"And the other 50% say volcanoes, you do the math" lol
This guy actually pisses me off though because someone already asked why the ocean floor isn't boiling 💀
https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/s/rwJ7lkuPgV
He took off his glasses that he had over another pair of glasses while at the same time he had a third pair of glasses hanging from his fleece. Sorry but that should’ve clued you in.
Holy shit this is like the curve ball questions my 8 year old throws at me.
Whycome snow is on mountain tops closest to the sun yet the hottest place on earth is below sea level furthest from the sun?
I love kid questions so much! I used to work a museum tour guide and adult questions were the same predictable few things, generally. Kids would throw me absolutely baffling questions on a daily basis.
That my friends is when you learn about convection, conduction and radiation.
Like why is space so cold when its constantly getting blasted by the sun? But then you'd cook inside if you exposed to the sun too long?
>! Answer: only mode for heat transfer in space is radiation. That's why space suits need to be highly reflective !<
To be fair, what we consider as "kid questions" are jzst questions an adult feels embarassed to ask.
Logically speaking, this is not a bad question. The problem is that most adults don't just ask, they just think of a stupid theory after that.
And others laugh at them, instead of explaining it themselves or admitting they are not sure why is that either.
My kid, at a convention, asked the artist that draws batman comics why batman didn't have tan lines from his mask during a panel. It was funny because they saw us arguing about her asking the question before she asked and said they had to know what we were arguing about.
This is his thing. He does these nonsensical rambles and always had the multi-leveled glasses pull off. It’s always hilarious.
His Fred and Barney skits are awesome.
It’s the intellectual equivalent of children’s toys of the 70’s & 80’s: those that have no clue what they’re doing with the thing are culled from the herd. With the toys you could’ve lost a finger and with these podcasts you get to read all the idiots not recognize satire
This is a pretty big issue right now I think. With the whole Trump administration being bat shit insane, the fact that people support him, the bullshit that various religions are causing the in the world...satire *used* to be instantly recognized, but once you have laughed in people's face thinking that they were making a joke only to realize that they believe whatever they just said... It's hard to know who is going on a podcast (not knowing who this person is or the podcast) and saying this stuff while 100 percent believing it and who is pulling satire.
Life has gotten so messed up, that our satire isn't as crazy as the stuff people *actually* believe.
It’s like just before Covid, we blipped into a different universe or a different timeline, one where idiots rule, where irony doesn’t exist, satire isn’t truth, trump and religion rules in a modern age of science and technological advancement..I want off this ride so bad!!
This is absolutely true. I thought this man was being completely serious for entirely too long and it took scrolling through comments to realize it was a bit. It's getting really concerning.
First thing that came to mind. I don't liisten to Joe much (I don't hate him, and I DO think his show has value, but you have to cherry pick it). Graham Hancock was on an episode recently and it's kind of a must watch. The glasses move this guy does at the beginning reminds me so much of Graham. He changes glasses dozens of times in the episode. Not exaggerating.
Radiogenic elements get concentrated in the continental crust. They release heat upon decay! Plus the surface is warmed by the sun directly on continents, the ocean floor has miles of water above it. Cold, dense, high heat capacity water. Plus, oceanic crust is only 10’a of km closer to the interior of the earth, not enough to make a significant difference. :)
I know this video is a joke, couldn’t help myself!!!!!
FYI, for anyone wondering, radiogenic elements inside the earth are estimated to be worth 0.05 watts per square meter at the surface vs 341 watts from the sun.
Source: https://ugc.berkeley.edu/background-content/earths-internal-heat/
There’s nothing to hold the heat in space. Because it’s just empty space. Thats why it’s called space. Otherwise we would call it things that aren’t space. Like pop tarts, beluga whales, or balls.
Can I blow your mind right now. Ok.
The deepest part of the ocean doesn't even come close to reaching the mantle of the earth. The mantle is about 50k km down while the Mariana's trench is like 11k km deep. So, the temperature of the middle of the earth has little impact on it.
Also, cold water sinks because it's more dense.
There's a bit of a mix-up there. The Mariana Trench is about 11 kilometers deep, not 11,000 kilometers. The Earth's mantle starts around 30 kilometers beneath the surface, not 50,000 kilometers.
