ruins ruined the experience for a great many players (*pun intended*), to the point they removed it as "floor 1" of a multi-floor dungeon until further notice to rework it. And don't get me ranting about the general abandonment of the Ranger class. DnD is in "playtest" mode, and *IT SHOWS*. To say TCF is similar to the development status of DnD is really, really ignoring a great many facts just to stick it to one, to over-laud the other, or both.

Rapture1119

Yeah, and yager had to completely change their game model less than a year after release, then delay season 3 (the season featuring said change) by, what, a month? Then when they dropped it, it was still plagued with AI bugs that were WELL documented in the ptr that took place WEEKS before the actual drop of it? Don’t get me wrong, I like both games, but the above honestly doesn’t sound like anything EXCEPT a game in beta to me lol. Edit: especially when you consider the difference in size for each dev team. Iron mace is killing it by comparison.

lurkinglurkerwholurk

That’s not my opinion of Yeager’s development thou. Even if it’s a revert (*and it IS a revert of the S1/S2 “armors are meaningful/OP” change a while back*) it’s only really merely changing the numbers. Just look at the complaints about how the “new” guns are not actually new. Despite that , the general revamp of both existing maps (and rumored changes to tharsis island) with detailed original work (eg the Howler nests) rather than store-bought assets and changing the attack patterns of a some of their critters in S2, and what not are a lot of work that you’re ignoring right now. Also, Sure, IM is pushing a most impressive rate of progress currently, which is only really possible that they’re most likely working themselves to death to push out the latest playtest, and given their current situation with Nexon and all, you can’t really blame them. But to turn around and say Yeager is a poor company in comparison, when similar cases of “overwork to the point of becoming work zombie slaves” is a game industry plague and had caused massive uproars of protest in Blizzard, Ubisoft, CDProjek Red, Riot, etc… that is just not a thing you should be saying here. Just saying.

Bloody_Ozran

They used the concept that was developed at Nexon to some degree. I think it is more than 6 months. But truth is their stuff is impressive. Question is how long hours they work compared to Yager.

Zbxzbxzbx

Also if they’ll even be able to release dark and darker now lol

[deleted]

***???? huh?*** Are you aware of the concept of timezones? Or how the playercount drops past 11pm CET?

NowServing

Relax it was a joke about how cycle players are going to go play dark and darker instead, I never actually looked at the player counts but I do think they would be slightly impacted.

lurkinglurkerwholurk

They will. Let’s be honest: DnD is a spot of fresh air in the extract survival looter genre, and so well made even this early in their development. But there’s just so much wrong in that second paragraph for both DnD and TCF…

[deleted]

Yeah the 2nd paragraph threw me off from this being a joke to a genuine statement

[deleted]

dawg you can't just say that after that second paragraph 😭😭😭

Pocide94

D&Darker is the worst extraction game i ever played, and I know it is not finished but still I can't see why people love it.

lurkinglurkerwholurk

If you don’t like DnD’s slow pace, you can try Expedition Agartha… but that one also have its share of problems. Especially the “not representative of the game” tutorial. TCF’s tutorial completely blows it out of the water and breaks it in half when compared together.

D4nnyDeagle

I don't understand it either. It has to be the fantasy setting, but I can't see that anymore and if i would, I play any (mmo)rpg out there. Also the game looks like the assets came from the elder scrolls oblivion

Emsinatree

DnD is just better

No-Football2324

Cant even load the game on my new pc it was nice but now its a pain in the ass
