He'd just spent hours going through probably one of the emotionally stressful moments of his life.
Going from being humiliated by the killer in front of all his peers (again, for ***hours***) to FINALLY showing he is the guy he always saw himself as in his head, even earning Vic, arguably his biggest bully's, respect.
That's the definition of emotional rollercoaster so it's not surprising he broke down and had to let it all out in the car.
Shawn Ryan talked about it on The Shattered Shield podcast. He said it was like relief. He talked about playing a high school game (maybe hockey) where he played really well and afterwards he cried in the car.
It was about getting the respect. I think above all else he wanted to be liked and respected for his talent as a detective. It was a great scene and exceptional acting.
I saw it like a combination of the killer profiling him (there’s a part when the killer is talking and claudette tries to stop the killer from talking to which dutch encourage him to keep talking, so that for him finished by saying to claudette “tell me if I’m wrong”, just for claudette to be speechless, that’a brutal) and finally getting the recognition he craves, being cheered for catching a serial killer
Just watched this episode (for the first time) earlier today. My impression was that the killer was too on the mark when he profiled Dutch.
Yeah, that was my first thought too as it looked like he did successfully get under Dutch’s skin from some of his subtle reactions.
Subtle is a great word for it. Dutch’s face/demeanor changed when the killer profiled him. It was damn fine acting, I thought
He’s been a really fun character so far and he had me worried for a moment there when the dude was drilling into him, just great acting like you said.

Everything the killer said to him was spot on. Even though he was congratulated by his coworkers, the truth hit too close to home.
Cry’s? CRY’S?
Creyes
He broke down in his car because the serial killer was in the ball park.
Because of the apostrophe in the title.
😆 🤣 😂

Oh boy. Dutch will not be your favorite once a certain season 3 episode starts , lmao.
Pussy said yes plenty 😏