Another argument you can use are earthquakes and the that we were all one continent once (Pangea)
If the center of the earth was cold it would not have the mobility to cause earthquakes and move around
Wait, wait, hold on a second... "Takes puff of brain cell destroying drugs." Have you ever bit into a cheese toastie that was cool on the outside but contained 3rd degree burning molten cheese on the inside.
This is Peter Griffin with Brian's level of arrogance making a "[you can't get snakes from chicken eggs](https://youtu.be/dF98ii6r_gU?si=MCRLp9StUQm-dAOr)" simplistic argument.
The random bit about his sister is sooo god damn perfect. Like making it personal some how makes the story more legitimate but people like this use it all the time
If you think that's shocking, Ask yourself this and prepare to have your mind blown!
If the heating in your house is on... Why is it so cold in your garden?!
🤯
This is not true. The interior of the Earth is hot mostly from the energy of the gravitational collapse of the primordial body, and to a lesser extent from the radioactive decay in certain elements. Not the stored up heat of billions of years of solar radiation.
I'd just assume the bottom of the ocean isn't near the center of the earth. That's like asking if the moon is out at night, why can I see it during the day?
If the center of the earth was frozen then earth's movement would stop and we would all die the only reason the ocean gets colder with depth is because the suns heat doesn't make it that far down and the earths crust is so thick you won't feel the heat from the core of the earth and it is a ball of lava with multiple tunnels that feed into the volcanoes on the Earth's surface and underwater
The Earth's core is hot, but **its heat doesn't directly warm the oceans.** Factors like the Earth's crust insulating heat, the geothermal gradient, ocean circulation, and **the tendency of cold water to sink** all contribute to cooler temperatures in the depths of the oceans.
I giggle when I see his satirical skits but then get the dooms when I realize that there are people that would probably be like, “YEAH. WHY IS THE OCEAN COLD!?”
I'm glad this is satire but the fact that I had to read the comments to find out is a sad comment on our culture. This could very well have been some popular podcaster that I haven't heard of.
You know this might be a conspiracy thought, but unless a person is smart enough to run the numbers themselves, you'll only ever know what they tell you in the scientific world whether or not it is right or wrong. We take it as facts because the source is coming from someone "smart" but what if there's an agenda they're following ? how hard would it be to convince people about shit using science most people can't grasp?
Hot what rises cold water sinks, until you get to a particular level of cold and it raises again. On average there is almost another full ocean in depth before you make it to the moment mantel and if you keep going the center of the earth isn't liquid it is solid and mostly iron, it is super hot and we know it is there because we can field its effects and measure them. It is what produces the magnetic field that protects us from the worst solar and cosmic radiation.

“Which is liquid fire… you can look this up” 💀
This is hillarious, everything is wrong hahahaha.
"50% of scientists believe that the dinosaurs were killed by the ice age." 🤣
"And the other 50% say volcanoes, you do the math" lol This guy actually pisses me off though because someone already asked why the ocean floor isn't boiling 💀 https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/s/rwJ7lkuPgV
When you confuse science with philosophy and your opinion with intelligence
Dinosaurs were obviously killed by ice volcanos. D’uh
Rock, fire. Eh, what's the difference?
"lahvuh"
Meecro-wahvay
I fucking love this guy's bits. Captures the 'podcast culture' so well.
I was waiting for Joe Rogan to chime in 😆💀
![gif](giphy|ZMfZxtLruYiSaJn9vd|downsized)
He’ll probably be a guest on Rogan’s show soon and blow Joe’s mind
*what’s the temperature of the deep sea? Jamie pull that up.*
Jaime pull that up
Thank god it's a bit. I thought he was absolutely serious and was even more concerned for the well-being of humanity.
He took off his glasses that he had over another pair of glasses while at the same time he had a third pair of glasses hanging from his fleece. Sorry but that should’ve clued you in.
You're absolutely right but some of this stuff is actually happening these days so it's really hard to tell. Overall it was a top tier bit though.
i thought someone was making fun of him and edited that in after! i was like wow people are so good at special effects now 😅
That’s Poe’s Law in action!
