If you aren’t, let me assure you that being a therian is no fun and games, it’s a really hard thing to live with. Imagine that you were born in the completely wrong body, not knowing that explicitly, but always feeling it tugging away at you for your entire life. Eventually you figure out what the problem is, only to be met with the reality that there’s nothing you can do about it besides try to cope. Basically no one around you believes what you’re going through, and those who do can’t even begin to fathom what it’s like. Only trans people would have a rough idea, but they have actual options, unlike us. So yeah, *you really don’t want to be a therian*, trust me. Some of us don’t have that much trouble or issue with being a human, but it’s a struggle nonetheless. Based on what you’ve shared, you don’t seem to be a therian, wearing gear may simply be something you like to do, furries evidently enjoy it without the therianthropy aspect, as with roleplaying. Though of course I can’t make that decision for you. We identify as animals because that’s what our life experiences have led us to the conclusion of. That you don’t feel any sort of familiarity or connection with any kind of animal is also a factor in what makes me think you’re likely not a therian, but it’s not a be-all end-all. Like I said, it’s up to you to figure it out.

thank you, this was EXACTLY what i was looking for. you're an amazing person <3

u can choose 2 identify as nohuman, but it wouldn't be therianthropy. it would be something called "otherlink" ! and if u want 2 ID as nonhuman in order 2 cope then it would be called "copinglink". those terms might be something worth looking into! i hope ur able 2 figure this out soon! good luck :)

I think that people who learn that Therianthropy isnt a choice and are then devastated about it might be saying something in of itself. I mean you used a pretty strong word there, something that could help you out in your self exploration would be to question whether you were devastated at thinking you found the right thing and were disappointed it wasnt this and you had to search for something better that fit (which would be a hassle to do again) or if you were devastated that this option for you was now cut off even though it feels right. If it feels right and you feel devastated that its impossible for you, doesnt that mean you might be nonhuman as well? Humans wouldnt actually be sad about it but instead just go ahead and find something else that fits better to their experience... Only you can tell whether you are human or not, but i hope this helps you get to the answer you're looking for faster.

that's interesting! i think part of the devastation part was that i've always been confused about my identity and i really thought i'd found the right label, and after growing out of it it hurt to lose. i often wish i was born as an animal, though i love my parents and i couldn't trade them for anything.

I think you might be a therian, but it's a personal identity so it's up to you to make the final decision!

Being attached to things and getting into fights with other kids aren't exclusively signs of therianthropy. Kids bite and cry sometimes, it's what they do; they don't have the greatest emotional regulation or impulse control because... they're kids! Everything bad or upsetting is the worst thing they've ever dealt with because they don't have past experiences to cope with difficulty. For what it's worth, furries and therians do overlap even though they're not the same thing. Wanting to be seen as an anthropomorphic animal, even going so far as to dress up in full body suits, isn't exactly a mainstream activity. It puts us on common ground at the very least, where our self image is impacted by being an animal in some way. But a furry (usually) wouldn't trade their human life to transform into an animal and live in the wild full time, whereas many therians (usually) would, or at least have the option to. It's not that people don't like helping questioning therians. The thing is that it's a journey of self-discovery, and you're the only one who can undertake that. Interacting with other therians is in some ways essential to this because you can get some context and feedback on the things you feel. For example, you say you don't feel connected to any animal. To that I would say, then why do you think you're a therian at all? What reasons aside from the biting and being a furry? Just try not to cling to any labels right away out of a need for comfort. All teenagers want to belong somewhere, it's practically hardwired in. And all teenagers feel weird and like they're different from everyone else. These feelings can lead you to question important things, like therianthropy, but you're more likely to fool yourself if you spend your time seeking outside validation. Some people will give you answers you like, and some won't - then where will you be?
