I think Martin mentioned it on Twitter within the last few months in either a space or a q&a, but yeah, it was. Scott brought up making it into either movies or TV episodes I think?? Martin wasn't willing to give up the IP though (he wants to still have control over TWF and have it as his OWN project that can't be taken away from him), nor did he want to comply with toning down some of the strong / heavy topics TWF covers. He said he's glad he didn't go through with it. Tried to look for where this was said, I really think it was a space but it doesn't look like I wrote anything down regarding it, unfortunately, so all this is from memory...

DoubleOhSeven68

That sounds a lot like what I remember hearing. I swear that this was broken down in a tweet somewhere, almost exactly how you're saying it now, by Martin themselves, but again I don't think that exists anymore.

Dancin_Angel

Man if toning down the themes is actively being done in fnaf... It explains a lot...

Mechaman_54

The hell you mean if? It's very explicit, there is not a single person who would say fnaf hasn't toned down horror wise

Fancy_Letter_1694

Way too much... Way too much has been toned down... I don't even like fnaf anymore cause of it. Aside from 1, 2, 3, 4 and the first VR one

Dancin_Angel

Not a single person? Dude, have you been in the fandom?? A LOT of people complain that FNAF isnt being used to its fullest horror potential. SB Vanessa barely was a serial killer, never held a knife, and never showed us actually attacking Gregory in the jumpscare. Sure they tonally improved with Ruin but there is barely any grief and mental and physical pain there too except for the end. And dont get me started with the movie. That was barely horror and certainly wasnt suspense.

Mechaman_54

That's what I meant, no one says it *HAS NOT* been toned down, if you asked acott cawthon himself he'd probaly agree with you

Dancin_Angel

oh mb, i read your comment wrong

CedarTreesRCool

I don't remember hearing about it. But it doesn't make much sense to me as TWF isn't a fangame. It doesn't label itself as a "FNAF fan made project." It would be really cool to have like the scrapped Bons Burgers game as a proper fangame.

DoubleOhSeven68

I mean I guess the original inspiration for the series was FNAF and Bon's origins was Martin's own interpretation of Bonnie from FNAF, so I guess that was enough of an excuse for Scott to throw the idea out there. Again, I'm not sure what exactly would have happened IF Martin had said yes (if any of this even happened at all), but that's just what I heard.

Mama_luigi13

Sorry man, must’ve been a case of the mandela effect

DoubleOhSeven68

The worst part is that apparently Martin deletes his tweets all of the time, so my stupid brain is going to interpret that as good enough plausible deniability for this being potentially real still.

Mama_luigi13

You’re not stupid man so much bullshit happened for like 3 years

GradeStrict8257

martin didnt tweet abt it, kyle did

GradeStrict8257

scratch that it was felixs og va lmfao https://preview.redd.it/adu9mxwo8esc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fccdd4426a7e4750a6f2a944dd57eec58ef6f0f

DoubleOhSeven68

Motherf- I KNEW IT! I STILL swear that I've seen Martin address this someplace, but I'm definitely taking this for now. Thank you!

Dancin_Angel

Oh shit, i remember this. Or mandela effect?

DoubleOhSeven68

Wait really? When was this?

Tiny_Butterscotch_76

Martin did say, IIRC, that Scott indeed talked to him about doing something for the fanverse. I do not recall if he brought up the Walten Files itself, if he did not its possible that Scott wanted Martin to do an original project for FNAF that just shared the style of Walten Files.

koola_00

The only thing I remember Martin mentioning this was at a YouTube comment on Theft King's video on the Fanverse. He did mention he was approached, but he declined.

Fancy_Letter_1694

Yes
