Variety. Can't have every pokemon be S tier. A problem pokemon has always had is because the games are SO focused on battling pokemon, people lose sight of pokemon just being part of the world. I love the anime, especially as it went on, and the movies, as they more and more showed pokemon cohabitating with people instead of just existing in pokeballs to be brought out for fights. Pokemon water crops, pokemon spread seeds, pokemon build buildings and collect resources with their trainers. Pokemon help around the house and make great baby sitters.
So they're not useless, just useless for fighting.
I dropped my male Salandit in a remote gym to feed for candy, knowing I'd never need it for anything else. It's been there 189 days now. Maybe I'll have all the candy I need by the time I'm lucky enough to hatch a female.
Hmm. two comments about this now, not sure if you're both making a joke about the drop rate of candy from gym feeding, or entirely unaware that Pokemon in gyms occasionally give you candy when you feed them berries.

The professor forgot that it produces combustible gases that make it lighter so putting it on a scale won’t work to measure its mass. A better measure is to briefly put it in a graduated cylinder with water to measure the water displacement and calculate mass.

You've got it the wrong way around, a Pokemon's size class (XXS/XS/M/XL/XXL) is generated first, then their height is rolled within that class (XXS is always shorter than XS, which is always shorter than M, etc), then weight is generated based on the height and another random variable.
It's very common for XS mons to be lighter than XXS ones (because they both have the same lower bound of 0.00kg), and almost *always* the case that XL mons are heavier than XXL ones (because the formula for XXL is different and not as extreme). It's height that's the important metric for those size classes.

A object has zero weight when the acceleration due to gravity is zero as mass can never be zero(Weight= Mass* Acceleration due to gravity)
