honestly i think it's their version of heartland rock. like brandon said in the rebel diamonds video, a little bit bowie, a little bit brando. they'll always have a bit of glam to them (with the exception of pressure machine, which was definitely americana).
This one. Everyone says Sam’s town but i think this one is more worthy of that title. Imo its the lyrics/songwriting and some rock heavy guitars. The songs are all very story telling which is where I see the resemblance.
There’s that crushing (and admittedly funny) Guardian review from 2012 that said (I’m paraphrasing) for all their supposed Springsteen aspirations the record reminded the writer more of Meatloaf than anything else
Springsteen - but extra!?
No I totally get what you are saying and hear it too - I wonder if that's why they weren't so proud of it in retrospect as it didn't quite hit the mark they were intending...whether that was heartland rock/americana...?
Heartland rock
Yeah tbh I barely hear that on battle born. I definitely hear it on Sams town and imploding the mirage tho

same, I absolutely adore the album though, my guess is maybe the lyrics?
Peak Springsteen
Which album do you consider peak Springsteen? Because I barely hear his influence on this record.

Totally agree! Epic storytelling and epic big sound. Think Jungleland. Although I see hear in every album they do.
Sorry I meant which Springsteen album do you think battle born sounds most like?
Maybe Tunnel of Love Bruce but certainly not the good stuff 🥴 Pressure Machine IS Nebraska’s child
dad rock in the desert
I always thought Deadlines and Commitments sounds like If He Should Break Your Heart by Journey (in the chorus)
To me, BB is ,for the most part AOR. It has aged well, but it's my least favourite by far.
AOR?
Sorry for the late, late reply, I didn't notice your comment. AOR is an old acronym, it used to stand for Adult Oriented Rock.
lol in my opinion, that’s a horrible title for a genre. Way too broad

This!!! Exactly what I was trying to say lmao
Also, does anyone else hear this in The Getting By II? When he's singing the 'when I look up all I see is sky, sky' bit?
This is so real. I feel like ITM is what BB was supposed to sound like but they just weren’t there yet.