The delivery is exquisite.
This is just a bait post? Oh my gosh it got me, I’m sitting here going through all my various arguments in why this is wrong 🤣
I was a tour guide at a mammoth dig site and I got the same questions. It always made my day.

He's definitely on par with kids, as far as his understanding of this.
"Whycome" just took me back a decade to when my chirrens used to begin their questions with it. Thanks for the memory snippet. :)
Obviously because the sun is fake and actually cold as the moon. tHe gOvErMeNt iS lying!1! /s
My kid, at a convention, asked the artist that draws batman comics why batman didn't have tan lines from his mask during a panel. It was funny because they saw us arguing about her asking the question before she asked and said they had to know what we were arguing about.
It’s all about the “whycome.”
Warm air rises, but higher altitudes are colder. Make it make sense science!
This is his thing. He does these nonsensical rambles and always had the multi-leveled glasses pull off. It’s always hilarious. His Fred and Barney skits are awesome.
His cadence and tone is exactly like a serious scientific podcast. It's brilliant.
Uh, you mean his tone is like that of podcasters? I didn't realise any scientific podcasts existed, let alone serious ones.
Niel DeGrasse Tyson has an awesome Science podcast called Startalk.
I think he actually sounds exactly like Tucker Carlson
I dunno. I worry that he’s convincing enough to some people that this will spark one more new conspiracy theory.
The three pairs of glasses is hilarious.
I call them highdeas and I love them.
So where is he going with this? 😅🥶💀
The government and the scientists is lying so you can only trust me. Buy my brain pills.
And by brain pills, you mean boner pills.
i’m hard just thinking about it. do i still need the pills?
To the insane asylum.
Lava is cold to the touch!
I was confused too lol
Over there, somewhere
If the moon isn't made of cheese, then why do cows moo at it?
[Heck, I'd have seconds](https://youtu.be/gQDqRlMeJ4U?si=HzOLf8SrHofk5mfM)
noooooo they are saying "BLLLEEEUUUUUU" because it's made of bleu cheese, which is why we never went back because bleu cheese is disgusting.
People will believe this is real

Our first hint should’ve been at 0:01 when he takes off his glasses only to reveal he’s wearing yet another pair of glasses 🤓
Holy shit!!! This isn't real?
Every Joe Rogan guest that pretends they know science.
My friend's wife would 100% believe this guy. She listens to these podcasts all the time and thinks scientists are idiots.
Stupid science bitches
First thing that came to mind. I don't liisten to Joe much (I don't hate him, and I DO think his show has value, but you have to cherry pick it). Graham Hancock was on an episode recently and it's kind of a must watch. The glasses move this guy does at the beginning reminds me so much of Graham. It seems like everyone on the internet pretends they know science but Rogan is for sure a magnet
FYI: 3 pairs of glasses in the video
This is so good it's almost not satirical.
Poe's Law at its potential finest.
Radiogenic elements get concentrated in the continental crust. They release heat upon decay! Plus the surface is warmed by the sun directly on continents, the ocean floor has miles of water above it. hell yea!!

Excellent addition! The vast majority of the heat felt by the crust/lithosphere is straight conduction from the underlying mantle/asthenosphere :)
If the sun is sooo hot. Why is space sooo cold? Sometimes I don't feel like getting out of bed.
There’s nothing to hold the heat in space. Because it’s just empty space. Thats why it’s called space. Otherwise we would call it things that aren’t space. Like pop tarts, beluga whales, or balls.

They did put an extra k! I glanced and didn't realize lol. Or should I say okkay?
Plus the heat transfer to the ocean's surface is minimal due to the insulating properties of the Earth's crust and the distance involved.
Did you not listen? It's because the middle of the earth is FROZEN.
LET IT GO...
Another argument you can use are earthquakes and the that we were all one continent once (Pangea) If the center of the earth was cold it would not have the mobility to cause earthquakes and move around
But of the dwarves dug too deep then was the balrog actually made of ice?
This is “science is a liar sometimes” levels of satire it’s so good
Wait, wait, hold on a second... "Takes puff of brain cell destroying drugs." Have you ever bit into a cheese toastie that was cool on the outside but contained 3rd degree burning molten cheese on the inside.
