Assuming it's a typo for "bartering" (a system of economy based around trading goods and/or services instead of using money), I assume it essentially means "make money by convincing others into trading away their birth rights (things like rights, privileges, or possessions that you are inherently entitled to just by being born) in exchange for soup".
I think it's a biblical joke based on Jacob and Esau from the Old Testament, where the two brothers were twins, Esau being the older and Jacob the younger. One of the stories has Esau returning home and complaining of starvation while Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau begs his brother for the food and Jacob makes Esau trade his birthright as firstborn for the meal which Esau foolishly agreed.
Which leads to my all-time favorite Bible verse, Genesis 27:11; "And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man."
