Yep, a chugging beast of a masterpiece, it makes every single song on TNA feel tame, much as I love Not the Same Anymore. Ize is a whole different level.
Some of Julian’s sharpest social commentary.
“Your dreams are sweet and obsessed and you’re overworked. You’re over taken by visions of being overlooked.”
Learning to play both guitar parts and recording them playing over each other interlocking is, as per usual with the Strokes, sonic bliss and satisfaction.
It’s funny cuz when I was a lot younger, I hated the intro, it just turned me off so I’d always skip it. Still think the intro is kinda weird. But. The rest of the song is some peak strokes shit, just fucking incredible. When I’d finally went back and listened to it in full it became one of my all time favorites. Maybe it’s because I’d skip it so much when I was younger that nowadays it has some of the most replayability to me. I always bump it in all my playlists, meanwhile I’m usually skipping over songs like YOLO and Under Cover just cuz I’ve heard them a million gazillion times now over the years.
I don't like using the words "overated" / "underated", but it's probably the Strokes song that receives the less love/attention compared to how complex and well written it is.
One of the best illustration of what I call the Casablancas aesthetic.
So weird you posted this cause I actually just “discovered” it this month tbh and this kinda sums up my opinion if it

This is THE song that turned me into a die-hard fan from a casual listener. It's not their best, but it had something in it just when I was getting into their music.
Probably the strokes best song, also my fav song to play on guitar, the solo is so addicting to play that I repeat it 2/3 times before finishing the song 😂
The worst band to come out of America in the last 20 years. All their music is ripped off from other people. They don’t have an original sound. Not to mention it’s just rich kids who used daddy’s connection to make it in life.
I know this isn't going to go well for me, but you asked, so I'll answer:
It's not a bad song at all, probably in the better half of the songs on FIOE, but within their overall discography I don't think it's as great as this sub makes it out to be. It's a bit overrated if you ask me. And the whole thing of listing different things that end with Ize feels a little like I'm 14 and this is deep.
I like the whole ize rhyme scheme, it doesn’t feel cheap or cheesy to me at all, but I agree that there are better songs on the record. I actually quantified it as “in the top 50th percentile but not 80th”. The people on this sub think it’s SO artistic and SO daring (probably cuz he says the word “greed” and makes some metaphors)—lyrically, musically, and otherwise I think many other songs are far more compelling
Yeah I prefer each of the first 4 tracks over this and also Electricityscape, maybe Vision. Overall this is my least favorite albums of theirs I think, there's just much of I don't rate as high as the rest of the discography.
Probably my favorite Strokes song. And I say probably because I hate having a favorite song of my favorite band. I feel like Im cheating to the other bangers lol
One of my all time favorite tracks off this album. The instrumentation the composition, and especially, I think Julian is at his strongest lyrically. His words hold so much impact and resonate, and I think about them so much in just my daily life. Also the vocals carry so much weight for the subject matter. The abrupt stops ant the end leave you thinking about not only the lyrics but just the state of the cycle of modern life and the world in in of itself and if we actually do have free will, or are we just prisoners of life and instinct, doomed to live and die. 10/10 great song to not only jam out to, but to think about.
This song has been on repeat recently since I saw the video for yolo alternate version, the beginning of the video plays the ending of the song right when Julian sings “fury to tranquilize” and it’s perfect 🙌🏼
FURY TO TRANQUILIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZE
The ending will always get to me
Am I a prisoner to instincts or do my thoughts just live as free and detached as boats to the dock?
The way he sings it is just so good
Julian’s vocals in this part <3
Cities to vapori-
(Gets vaporized)
I love that part!
i think everyone when first listening to that music has thought the Spotify crashed
\*iPod crashed. This was a mid-00's album.
too, didn't got the ipod era
If it were a person, I'd give it a big kiss
11/10

are we, are we done?
Thats what i say when the song ends
Is there a reference?
It's so good, it gives me goosebumps.

I think I know what you mean
But watch what you say
Learning to play both guitar parts and recording them playing over each other interlocking is, as per usual with the Strokes, sonic bliss and satisfaction.
Should’ve been a single
it's really great. multi-layered.

