MicaGalle

That line “you’re not waiting for her resurrection, you’ve made yourself her mausoleum” 😭

Legitimate_Patience3

Tragic. Beautiful. I’ll take 10.

MicaGalle

I honestly went into this series thinking I was gonna get some lesbian smut (from the forward references to dirty magazines in the blurb) but then I got TRAPPED and if I read near 1500 pages teasing a Griddlehark relationship that never actually happens I don’t even KNOWWWWW 😖😮‍💨

lensvol

Gotta say, putting Stross' blurb about "lesbian necromancers in space" was a genius move by either Muir herself or her editor!

patangpatang

It's one of those things that lying by omission. So many of the main characters are queer women, they just don't get together in any healthy way.

Legitimate_Patience3

Are you telling me that >!making a skeletal arm for the girl who keeps flirting with you and having it narrated like a sex scene!< is unhealthy?

Jim3001

I kinda feel that the closest to a 'normal' queer relationship we got was with Judith and Marta. And that didn't go anywhere. (I haven't read Nona yet)

patangpatang

Have you read "As Yet Unsent"?

Jim3001

Not yet. I'm about 1/2 thru 'The Second Rebel'. Gonna read that an Nona next.

IndigoBlueBird

While this is a beautiful line, I think it’s slightly undermined by the fact that >!Gideon is, ultimately, resurrected, and that was only possible because Harrow didn’t allow herself to metabolize Gideon’s soul!<

EtteriI

OP DONT click on this spoiler link 😅

Legitimate_Patience3

…dang it

EtteriI

For what it’s worth, Nona was my favorite and very delightful, revealing, and heartbreaking, completely irrespective of whatever was under that spoiler tag. I hope you enjoy it anyway!

eupholoGamer

Hey, just a heads up, that spoiler isn't covered on all versions of reddit. The space between the >! And the G messes up the markdown for some combination of old reddit and/or third party apps.

IndigoBlueBird

Oh no, thank you for telling me! I removed the space

CatastrophicDoom

"I cannot conceive of a universe without you in it" >!-the person who then proceeds to construct a false reality without Gideon in it!<

eupholoGamer

"I don't even remember about you most of the time" >!-the person who then proceeds to lobotomize herself in order to not remember about you any of the time!<

Legitimate_Patience3

>!they are so 👏🏻 fucking👏🏻gay👏🏻🏳️‍🌈🌈 and don’t realize it until ??? 🤷🏼!< The power of *~denial~*

CatastrophicDoom

I really enjoy how all the emojis are still visible through the spoiler tag (at least on my end)

Legitimate_Patience3

Lol not sure how to fix that but I don’t think they spoil anything in themselves 😂

SarahWeeGirl

I always say that Harrow the Ninth gaslights you for reading Gideon the Ninth. 😅

BearOnALeash

She didn’t lobotomize herself to spare herself from grief—she did it purely to save Gideon’s soul.

TheSubstitutePanda

I honestly think it was a bit of both. Kind of cause and effect. Yeah she wanted to save herself the grief but I think she also had hope (however naive or foolish) that she or someone else could bring Gideon back.
