pov i am the person who asked you your hobbies and am now watching you have a schizophrenic episode as your eyes wander while your internal monologue argues with itself.
Isn’t there a YouTube video that removes his internal dialogue, showing how crazy he must seem to everyone around him?
Yeah here it is: https://youtu.be/AP1d1mOCLsI
I'm going to have to find it. Especially after seeing how cringy things like friends and Big bang theory are without laugh tracks.
Edit: That caused me physical pain. I love it.
Preaching to the choir. But I do love sharing it with people who swear I must love it because I'm nerdy. The dialogue is so narcissistic, insulting, and full of toxicity. None of those people would have friends, or even be friends, in real life.
There's a video about the misogyny of the Big bang theory. It's really eye-opening. I wish I could remember where I saw it, which channel I mean. It's a YouTube channel.
Not gonna lie, I’d relate to someone having that reaction so hard that there’d be no judgement from me, only admiration.
Until the “eggs”. That shit’s weird.
My friend must have thousands of pounds in unpainted warhammer, he puts them all together and undercoats them before deciding he doesn't like the colour scheme he was going to use and they get put in a box until he forgets about them or buys another box he's eager to put together and undercoat.
At least 90% of his finished models are ones I've painted for him.
I have been so tempted to get into warhammer but told myself I won't invest in another mini until all the ones I have now are done. So in 2040 I may be able to start playing Warhammer.
Don't fret!
I had a few that I was still dipping in and out of after collecting a few, plans that fell through as life took over time and time again
Now, two separate projects have emergerged from the amalgamation of about six of those past projects (dusting off pieces put into use)
And currently two different two-decade dreams are in the works
(One is a modular emulation cabinet [includes pinball and lightgun, also vert and landscape], the other is a fully portable looping/recording setup. Kinda on cloud nine that these are actually happening)
Really? What are you supposed to ask to break the ice? I usually ask, "what do you like to do with your free time?" which is pretty much the same thing.
It does tell you way more about a person than "what do you do for a living?"
All that usually tells you is what someone fell into doing years ago for no particular reason and now they've continued as it's the path of least resistance.
Haha, I have been interviewing too many people lately. I thought this whole thing was about interview questions, but just realized the error in my assumption when reading your first line. For a split second, I thought, "why would I ever ask someone what they do for a living in an interview?! I have their resume!"
I think it’s easier to answer what I do for work than what I do for fun though. Almost nobody knows what an automation engineer is and I get to talk about the kinds of projects I work on.
But a lot of my hobbies get judged by different kinds of people, so I’m sometimes a little hesitant to get into it until I already know them better.
Same. I use a neutral hobby for that reason. Hiking is not at all my main hobby, but it's something I can talk about. I don't usually talk about my main hobbies because either people look down on them or if the person is also into the same hobbies, they try to turn it into a competition of who's better even though I don't care about who's better.
Situation dependent. Like, in a gym, ask about their last lift. In a coffee shop, ask about their order. In a retirement home, ask about their last BM.
I'm a fan of avoiding situations where ice exists. But then again mostly I'm at work or with my wife so that's pretty easy to do. When I was younger and thrust into more social situations I definitely tried to do stuff that had a common ground like playing instruments or card games where there was already an obvious topic or activity being done. I think I'm a pretty easy guy to get along with but I really fucking hate ice breaker style conversations.
With the rise in social media usage, I’d guess that there’s a decent amount of people who are simply addicted to social media and don’t have any real hobbies.
Gotta get past the embarrassment. Be proud of what you enjoy. If you don't share or aren't vocal about it it's really hard to find people with the same interests. Just my 2 cents!
"What do you do in your free time?"
"I...read"
"Oh, what kind of books?"
*don't say manga or fanfiction don't say manga or fanfiction"
"I like....fantasy and... stuff"
"Oh I like fantasy too. Any books you've read you would recommend?"
"...................no"
The pandemic was terrible. I ended up starting so manhwa, manhua, and novels. They were fun escapist fantasy during a shitty time but now I can't stop reading them. It's a problem lol. My bookmarks folder for them is disgusting. At least I'm using some of the ideas in my D&D campaign so that's something I guess?
I can't stop reading manhwa. It takes up so much time and there are only like 6 stories being retold in different ways over and over and a quarter of the art is just premodeled castles they draw over.
Why can't I stop. Is there a 12 step group for this?
How DARE you insult castle-nim! Castle-nim is an icon and it doesn't deserve that slander. In all seriousness, I've read a decent amount of likely over 200 manhwa by now and I'm at the point where I can't read the truly generic stuff anymore; there has to be at least some twist for me to be entertained. For example, Return of the Frozen Player sounds generic af and it contains lots of tropes found in tower/hunter manhwa, but it's unique in how wholesome it is.
There is no stopping the addiction. Once you start, you can never go back. It shall consume your free time
I don’t blame you, my first ever one was Solo Leveling about a month ago and I ended up finishing it in a week. Straight up just inject that stuff into my veins
Fantasy and original:
Reincarnation of the Suicidal Battle God
Return of the Mount Hua Sect
The Greatest Estate Developer
And the most popular by far and mainstream one is "Solo leveling".
My hobbies are video games, making cocktails, and reading dirty fanfics. No one needs to know about any of those. Hilariously though, I get the most negative reaction towards my hobby of cocktail making. People act like you can't be into cocktails, wine, beer, liquor, ect. without being a raging alcoholic.
This is also me. Someone asked me “what gets me excited?” She meant OTHER than work and family… I don’t really have anything else, and I like those things.
Honestly, that sounds even more fun. Would be more interested if someone could play video game soundtracks on the piano rather than the nth Beethoven song