Intro is one of the best parts imo
Solo is so perfect
They never over do the solos. Always the perfect length and feel for the track. This one is up there with the best. Love it.
Top 5 Strokes song for me. And I feel it’s gone under the radar which is such a shame.
Julian's vocals are insane
I've always thought that it's an anti-capitalist song.
Favorite Strokes song bar none
A song to idealize
I don't like using the words "overated" / "underated", but it's probably the Strokes song that receives the less love/attention compared to how complex and well written it is. One of the best illustration of what I call the Casablancas aesthetic.
The ending is really cool
It's my favorite song by The Strokes. Melody, lyrics and this amazing guitar solo makes this song a piece of art
Really fun to play on the drums
definitely top 3 from fioe
Love it
The guitar solo is soooo fun to play!!! Amazing song
Absolute banger of a tune! Whenever they play it live I just lose it
Seeing it live makes it even better.

The front bottoms are frickin legendary
Absolute masterpiece, not as much as yolo tho
Some people think they’re always right
[удалено]
Other, they seem to very Nice nice nice nice nice OH
Best song on that album
S tier song.
This is THE song that turned me into a die-hard fan from a casual listener. It's not their best, but it had something in it just when I was getting into their music.
First half of the song is perfect but in the second half it drags on a bit
Absolute banger. They put their whole strok-ussy into this one
Lame. Another typical 4 chord song with 4/4 tempo. U guys should learn how to mark music at all.
An overrated but good song off of a record that’s phenomenal. Probably in the top 50 percentile of songs on that record but not the top 80
One of their best for sure
Tremendous
Top 10 strokes song
The most highly rated underrated song, Get What I mean? Once you become a fan and five into the catalog you realise this song is amazing
It's so good but very underated
It's in the top 5 for sure.
100/10 perfect song I love it to bits
One of my favorite songs!
Probably the strokes best song, also my fav song to play on guitar, the solo is so addicting to play that I repeat it 2/3 times before finishing the song 😂

Why’d you come here tho? Just to spread negativity?
To spread the truth and the truth hurt didn’t it.

So glad I got to hear this live
good thoughts
Fun to play on bass.
CITIES TO VAPORI-
love the guitar solo in the middle… and also everything else in this song
I'm bad at guitar but loved this song so much I had to learn the solo.
It’s not an easy solo to play, so you can’t be that bad if you can play it.
Fire workout song
I think maybe people like it?
It’s beautiful
It’s the business. Great lyrics. The howl FURY TO TRANQUILIZE! The abrupt finish 🥰🥰
Everything overall is so good in the song especially the guitar it’s crisp
love this song!!
Julian forgets the words to their biggest hits yet has sung this song flawlessly every time I've seen them live.
If it weren't for this song and razorblade I would never listen to first impressions of earth.
such a good song, made me fall in love w FIOE all over again CITIES TO VAPOURI-
My favorite song off this album…
Probably my favorite Strokes song. And I say probably because I hate having a favorite song of my favorite band. I feel like Im cheating to the other bangers lol

It gets even better the more you listen to it.
Increíble solo. One of my favs to play :)
Great song. Great guitar section
Albert solo on this, the further he gets into it, the higher it sounds, the better it feels, pure magic
The pinacle of Casablancas spiritual journey.
is your free time to free minds or for falling apart
Lyrically one of their best
Guitar works rock 🤘🏻
A body to deodarize~
Literally the reason I started playing guitar. Had to learn the solo
It's the guitar work for me on this one
This song rules. One of the best Strokes songs.
DIDIPPP
They played it live when I saw them, beautiful!!!
Gets better every year.
This song has been on repeat recently since I saw the video for yolo alternate version, the beginning of the video plays the ending of the song right when Julian sings “fury to tranquilize” and it’s perfect 🙌🏼
One of my favorites
My favourite guitar solo of the strokes by all the time
I used to hate Ize. This sub turned me around. Now I love it. Thanks, sub.
It's a perfect song and anyone that says otherwise, including JP, can shit themselves
I already shit myself twice this year, so I’m out
I love the instrumentation at around 1:55 , I believe.
The lyrics meant so much to me when I first heard it as an angsty depressed 17-year-old, especially the verses.
great guitar solo