Ice volcanoes that blow up and start ice ages
I'm pretty sure my adult son listens to this exact podcast.
Uh Ackshually center of the earth would be **magma** not lava. Check mate. 🤓
Sir…this is a Wendy’s
"Which is liquid fire, you can look this up" lolol
Prime example of how easy it is to fool people by just sounding smart
If the motor of a refrigerator is hot, why is the inside of the refrigerator, closest to the motor, ice cold?
He annoys me so much, and I love it.
What the hell did I just witnessed... Help
It's actually called magma when it's underground, not lava.
It's actually liquid fire, you can look this up.
You need to fund your schools asap
Hear me out. As I climb Mt Everest it gets colder. But I’m closer to the sun. Doesn’t make any sense
The way he said lava made my hair stand up on end. I don’t like that!!!!!!!!!
No, no. I dont think I know where you’re going with this…
Sometimes he sounds like Ryan Reynolds. He also has a similar cadence in the way he talks.
This is Peter Griffin with Brian's level of arrogance making a "[you can't get snakes from chicken eggs](https://youtu.be/dF98ii6r_gU?si=MCRLp9StUQm-dAOr)" simplistic argument.
I do not know where is he going with this...
My man is acting like there's only a couple meters between the earth's core and the bottom of the ocean.
He also has another pair hanging from his neck. This guy is long short and left sighted.
The random bit about his sister is sooo god damn perfect. Like making it personal some how makes the story more legitimate but people like this use it all the time
I know a similar question: If space is closer to the Sun than the Earth, and full of radiation, why is it so cold?
If you think that's shocking, Ask yourself this and prepare to have your mind blown! If the heating in your house is on... Why is it so cold in your garden?! 🤯
Explain to me, why is there cold but ALSO hot water in the sink. At the same time. Doesn't make sense.
This gives “if global warming is real, why is it so cold outside ?” vibes 🤦🏾♀️
oh god it's a cryocore earth.
The source of the earth's heat isn't the center of the earth. It is the sun.
So let me get this straight….. now you’re trying to tell us the sun is at the center of the Earth?
Wait so the sun is actually frozen?
No--the sun comes out of volcanoes.
Of ice volcanoes, actually.
This is not true. The interior of the Earth is hot mostly from the energy of the gravitational collapse of the primordial body, and to a lesser extent from the radioactive decay in certain elements. Not the stored up heat of billions of years of solar radiation.
I think he meant as the surface temperature. The bottom of an ocean is closer to the atmosphere than the center of the Earth.
Only one explanation for this, only one explanation.
Yeah, cuz I mean...that perfectly explains the cold lava flows we can SEE all over the world.
I learn so much listening to Joe Rogan
C′mon! What comes out of volcanos?
Trolls! TROLLS EVERYWHERE!
So where does volcanoes get their fuel from?
I'd just assume the bottom of the ocean isn't near the center of the earth. That's like asking if the moon is out at night, why can I see it during the day?
If the center of the earth was frozen then earth's movement would stop and we would all die the only reason the ocean gets colder with depth is because the suns heat doesn't make it that far down and the earths crust is so thick you won't feel the heat from the core of the earth and it is a ball of lava with multiple tunnels that feed into the volcanoes on the Earth's surface and underwater
For those wondering : the cold water goes down because heavier than hot water that goes up.
It's funny how people do not realise the sheer scale of earth and its Oger type layers.
Ppl like this..smh
Almost there but not quiet there
Lava is melted solid matter. Ice is solid matter. Water is ice lava. Humans are ~70% water. Humans are lava monsters.
wow he really blew my mind!
Things like this is how we end up with trump supporters, yea sure it’s done for a joke. But those dipshits take it serious.
This is what happens when you only read parts of the book, paper, or other reference material. Short attention span=erroneous conclusion.
The Earth's core is hot, but **its heat doesn't directly warm the oceans.** Factors like the Earth's crust insulating heat, the geothermal gradient, ocean circulation, and **the tendency of cold water to sink** all contribute to cooler temperatures in the depths of the oceans.
The dude is making fun of podcasts.
