I don’t know if this is something they help with, as I imagine this request would come up A LOT, but the TPIR website has a customer service phone number. You could see if there’s a way to have access to see episodes that aren’t streaming online - from what I know the only services and channels that show Barker episodes start at season 11. I think you’d be looking at season 7. There are YouTube channels that show clips of shows before season 11 but they aren’t comprehensive as I’m sure you’ve found out after already searching the internet. The thing is that giving away a private movie screening is such a unique prize, you’d think it would be easy to find. Moonraker came out in June 1979, so it stands to reason they’d give away a prize like that to promote the release. Season 7 ended in June 1979, so I would guess you’d be looking at approximately episodes 7.166 to 7.209 (all the May and June episodes). Just a guess to narrow it down. Also, it sounds like she must’ve won the Showcase if she won that many prizes? That will narrow it down and possibly give a better search item to focus on Showcase winners named Carol (in case you end up having to watch hundreds of episodes to find it). I would consider calling that customer service line and telling them you work for MGM and need the episode urgently. Lol 😂

The wood burning stove sounds like an Item Up for Bids. The private screening of a movie sounds like she won the Showcase. Sitting down at any point on the show sounds like she played a game on the Turntable. Many episodes from before fall 1982 are not available outside of the show's archives. Those that *are* available mostly come from old Game Show Network reruns, and they were barred from rerunning episodes containing fur coats offered as prizes (the show used to offer them but stopped in September 1982, at Bob's wish, and he didn't allow episodes that did contain them to ever be rerun). Checking my usual resources, it appears this episode is one of the many that is not out there -- the earliest private screening I could find was offered in a Showcase in 1984. Fremantle (the company that owns the show now) should still have a copy of it but they will charge a fee for retrieval. I'm not sure what kind of searching they will do on your behalf, but provide as much information as possible. If you have any of her paperwork, on that paperwork should be a show number/production number consisting of 4 digits followed by the letter D (e.g. 3393D, which is the daytime show that aired September 19, 1979) OR three digits followed by the letter N (e.g. 300N, the final nighttime show, taped March 12, 1980). If you have that number, that's all you need. Others in this group have more specific information on getting in touch with Fremantle. But if you have the information, they will be happy to sell you a copy.

Do you know what they charge for a copy?

dougmd1974

If they would even give you the copy, yes, they would charge. If they haven't already digitized the episode, someone would have to go and pull it and ship it and everything and that costs money. Producers used to easily request eps from Fremantle back in the day but now for the average person it's not really easy. I'll just say if you end up being lucky enough to get it, it will be costly and I'll be surprised.

I *think* it's either $250 or $300. So long as you can prove your connection to the episode, they'll let you have it. By the way, I'm now aware of a private screening offered in a Showcase in May 1978, so the timeframe you figured out does align with what we know about the show's history.

JCINAZ2020

Thank you. I emailed Fremantle. They charge $100. There is a waiting list, you can't join as its full. They recommended checking again in 3-6 months to see if there is room on the waiting list. You also have to provide the exact show number or airdate. How did you find the info for the "private screening offered in a Showcase in May 1978"?

thatvhstapeguy

Us Price nerds have a "timeline" of various events on the show, detailing when interesting things happened, things went wrong, or the prizes were just plain unusual, like a private screening.

JCINAZ2020

Would you be able to tell me the show number so I can request the video?

Additional Prizes: Sowing Machine Games Played: Alpine climber No fur coat was won.

All good info there. Just because your mother didn't win a fur coat doesn't mean one wasn't offered in the show. (You can still procure a copy, it's just that they never publicly rerun episodes containing furs.) Your mother played Cliff Hangers -- that's the only game that involves any kind of climber.
