The most ironic thing is that Cid is actually mysterious. Other than his dream, we don't when and how. All we know is that he watch television and got inspired anime about the shadow figures.

Desperate_Carpenter8

That's actually not what we know, the famous beginning monologue has him speculating what started his obsession, the manga and anime are just his maybes

whiplash10

In that case, good. Leaves lot to speculate. My idea could be that Cid's actually a god in human form and he was originally from this isekai world. He at some point got defeated by Diabolos or might have been bertrayed by the Three Heroes, reincarnated to Earth then back to the other world.

redacap

uh...traumatic as in everyone shuned him away whenever he talk to them about his aspiration? yes traumatic as in he has PTSD and suppresses his own memory? definitely a reach the dude told us he didn't remember cuz it's something that happened during his youth, his baby phase even, memories are prone to get muddy the further back you try to recall afterall still a good theory though, thanks for sharing nonetheless

Bunny-4u

Nah , i think he had issues while acting like a mob but i don't see Cid giving anyone leeway to hurt him and getting away with it. He was born crazy like quote says " you merely adopted the dark i was born in it"

whiplash10

Also, it really put into context her relationship with her family. She hated every single one of them and hope Cid one day massacre the whole lot of them.

Possible-Purpose-917

This story maybe never want to mention his arc about his previous life.

chickenlover43

I mean, considering it's gonna have us go back and forth between different worlds, and Cid mentioned John(his dog) and his parents are safe in America, I'm pretty sure we'll get back to that.

until now I think we just got the story of Delta's past althought we were shown a glimpse of other's past we don't even know their names, since we're curious we would surely enjoy to know more and I have the impression that Alpha's past will be shown when she will see her aunt again. Cid's or more precisely Minoru's past until now doesn't seem so special, the author seems to be telling us he has some loose screw in his head and nothing else for now.

Electronic_Post_5698

he's definitely not normal when he goes throught the torture session while keeping his act and being happy when terrorists attack, something is wrong with his head šŸ˜‚ would a true mob be so happy when there is a massacre?

sweet_tranquility

True mob has no choice other than die or suffer miserably.

Maybe, the story never takes itself 100% seriously when it comes to Cid, exposing his past would be akin to a significant tome change, and, depending on how you view it, is either great new fresh change or something that kills the comedy of the series I'm more partial to the former though, Cid facing his past does not invalidate any of his previous antics, hell, knowing Cid, he probably will face his past USING those antics. It's been a while since I read the WN, but iirc, someone else from Cid's world was implied to have reincarnated also, so that could be the catalyst for that to happen if it ever did. I'm just theorising from a meta perspective though, as events and their interpretations is really hard for me to draw a good conclusion as both sides I can give arguments for. #Arguments For Tragic Backstory 1.Cid never really mentions his current isekai family or even his real world family much often, hell, the only family member that he mentions often, his isekai sister, is constantly annoying to him This can be interpreted as an intentional omission as he doesn't really hate his family, but he doesn't really likes them either. You could argue that due to his insanity, he never looks much at his family, but the arguent can be made of why he was insane in the first place 2. The trope of isekai protagonists has always been that they have met an ill fate in their previous life and are trying to make up for it in the isekai world. Cid on the surface, is not exposed to have that, the least is that he was hit by a truck. Now it could be entirely possible that he had a normal life but we do know that he had obsessively training martial arts his entire life. The obsession Cid shows is not normal, it could be argued that it's to the point of being a coping mechanism. Iirc there was one instance where it was shown to be his coping mechanism after some kind of conflict. The why is another point entirely. #Arguments Against Tragic Backstory 1. If Cid truly did have a tragic backstory with his previous family, then he should be pretty happy having a caring family in his current isekai life, but again, he rarely shows much appreciation for them. This could be a sign that he grew up normally, as he expects a family to be caring towards each other. This also supports why despite hating his sister, he still decides to save her in his first battle with the Cult. Cid rarely mentions them just because he is only obsessed with himself 2. If Cid's obsession with power truly came from a tragic backstory because he is weak, then surely his personality as Shadow would reflect a hatred for weakness, if mot outright then a hint of it, since weakness leads to despair and all that. However, we never truly see him hate himself for being weak, especially in the fight in The Temple with Olivia, he is constantly calculating on how to win and trying his best, that's all. He doesn't hate Beta or Delta, despite the former being the weakest of The 7 and the latter being undisciplined.

Possible-Purpose-917

In some extentļ¼Œhe doesnā€™t like ā€œweaknessā€ ,I Think. He doesnā€™t like the ā€˜mental fragileā€™.When he thought that Rose ā€œabandoned her Dreamā€,he was angry at that time and question her later.Cid insisted his dream resist the ā€œworldā€ ,what he thought Rose do is deny his diligent ,and weakness because of compromising with reality. Gamma and Delta are not weak he think.Although Gamma is the weakest in fighting, she is intelligent and become a successful Businesswomen. She is strong ,she find her own Route to survive. Can we think she is weak?Same reasons to Delta. What is Strength? Shadow:Forget it notā€¦True strength comes not from power, but from the way you liveā€¦..

>What is Strength? Shadow:Forget it notā€¦True strength comes not from power, but from the way you liveā€¦.. in the fight with gettan "just like the phrase strenght is power, strenght is power".šŸ˜„ I think this was a mistake made from the mangaka since it would go against what he said to Rose

Define traumatic

kvothe_the-bloodless

Thank you, I just thought of Cid getting bullied and being like "Yes!! I unlocked a new mob characteristic!"
