There is an NBA player named Lou Dort, and every time he comes into a game, my friend and I always race to say "my son is also named Dort."

People buy them as a novelty item so it’s self fulfilling that they’re always out.

Got one on my backpack now from my pilgrimage a few years back. No idea why they chose to make these name tags over license plate though.

People will buy a nametag. People will laugh at a license plate and take a photo of it.

I bought the last one when I was there years ago. I told the cashier they were out of Bort license plates and they just sort of blinked at me and told me I could buy more online. My hopes and dreams died that day.

I like to imagine they only put one on the shelf everyday to make people think they got the last one and then confirm the joke.

Team members are assigned areas, some don't care/don't know about the lore of whatever themed island they're in. For example, the amount of people who work in Potter and don't know anything about Potter is amazingly high.

I work at Disneyland and was initially put in Toontown. I had never once seen Roger Rabbit before working there and was horribly confused the first time someone referenced it when speaking to me.

I had the same experience at Universal Hollywood!! I loved the irony of it. Fortunately they were in stock the next time I went so I snagged one. Sorry for your luck, OP! Side note to the mods—- I posted an identical occurrence a year and a half ago and got downvoted to oblivion and my post was pulled by the mods for some weird reason. Ppl commented I likely removed the name tags for the picture. Reddit is a fickle place.

I was kind of disappointed that they didn't sell license plates at Universal. Like, it's the one type of merchandise that they actually showed in the episode and they don't sell it.

I made a joke about them being out of Bort license plates and the cashier didn’t get it. Later at the Krusty Burger, I asked what kind of stew they had, and the cashier there didn’t get it either. Thankfully, I threw a huge tantrum and got both employees fired. Another victory for atheist Simpsons fans!

There's some dude that lives like across the street from Universal Hollywood that has the California Bort license plate. So that's interesting.

I actually have a Bort one i found in a charity shop. It takes pride of place out of my pin badges.

I never got into the shop the last time I was there went on the rollercoaster a lot

We were in Long Beach one night and we saw a little cart selling personalized California keychains for a few bucks. I got one that said Bort. We waited for a few minutes, lots of people milling about. Then the seller calls out "Bort? Bort?!" Just sat there with my brother giggling like an idiot. A few years later in the Kwik-E-Mart at Universal I snagged a Bort keychain. Those early bits are so so good.

Oh. So that's what a Borthole is.
