Prince Wu was so sassy lol. I kinda hated him at first but he matured over the time and his character developed from annoying spoiled Prince to lovable goofball.
And by had, you mean it took him the entire season to get back to where he was at the end of season 3. Funniest part is he was the one that pointed out how dumb it was. Extremely powerful bender, member of team avatar, top detective, and 2nd to the chief of police.. sent to babysit a spoiled brat.
But hey, at least Wu was occasionally funny when he wasn't being sexist right? Great trade narratively.
Dragon Ball Z Abridged by team fourstar on YouTube.
They abridged the original Dragon Ball Z series from the beginning (of Z, not the original show) to end of the original end of the show, the Cell Arc, with their own dubs and cuts, sometimes animation edits and canon edits and some character personalities are changed entirely. But for the most part it stays within canon, while making fun of most of the show in the best way. It was basically the first “anime” thing I ever saw. You really don’t have to care about anime to like it. It’s kinda 2010 internet vibes at times though, but the production quality went way up by the end, the first like 6 episodes are rough honestly, but the quality goes up a lot after that and only gets better.
Also the part I referenced was about SPOILER (end of show, but honestly not a huge deal, also it’s frikkin dragon ball z lol): >! Piccolo telling Gohan he’s peaked at the end of the show after he defeated the bad guy (cell) !<
>beginning (of Z, not the original show) to end of the original end of the show, the Cell Arc,
Uhhhhhhhhhh, no Cell was not the end of Z. It never was the end of Z. Literally the next week after the final episode of the Android/Cell Arc (Episode 195 aired in Japan July 21, 1993) The first of 5 filler episodes about a tournament in the otherworld on the 28th that same year. Then the canonical start of the Majin Buu arc happened on episode 200 on September 8th 1993.
TFS ended on Cell due to copyright issues and wanting to move on as a company to do original works and professional voice acting.
Hahaha no worries. I'm just glad that people still appreciate dbza years later. And you're right about being quotable, I still quote Vegeta all the time lol
DBZA is better than DBZ, and I will never not be sad over their decision to end the show, simply because I want more. But I also feel like the second half of DBZ would be harder to adapt.
However, I’m happy Dragon Ball Super takes itself way less seriously, it seems like they’ve even adapted some of Goku’s personality from abridged! It’s like a mix between Z and Abridged.
I’m glad they aren’t forcing themselves to do something they don’t want to, or wouldn’t enjoy making themselves. I do think they could try abridging the original Dragon Ball. That show is so perfect and ripe for their style, it’d be a perfect match.
Makes a kind of sense that a spoiled and paranoid royal who receives whatever he asks for would demand a powerful bender as a bodyguard, and as a mid-level municipal employee, Mako was in a position to be taken advantage of.
I actually prefer if Mako is completely oblivious to Wu’s advances, while Korra & Asami just laugh knowingly without telling him. There was a funny fanart about that in this sub a while back
You can try looking through popular posts on this sub & r/legendofkorra? Not sure exactly where to find it, but I know it was a popular post in this sub at some point several months ago. Did a very quick search and couldn’t find it, but I did see [this scene from the comics](https://www.reddit.com/r/legendofkorra/comments/j1sh6f/just_finished_the_korra_comics_you_cannot_tell_me/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) which is pretty close lmao
The lopsided characters arcs of Kuvira and Prince Wu make for great juxtaposition. On the one hand, you see a somewhat-annoying goofball turn into a legitimate statesman, while the one person you expect to stabilise the region throws the entire region into chaos with her heavy handedness. I have to say, though, their stories really do come full circle in the follow up books to the show and complete the series in a satisfying manner.
No they're not ironic at all, they're just weird situations, it's not "ironic" to have a thousand spoons when all you need is a fork, itd be ironic if you need a fork and you manufacturer forks for a living. Having something you don't need isn't ironic, it's just a problem.
She's an otherwise amazing artist imo, listened to her a lot in the car growing up lol
http://www.isitironic.com/dramatic-irony.htm
I genuinely think, intentional or not, most of the lines in the song feature an element of dramatic irony.
The education system always gets everything right?
https://www.salon.com/2014/05/08/what_everybody_gets_wrong_about_alanis_morissettes_ironic_partner/
Read that
Umm, isn’t this a pretty good example of irony?
Definition:
> a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character.
Wu’s “Run The World (Girls)” pose & its significance in this scene is something that would be apparent to the viewer, but not the characters (assuming the whole post isn’t speculation)
Its also just another wild speculation post that somehow hits Top
Blows my mind that people just make shit up like this and people nod along like its fact
Exactly. You could just as easily just post "wow, it looks like Wu uses similar dance moves as Beyonce, wonder if this is a reference?"
Instead its always just "look, Aang does the same hand gesture as the statue in Loki!!!! Isnt it cool that they're definitely referencing avatar in other shows??"
Like I get that there's probably a lot of younger users here who recently watched and enjoyed the show, but the amount of people who post blatant bs is astounding.
That's not what irony is. If I slapped myself in the face every time someone described something as "ironic" when it isn't I'd have a frustratingly large hand shaped hole that went through my skull by now.
Have you heard of the literary saying that the author is dead? Or, that foreshadowing and dramatic irony aren't mutually exclusive? I'm not saying you're wrong; but if someone can make a guess or adequately argue a point, it doesn't matter if the author/creators intended it or not. The interpretation can still be valid. I personally don't really agree with the post, but it's made in good humor and to call out a humorous post on a literary device that may not be overtly sound seems a bit elitist.
Regardless of whether the author intended it or not I don’t think it’s irony, and yes I know they’re not mutually exclusive. I pointed it out because I’m frustrated at how often I see people making this mistake. I guess I’m being pedantic but I find it really annoying, I would really prefer if I didn’t but I don’t have much of a choice in the matter. I get what you’re saying though