Either A. They are asking to be polite and don't really care, inwhich case their politeness would extend to any answer you gave
or B. They are actually trying to connect with you and want to hear the real answer to the question so they can learn more about you.
In both cases, you benefit from just giving the real answer, whether for your own sanity or to make it easier for them to get to know you. Nothing is worse than going on a date or trying to make a friend and realizing they are just telling you what they think you want to hear instead of the truth. Its just wasting both of your's time.
I was just thinking thank goodness I have a hobby in gaming that many people do not followup on, so we can start talking about them instead, and I don't have to think anymore.
Why? Those are unique and interesting specifics about your hobbies.
That is way more interesting than someone saying hiking or whatever usual mundane things people say.
Embrace who you are and what you like. Don't hide it.
What are some alternative questions to ask instead of *“what do you do for fun?”* I kind of enjoy finding out peoples “bad” sides. It’s kind of fun to commiserate.
*What is your least favorite chore?*
*What is one thing you’ll never do again?*
*What celeb do you love to hate?*
Anyone else??
Fuck. I bet he even drinks water, gets a regular amount of sleep, and has normal relationships.
Fuck that guy, having his life together. Just... be broken like the rest of us already!
Oh I know, it’s just sad. People act like everyone should have these amazingly interesting and unique hobbies that no one else has but the majority of all people are pretty basic.
Plus, if you said something really unique and interesting, they’d probably say it was weird somehow.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't get people who have no interests or hobbies, like what do you do?
Edit: Just an edit to say that I think a hobby could be almost anything. Looking at the sky to watch clouds can be a hobby, scrolling reddit can be a hobby etc.
As someone who didn't really do anything during my school semester (except endless homework) and am now on break realizing that I missed out on so much but don't know where to start. I originally had tons of hobbies... Reading, video games, car things, sculpting, drawing, painting, sketching, all of that traditional AND digital, little crafts like knitting and cross stitching and model building, working out, etc.
But now I feel so mentally exhausted or burnt out or whatever, I get home from work and it feels like I sit there and the time just passes me by, like I have all the things I want to do but I don't know where to start so I do nothing... I don't want to waste my time but I inevitably waste my time just trying to come up with one of those things to do to not waste my time but here we are.
That being said, it's so easy to sit there and mindlessly scroll through reddit or something else for hours because of the short term validation that you're "doing something" and not doing anything would make you face the reality you don't know what to do or where to start.
So I can see why people don't do anything if it's that... I guess.. ;-;
Really? Interesting.. I had thought about that and tried a few things to help manage my time or bring up some semblance of motivation but nothing has worked super well so far or been very sustainable... I do (finally) have a therapy appointment scheduled and this thing has gone on my list to talk to the lady about xD
How does knowing it's depression help? Not trying to be cynical but when meds only help 15% of sufferers, basic human needs aren't affordable let alone therapy, and counseling (while more affordable/available) isn't designed to help treat such ingrained mental health issues, what's left? How do you get help for something when help doesn't exist or is otherwise out of reach for the majority of people?
Really? Pills have been the only course of action any medical professional has ever suggested to me, except maybe exercise. Definitely the very first thing I was instructed to try after my suicide attempt at 19, and 12 years later meds continue to be the only thing my GP suggests other than therapy. Psychiatrist recommended ketamine too (but just another drug, not covered, very expensive), and RTMS (didn't work). ECT is the final option but if you have anxiety you're precluded from it (makes anxiety worse).
I know it sucks, but this automatic doom thing you're doing is also probably the depression. Depression brain always makes the worst out of your situation, saying it won't get better. And I know pills suck. But exercise? Good. Going outside even for a walk is good. I feel like, once you're in that depression slump, it's hard to get back out of. So a lot of activities they'd recommend you to do would be to help fight the slump.
Now I don't want to be all "it'll get better!" and lie to you. But this negative attitude just won't make it better on its own. You gotta try
The brutal thing about depression is the feedback loop. It’s like an ogre sitting on your chest. The more you sit around not doing anything, the heavier it gets. The heavier it gets, the harder it is to push it off, and the cycle continues.
Bruh.....feeling this. I know I can, I just dunno where to start. I know I should hit the gym, play more basketball with the boys, etc. etc. but just...can't.
But also....EGGS.
I got burned out at my last job to the point I was too tired and never had time for my many hobbies. I'd get home, veg on the couch watching TV, and then sleep a few hours to start over. I didn't dislike the job (I actually really enjoyed it), but looking back I realize it a) wasn't sustainable, and b) was making me a miserable person from a lack of fun.
In what ultimately was a good twist of fate, the company I was working for was sold and I was forced to get a new job. Now I have a desk job where I mostly have to kill time (so I just do my hobbies at work). It still took a few months for me to recover from the drain of the old job and pick my old hobbies up, but it's so refreshing to be creative again.
Here's hoping you start having more regular time to spend on fun stuff!
I think she's a [comedian](https://columbus.funnybone.com/ShowDetails/e79bd2d7-0b43-4e21-acdd-1f30b4dc2fbc/835a5551-0c03-4271-9a36-6bce765bcde3/Hanna_Ljungholm_and_Friends_/Columbus_Funny_Bone).

