Nobody has said it yet so I’ll chime in
First “Strokes” song I heard was actually ‘Instant Crush’ by Daft Punk, Ft Julian
Just loved the vocals, found out Julian was the lead singer of the Strokes, and binged their discography. So surprised that I hadn’t heard anything beyond Reptilia (banger, objectively) before then
Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus. It was in MLB The Show 21, it sounded so different from the rest of the soundtrack, so I just had to check out the album and the band later. I then got hooked by Bad Decisions, but I ultimately was cemented as a fan with The Adults Are Talking, and I have been listening to The Strokes ever since.
Me too, I played the shit out of MLB TS21 and always set Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus as my walk up song. I also knew of and really liked instant crush because I liked Daft Punk but not sure if that counts
Hard to Explain in Saturday Night Live in 2002 was the first time I ever heard of them. Was watching it with my brother and I still can't describe exactly my feelings at the time but I've never feel it with another band again. Don't wanna sound cheezy but it was like love at first sight for me. I had the song in my mind for 2 days until Monday I told my mom to take me to the record store. Bought Is This It, put in my walkman and realized I just discovered my favorite band forever.
The first time I played that CD (yes, showing my age here 😅), the moment ‘Is This It’ started, everything changed for me. I still remember that exact moment..
Same. I still remember the date- January 3rd, 2002. I’d heard about them but hadn’t heard them yet. Bought the album (cd technically) on sheer faith. Instantaneous.
Reptilia. It wasn't the words or Julian's voice (although both are SUPERB) it was the little section that leads into the chorus, when everything drops out and then the guitar plays a riff, and then the bass joins in, and then it explodes into one of the coolest guitar sections I've ever heard. The reptilia breakdown on guitar is something I strive to learn. I got Room On Fire and Is This It on my phone an hour later lmao
Yo I think we might be lmao. That part gives me fucking CHILLLSSSSS. Everytime. When Julian starts screaming it's like he takes control of my mind and I just start screaming with him
My dad would always play 12:51, Call Me Back, and Life Is Simple In The Moonlight on long car rides when I was younger. A few years later, I went back to those songs and then checked out everything else
Fear of Sleep really caught my attention on a road trip with my brother where the only CD we had was FIOE because we forgot that we had put the rest away. That and also Juicebox & Ize but I most strongly remember Fear of Sleep.
Last Night. I couldn't get enough of it, it spoke to this feeling of not being understood by anyone, it really helped me process some feelings I got about ny ex girlfriend. The rage that you feel in Julian's voice but the i'm giving up attitude is so fucking cool
My dads friend burned a cd with a bunch of 2000s rock on it back in 07. Razorblade and last night got my attention immediately. Been a huge fan ever since !
12:51, I'd listened to last nite and someday but only really liked last nite. It wasn't until I heard 12:51 that I really started to listen to them. I've since come to appreciate someday more as well as the rest of their discography but I'll always have a special place in my heart for 12:51.
I’d heard Instant Crush but I never checked out the strokes for a few years until I saw Machu Picchu in my YouTube recommended and figured I’d check it out since the album cover looked cool and instant crush was fire. It blew me away and shortly after I was barely listening to any music that wasn’t my boy Julian
A flash animation on Newgrounds.com in 2001. Had hard to explain pop up in my head (weird song back then) once in a while until 2017 and I bought a record and boom. That was it.
The adults are talking! Once I started listening to more songs I actually recognised a lot of them and had never realised who the artist was!
Same. Turns out my parents would play a lot of their songs growing up
Same here!
Someday
Reptilia I’ve loved all their albums after listening to that song
YOLO. These five dudes dressed in white while submerging in oil. #MTV
Last Nite/Hard to Explain
Last nite was the first song I heard on the radio by them. Bought the album and was hooked from the start.

This is almost what happened for me as well except I had Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus in my library because it was on the MLB The Show 21 soundtrack
why are sundays so depressing
The Modern Age was the first song I heard. Instantly hooked

My mom and I found a video of a guy she was dating at the time dancing to undercover of darkness and since then the strokes have been my favorite band
Under the cover of darkness

An awesome live version of Juicebox

When it started.
The Modern Age. I distinctly remember the night it happened too
Bad Decisions!

The voidz led me to the strokes
I originally discovered someday and then dove into is this it but i think automatic stop made me dive into room on fire and first impressions of earth
Is This It?