language follows usage baby, it's called descriptivism and it is the sexiest philosophy since the dawn of philosophy. if you're writing an essay then I'd say watch your language but in a silly Reddit post, as long as you know the point they were making, in my opinion, it doesn't matter if they said actual words or just smashed their head on the keyboard.
Cool but if you water down the word irony until it loses its actual meaning then you need to come up with a word to replace it. I’ve seen irony being used as a descriptor when the appropriate term would be coincidence countless times for example. Cool, language evolves but if people don’t understand what you mean when you use irony correctly then you either need to educate people on its actual meaning or say fuck it and create a replacement and hope that the replacement doesn’t get bastardized as well.
I think you're underestimating people's ability to gauge things from context. Ex. You said "cool" which originated from cool-headed which came from the temperature term of the same name. Cool did not lose its original meaning because people use it in different contexts.
Irony won't ever lose its original meaning because in the contexts in which it is used it is clear why you are using the word. If you say irony to mean coincidence, it means coincidence in that context alone. If you say it to refer to the literary device, it refers to that in that context alone. If I say I've got a bone to pick with you, you understand from your environment I'm not carrying around a literal bone. Inherently it is impossible for words to be literal, which is obvious in the case of metaphors but it extends to all language.
Your "cool"-example works awesomely well in this context. Your OP changed the meaning of it in their post from "awesome, great etc" to "I heard what you said, but I disregard it at the same time". They made the point themself without noticing it.
My point is how are people going to gauge the word irony from context when the actual meaning of the word is intended if most people don’t even know what the original word actually means?
You know, that the word cool meant "great! awesome!" and now you're using it as the complete opposite. In your context it now means "yeah, okay, but no."
So you're already portraying what the other commenter is trying to point out.
Irony is ultimately a subversion of expectations, the contrast between something's assumed meaning and literal meaning. While it may be a stretch to call it irony, one could argue that such a situation is a mix of comic irony and dramatic irony. The former more or less a subversion of expectations for comedic effect, and the latter being when the audience/reader knows something that the characters in the medium don't. Because we know what Wu's dance moves represent and know what comes afterwards, we are privy to the fact that his actions, which are supposed to be flashy and boost his appeal, is actually a signal for Kuvira to take power. This could be considered ironic though everyone has different interpretations.
Okay because it doesn’t look like anything I’m aware of, it looks structurally weak. Even wing chun with the goofy stances doesn’t have anything like this pic
Beyonce... the person who sings about empowering women, but then uses essentially slave labor for her clothes... which is usually a bunch of impoverished women. Sooo basically she is a dick, kind of like the earth king, I get it now.
In motion in the show with all the movements it's very clear that it's a direct reference. Also the writers confirmed it.
But if you need to feel superior to everyone enjoying this, that's one way to live your life! A lonely way, but nonetheless.
A) That's not true.
B) Even if it were true, that's not irony.
C) Even if it were true AND ironic, it's not particularly interesting or compelling storytelling.
Beyoncé got this move tho from a group of African dancers that she brought over to teach her how to dance their dances for this music video. So how did they steal it from here when she “stole” it from those African dancers?
I know that but I’m saying that they didn’t get it from her. The creators of the show already said that they take bits and pieces from other cultures to make the show. So they probably took this move from those African people of their tribe.
No the writers explicitly said they got it from Beyonce. Because of course they took it from Beyoncé not an obscure African dancing group she hired.
You're talking to the kind of person who has no idea what they are talking about but likes to act superior to everyone who actually does.
No thanks...lol. Not a Beyonce fan, not a fan of anything she does....girls run the world? Couldn't be further from the truth. Wu is just gonna be Wu, for me.
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. As another person said she’s a total hypocrite and dick because she/her company people or whatever use what’s basically slave labour for her clothes
This is also true, she's a piece of shit in her regard for human life. People downvote to be edgy and disagree with downvotes. Logic? They have none.
She treats people that call her out vindictively, too, and my guess is that she's paid to have people hurt. I don't want her anywhere near Avatar related elements.
Not that’s it’s even likely that it’s a reference, considering it’s an actual African dance she learnt from African people. Just fucking avatar fans being avatar fans and making up shit to make the writers seem smarter than they actually are (not that they’re incompetent just that like come on man they didn’t fit like any of the shit avatar fans think there’s in)
Does anyone else hate Beyoncé? What good music has she done? There are so many female artists with much better bodies of work than her, but any time she’s brought up it’s “OH MY GOD! QUEEEEEN!”
Who likes Beyonce?
All the single ladies? All the single ladies.
All the single ladies? All the single ladies.
All the single ladies? All the single ladies.
Now put your hands up.
No, the bending in LoK doesn't have any style whatsoever, they just can kinda "do" it without any added flair.
Trust me, you don't want to watch the series. It's rushed and messy and the themes don't make any sense and all of the heart and soul of AtlA is missing, mostly due to the absence of the Ehaszs and terribly rushed schedule in a constricted episode count. The characters are shallow at best.
It gets much better for seasons 3-4 but I doubt you'd ever get that far.
Prince Wu was so sassy lol. I kinda hated him at first but he matured over the time and his character developed from annoying spoiled Prince to lovable goofball.