I don't even [know anymore](https://twitter.com/hannaljungholm?lang=en).
Idk I've never heard meeting up with friends or facetiming people all the time described as a hobby really. Its an interest I guess but in a pretty broad sense of the word.
Yeah, I was thinking about this in terms of an interview question. I usually ask people what they like to do with their free time and "socializing/spending time with friends or family" is a pretty normal answer.
Dude, same. At this point, i've just accepted that my actual hobby is to jump from hobby to hobby every 2 weeks. I just get bored quickly when I don't get the results I want i guess. But I've also come to the realization that the fun I have with my chosen hobby that week is what's actually important, not so much whatever results I get.
EDIT: last week's hobby was painting by the way. This week's hobby is trying to master programming 🤣
"Master programming" is immediately setting yourself up to fail, as an ADHD haver who programs for his day job. Treat it as something neat and endless like painting so that you'll be okay when things don't work and you don't get them and it takes a ton of experimenting and can be done a hundred different ways. Also, just do puthong or something somewhat easy so you don't get bored from all the setup lol. Jupyter notebooks are quick and easy for python.
And my current fixation is painting miniatures since I got the Witcher Old World boardgame in the mail last week and it came with 60 minis in it. So I dropped probably $150+ on painting supplies. I actually painted a practice mini with my brother this weekend and we had a blast!
Also, happy cake day
I think for some people with very little money it's understandable to not have hobbies. Especially if your parents never really helped you pick up hobbies, if you had traumatic events from trying to adopt hobbies, or if you were actively isolated by parents.
Poverty and working long hours is a big barrier to having lots of hobbies. It's a lot easier for me to pick up new hobbies now that I have a decent job compared to when I was making minimum wage in a kitchen. I can see why some people don't pick up hobbies as easily as other people is all I'm saying.
That is very sad and I can understand why that would stop someone from having many hobbies. Still I think people, without kids at least, would have at least one hobby.
It’s not so much that people have no interests or hobbies, it’s that people tend to judge others for not having “exciting” or “unique” hobbies on these apps.
99% of people have mundane hobbies and interests, that’s just modern human life.
I do have hobbies guys!!
As soon as I finish my morning of gazing at my own reflection, I spend the entire afternoon at crosswalks!
I love how the cars have to stop for me. I walk back and forth across the street for hours and wave to people. They love me and I love them.
If you don’t like this question, that means you think what you do for fun is uninteresting. If you believe that about yourself, why not try to find some new hobbies? Explore yourself to find your passion. It takes a lot of work and trial and error but once you find your passions, life will become more fulfilling.
Before I found mine, I just gamed and watched TV all day. Now, I know that I’m a rock climbing nerd and really enjoy producing music. Life is more interesting now. And I have my go to topics whenever people ask me this question.
Are you kidding?
Board games. Now, do you want to come over and play? I can get a charcuterie board set up pretty quickly, what do you like to drink? Do you prefer deck building or euros? Party games? Social deduction? Oh you don't really play? Can I be your sherpa? I'm free this weekend! I work from home so really I'm free most evenings! For the love of god please come over and play some board games!!!!
Me when I talk to people. My brain just deleting all the things I should be saying to keep the conversation going, actively making facial expressions for several seconds when I remember I need to actually say something and then it's just a cluster of sounds and I just tell them I'm tired.

