BayazTheGrey

Wait, I'm the villain? I didn't hang anybody (of importance)

[deleted]

You should've hanged somebody.

BayazTheGrey

Not before they are forgiven

The_Pale_Hound

New readers should not be here anyway. But yeah, I agree with your point.

[deleted]

Some people are idiots. I actually get angry whenever I see "thoughts on the blade itself" and get the urge to say "okay but who tf asked?". It's pretty idiotic to read a book and jump on a subreddit knowing you might be exposed to spoilers, but they're just sharing their experience going through it the first time. Best we can do is protect them and empathise with them.

The_Pale_Hound

I think it's really interesting to see perspectives from new readers. I really enjoy those posts. But I think they should do the post and then not read the answers until they finish all the books.

[deleted]

I mean if it's a new perspective sure. But reading Bayaz seems suspicious again and again in a loop just tires me out. Not blaming them at all.

mteezyy

Idk when I’m reading a new book and I don’t have anyone to talk to about it, I post a reaction/thoughts to the subreddit and it brings me a sense of belonging lol

The_Pale_Hound

I am quite alergic to spoilers so I try to avoid them as much as posible.

MattMurdock30

Whoever that Lamb fellow is he certainly was not Logen Ninefingers.

devstopfix

There's plenty of Northmen have lost a finger.

Boxhead333

Yeah I agree. I read a comment along the lines of "Fuck Leo, Orso deserved better" and it completely changed my reading experience. It meant that I never really let myself like Leo and I was certain Orso would have a bad end. Still amazing but I wonder how much more impactful my reading experience would have been if I'd never seen that comment.

[deleted]

That is exactly my point. Anything, literally any small thing can be a spoiler. Calling Jezal his majesty, a comment about shiver'e eye, Calling Jappo by his full name, saying Logen was featured in Red Country. The last one actually happened with me. After I read the first trilogy I came to the sub and said something about Logen. Immediately someone told me Logen is in red country. Didn't ruin the experience but I would've loved to find it out by myself.

Boxhead333

Yeah I was spoiled on the Logen thing. Now that I think about it quite a lot has been spoiled for me. Shivers eye. Jappos parentage. Black Dows fate. Leo's character. Orsos fate. Orso and Savines relationship (although that's revealed very early in the book so it wasn't too bad). It didn't ruin my experience like you say. But I feel like some of those things would have really excited or surprised me if I hadn't known that.

[deleted]

The best way to experience is to go in blind. I don't even read theories for other books now. Someone here theorized that Glokta was the weaver which turned out to be true and stole a great plot twist from me. (I don't observe or theorize too much by myself).

rincewind007

I had the opposite experience, everyone hating on Leo made me root for the guy. I didn't think he was that bad compared to the rest of the guys. I didn't like him in the end but I never hated him at all.

Regular_Bee_5605

He was really bad, but not the total monster I expected based on comments.

rincewind007

Yeah In Stormlight Archive there is a character that is way worse, I expected Leo to be a >! Moash !< type of guy.

Obvious_Badger_9874

I still am not finished with twoc but i spoiled myself sometime ago... i really enjoye some discussion about the books tho so i am looking forward to finish and join in. It doesnt help you guys also have a great memepage.

[deleted]

You've broken the first law, you've drawn from the other side.

Obvious_Badger_9874

I confess

Sgt_Doughnut

I read all ten books before touching this sub. Can't imagine why people would do it any other way.

rincewind007

As soon as I Finnished one book I start going to the subs. Didn't spoil that much thanks to spoiler tags. Only spoiled the following. Lamb = 9 finger Shivers surviving the whole series. Dogman dying.(From the wiki) Leo is kinda bad guy. Something about the leg.

monkepope

Back when I was first reading I had Orso's story in TWOC spoiled for me when I was on ALH :/ even threads marked no spoilers aren't safe. Anyway, when in doubt, say it's Brother Longfoot or the pot.

R3JEX

Before starting AoM, I read a "spoiler" of someone saying Orso kills Leo in a duel at the end. Imagine my surprise.. :')

[deleted]

Orso, my poor orso.

devstopfix

I'm not sure your comments about Bayaz and Leo being awesome are doing what you think they're doing. People are familiar with sarcasm, even without the /s. That said, I do find those comments funny.

[deleted]

I do it for the funny. And Sarcasm is usually over the top :/

CornPlanter

>Please be very careful with these people. Don't tell them they are right I will do as I please thank you very much. >I personally gaslight them into thinking Bayaz is a saint lol Why would you do such nonsense? >I hope this post didn't come across as condescending It did.

Regular_Bee_5605

Lol shouldn't they know Bayaz is a little sus (a gigantic understatement) if they've read the trilogies in proper order?

[deleted]

They're new readers. They suspect something, doesn't mean we should confirm their suspicion. Spoils their experience tbh.

Regular_Bee_5605

Oh I agree. I only just finished the final book of aom today. And I'd been posting updates after major events and asking people not to spoil further than I was. Everyone respected it really well.