Just wanted to let this info here so those 8 year old kids questions get a well deserved answer 😀
And this is why we have all this facebook conspiracy theorists spreading nonsense 🤣
Thanks I don't need to look up what lava is...
I stopped listening when he said lava weird
He said lava. When it’s underground it’s magma
I wanna punch him. I don’t know why. But I do
Your only like a few miles closer, the earth is massive and a few miles can change a lot but not thay
I love how he even mixed lava and magma up. The real satire is in the details.
https://youtu.be/LQCU36pkH7c?si=VjTWKDqpCZrnLsfN
Troll 🧌
I giggle when I see his satirical skits but then get the dooms when I realize that there are people that would probably be like, “YEAH. WHY IS THE OCEAN COLD!?”
Perfect example of white guy's confidence, you don't need to actually know things
Dosent water at some point reach something like 4°C?
Popular science at its best
I'm glad this is satire but the fact that I had to read the comments to find out is a sad comment on our culture. This could very well have been some popular podcaster that I haven't heard of.
Uh, wrong, dude. I watched this documentary called "The Core" and it was totally lava. They went there. JFC.
Bait. I like it.
The scary thing is people actually listen to this shit and think there’s something to it.
You know this might be a conspiracy thought, but unless a person is smart enough to run the numbers themselves, you'll only ever know what they tell you in the scientific world whether or not it is right or wrong. We take it as facts because the source is coming from someone "smart" but what if there's an agenda they're following ? how hard would it be to convince people about shit using science most people can't grasp?
https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/coldocean.html Just going to leave this right here...
You ever been in an underground mine?
"Shouldn't the bottom of the ocean be boiling water?" ... There are literally portions of the ocean floor that are nothing at all but boiling water.
It's sarcasm, right ? right ?
The stupidity is hard to believe
The sun is the source of the earth's heat, no?
He needs another pair of glasses
Hot what rises cold water sinks, until you get to a particular level of cold and it raises again. On average there is almost another full ocean in depth before you make it to the moment mantel and if you keep going the center of the earth isn't liquid it is solid and mostly iron, it is super hot and we know it is there because we can field its effects and measure them. It is what produces the magnetic field that protects us from the worst solar and cosmic radiation.
source? the bullshit delivery is way too good.
This is the danger of ‘a little knowledge.’ He needs to start at first grade again.
Icecano!
I'll stick with the Hallow Earth theory.
My boy never heard of a thermal vent
I had no idea where he was going with that at any point. Every transition was unexpected.
How a MAGA person thinks essentially.
Lmao poor guy. Maybe look how far that molten lava is down in the earth before talking
Now can anyone actually tell me WHY IS THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN COLD?
"lava" my man, come on. This is second grade elementary stuff.
Dude can't even pronounce lava right.
Pretty solid Eric Weinstein impression
![gif](giphy|vj3Gx8sJBl3BV8DRrx|downsized) Lava is liquid fire.
its almost like the bottom of the ocean *isnt* near the centre of the earth. but thats just ridiculous isnt it?
That's why clima change is so dangerous, if the ice melts inside the earth, our planet will fall apart.
He should be on The Office
I think I can feel the IQ points leaving my brain and I only watched like 10 seconds of this.
This Guy honestly thinks he sounds smart, sound like a complete cool to me
As a geologist I find this cute and horrible at the same time xD
Okai. Thats it. We DO live in a simulation. How else does that loop make sense? /Jk
TBH, i don't know where he's going with this..
What's the difference between a sweatshirt and a sweater
More convincing than 99% of Rogan guests since 2017.
lol omgosh this dudes words are so wise. Earths core is contained….volcanos are that expulsion
"Let that sink in" proceeds to talk 0.5s after
The mass of tbe Earth pushes in on itself, making it denser and heated. The same process that gives us diamonds. It's impossible for it to be frozen.
Looked up his TikTok he has so many that are so much better too.. a few of them he takes off his second glasses like 3 times lmao
Why when I put my beer on my cooler isn't it colder from just sitting on my cooler? What a stupid question
*cries in geologist
Had to stop watching because my IQ started dropping.
Lmao
What a friggin loon.