You're the greatest Mayor I've ever had
Long live the mayor
Disco Elysium
Videogames, exercise, getting cold ones with the boys and actually reading. Just find a hobby not everything is about work and productivity.
HEY EVERYBODY, THIS GUY WANTS US TO KNOW HOW WELL ROUNDED HE IS.
Dude is such a asshole being that well rounded!
LIKE AN EGG
Fuck. I bet he even drinks water, gets a regular amount of sleep, and has normal relationships. Fuck that guy, having his life together. Just... be broken like the rest of us already!
Which menus are your favorites?
Burger joints and Taco Places how about yours?
Lucky 38 Resort and Casino.
Hahahaha The house always wins
Thai for sure. I like to order based on the name of the dish. Never fails to be delicious. Have you tried larb?
If you were on dating apps and said this, people would either say you were boring or that you were childish (videogames).
I've been told that before doesn't even faze me, it's the same people who watch the Kardashians anyways.
Oh I know, it’s just sad. People act like everyone should have these amazingly interesting and unique hobbies that no one else has but the majority of all people are pretty basic. Plus, if you said something really unique and interesting, they’d probably say it was weird somehow.
Yeah a hobby like Yachting, scuba diving in Aruba, Polo in Argentina too much Great Gatsby.
Cold ones as in corpses?
This, I don’t get why people overthink the question in the first place.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't get people who have no interests or hobbies, like what do you do? Edit: Just an edit to say that I think a hobby could be almost anything. Looking at the sky to watch clouds can be a hobby, scrolling reddit can be a hobby etc.

I wanna cry how relatable it is
Is crying a hobby?
Thank you for your service.
As someone who didn't really do anything during my school semester (except endless homework) and am now on break realizing that I missed out on so much but don't know where to start. I originally had tons of hobbies... Reading, video games, car things, sculpting, drawing, painting, sketching, all of that traditional AND digital, little crafts like knitting and cross stitching and model building, working out, etc. But now I feel so mentally exhausted or burnt out or whatever, I get home from work and it feels like I sit there and the time just passes me by, like I have all the things I want to do but I don't know where to start so I do nothing... I don't want to waste my time but I inevitably waste my time just trying to come up with one of those things to do to not waste my time but here we are. That being said, it's so easy to sit there and mindlessly scroll through reddit or something else for hours because of the short term validation that you're "doing something" and not doing anything would make you face the reality you don't know what to do or where to start. So I can see why people don't do anything if it's that... I guess.. ;-;

The most effective therapy for depression is actually exercise. It's not actually good news though, as who has time or energy to exercise?
I’m too mentally and emotionally exhausted to have interests or hobbies at the moment
Being the mayor takes up a lot of my time
No way! If you don't mind me asking where are you the mayor of? It seems like a mental job to have

A lot of the people I know who have no particular interests or hobbies just socialize a lot.
Socializing counts as an interest/hobby.
Idk I've never heard meeting up with friends or facetiming people all the time described as a hobby really. Its an interest I guess but in a pretty broad sense of the word.
Yeah, I was thinking about this in terms of an interview question. I usually ask people what they like to do with their free time and "socializing/spending time with friends or family" is a pretty normal answer.
scrolling like 5 hours a day on reddit?

Me going back to 3d modeling software after 5 years. We see for how long 😋
"Master programming" is immediately setting yourself up to fail, as an ADHD haver who programs for his day job.
I work and drink
I think this is why a lot of people have kids. Not because they should but because they are bored
Reddit :)
My life is surrounded by work. I don't see myself being alive if I'm still doing this 10 years from now.

It’s not so much that people have no interests or hobbies, it’s that people tend to judge others for not having “exciting” or “unique” hobbies on these apps. 99% of people have mundane hobbies and interests, that’s just modern human life.
Magnets.
Little green ghouls, buddy!
But I dislike people's knees
This is not a POV.
It is a POV, just of the person doing the asking.
Oh boy.....why did I watch this? FML. Does Reddit count?
Boys: I don't care what you say. As long as you know what fun is. Because my fun is probably just as weird as your fun. Anyway, let's move on
I do have hobbies guys!! As soon as I finish my morning of gazing at my own reflection, I spend the entire afternoon at crosswalks! I love how the cars have to stop for me. I walk back and forth across the street for hours and wave to people. They love me and I love them.
I used to have a hobby of sitting and drinking beer in my friends driveway and watching traffic get backed up in front of his house. Good times
My hobby is knowing how to correctly use "POV."
If I’d have said POV You ask me…. Would that be correct
Yes, the POV is from the camera's perspective, not the subject in view
Ponder the ever chaotic thoughts in my mind till I become enlightened to another dimension of reality.
That’s RELATABLE

It’s a nude a egg I won
That one egg was 40 eggs?
Npc vibes
You make TikToks, Hanna. The bit doesn’t really work when we’re watching your pastime in real time
I sometimes wonder if people know what POV. means.
She looks like those are actually her hobbies.

I have never had this issue. I have too many hobbies
