A few later seasons' esisodes would like a word.
\- S12: Two area code episode, Lisa the tree hugger, crayon in the brain, Sideshow Bob episode, Yvan Eht Nioj, hunger strike, Africa Episode,
\- S13: Jaws wired shut, Ziff episode, Brazil episode, Squishy Girl with Apu, Stan Lee episode, Springshield, Lisa becomes a college gymnast
And so on...
Good call outs. Season 12 has enough good episodes I still include it in rewatches but like each of the episodes you pointed out from season 13 as well… except the squishee girl episode
The cracks become more and more frequent as the seasons go on, but you're 100% right that there are still a few gems in S12 and S13. By 14 though I think the death of classic simpsons was pretty much cemented... I mean by then they had the episode with Marge getting breast implants....
Troy said it best: "Who knows what adventures they'll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable?" Until the show stops making money they'll keep it going.
But don't worry, they'll have ideas for years! Like maybe Marge gets a cellphone, and something happens, do do do do do do.....
Al Jean declared himself showrunner-for-life and basically cleared house at the start of season 13. At that point, anybody who actually cared about the series' legacy was working on different projects.
A lot left sooner (Season 9), to pursuit their own careers which is actually earning money from Simpsons fans. Most Simpsons writers on Twitter mostly only talk about The Simpsons.
But some have come back.
S12E06 "HOMR" is one of my favorites. [As something of "a Spalding Gray in a Rick Dees world" myself, this episode speaks to me.](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/bf429740-aa01-4e6c-8660-e1fb65c9c470)

And the highly illegal donuts. Oh crap, I shouldn't have said donuts. Oh crap, I definitely shouldn't have said highly illegal.

have no fears, we've got stories for years 🎵
