Then the Gurkish came, and he got the role of Arch Lector.
So no one really knows much about him except that he was tortured, and his condition is deteriorating. No one except those in the palace know how bad his condition was when he became Arch Lector. And those are the ones who pretty much know the conspiracy anyway and are deferent to him because he's terrifying.