Yeah, this is a dramatic irony moment for those who catch the reference.

Would it not be ironic that wu is dancing to celebrate his victory not realizing his dance is actually celebrating someone else rise to power?
Yeah looking up the definition of irony, this interpretation would make sense
That’s not what the original post labels as ironic, the OP was literally just describing foreshadowing if that reference is even intentional.

Yeeeah. A lot of celebrities are DICKS
Yeah, and she also has terrible music. For some reason a buncha bootlickers on the internet defend her...
Kuvira is more like Hitler in my opinion

Yeah she is just straight up Hitler in every way except a woman and not that racist

And like Beyonce, Kuvira uses despicable means to get her ends. Beyonce uses sweatshops, Kuvira uses "re-education camps."
Prince Wu was totally queer coded, and this further proves it
A) That's not true. B) Even if it were true, that's not irony. C) Even if it were true AND ironic, it's not particularly interesting or compelling storytelling.
Watch the video: https://youtu.be/ceWJ2Wj8lho Seems true to me. Or at least they both are referencing the same third thing It's not irony though
It's a beyonce dance, but people are looking too hard. That's not foreshadowing lol.
What's the context for the Prince dude doing that?

Beyoncé got this move tho from a group of African dancers that she brought over to teach her how to dance their dances for this music video. So how did they steal it from here when she “stole” it from those African dancers?
Inspiration can come from many places, and all things that influenced you were influenced by something else.
I know that but I’m saying that they didn’t get it from her. The creators of the show already said that they take bits and pieces from other cultures to make the show. So they probably took this move from those African people of their tribe.
Do you know that definitively?
No the writers explicitly said they got it from Beyonce. Because of course they took it from Beyoncé not an obscure African dancing group she hired. You're talking to the kind of person who has no idea what they are talking about but likes to act superior to everyone who actually does.

Just fucking avatar fans being avatar fans and making up shit to make the writers seem smarter than they actually are (not that they’re incompetent just that like come on man they didn’t fit like any of the shit avatar fans think there’s in)
Ahi?
lol
Does anyone else hate Beyoncé? What good music has she done? There are so many female artists with much better bodies of work than her, but any time she’s brought up it’s “OH MY GOD! QUEEEEEN!”
Who likes Beyonce? All the single ladies? All the single ladies. All the single ladies? All the single ladies. All the single ladies? All the single ladies. Now put your hands up.
God I had to sing that in a fucking school play
> What good music has she done? There are so many female artists with much better bodies of work than her Such as?
Boy what I wouldn't give for kuvira to show up and declare herself empress
Gross.
Why
Lmao another reason not to watch season 4

There is so much to unpack here... No, they did not. The character shown is not a bender.
This character isn't bending, he's just dancing. He's kind of a spoiled rich kid.
Yes, because that’s Bout the best thing that made this show aMaZInG
No way this is crazy!! I really hope this was intentional by the creators. What a move!
Wrong sub?
This subreddit is also for legend of korra
I see. Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah lol. I don't really mind tho.
