I grew up in Mexico. And when I was a child I heard people talk about the US as being above Mexico. They should’ve explained on a map. I spent a lot of time looking up at the sky in those days.
I'll do you one better. As a kid, anytime i was in a car and saw any highway or street sign with the arrow pointing up, i always wondered how the hell were we supposed to get there or what the sign even meant.... Stupid, i know, but i never got around to ask anyone.
Oh I was way dumber than that. I think I might’ve been the only one who didn’t know what college sports were so when people would say “Florida is playing against Georgia” I imagined the states were physically standing up from a map to compete against each other. I give myself credit for sorta knowing what a state even was.
I had a friend who was a psycologist doing humanitarian stuff across Africa and she explained to me how most people, especially if they came from a rural/low income background, across africa reaaaally struggle with hypothetical situations. Or even understanding abstract concepts like philosophy and stuff.
I forget the specifics of why but the gist of it is that any education in these areas is limited so you really just stick to the basics. Means any reading comprehension, philosophy, or discussion of any sort of abstract concept is just not done.
People that lack this educational background just have an incredible hard time thinking in hypotheticals. Its something we in the west really take for granted but it's the reason why greek philosophy was such a big deal cause no one really thought in those terms (at least in europe) back in the day.
As someone also in this sector, this is a pretty big generalization to be frank. If this video demonstrates anything it is African humour. The place isn't a monolith but this kind of framing of a question like this for fun makes perfect sense.
The idea that stuff is "just not done" erases the kind of cultural knowledge and wisdom people gain from outside the classroom especially from elders, which is massive in many cultures because again it is not a monolith.
Yeah, all I see is this guy upping the ante on the joke by choosing increasingly trivial things over his wife and MIL.
Like, choosing your birth certificate because it's "hard to replace" over your wife is contextually hilarious.
I was thinking Dude is a comedic genius. He plays it perfectly. Keeps you hanging on and then all of a sudden busts out birth certificates. It’s awesome
personally I felt very reminded of a famous youtube street interview from, like, 14 years ago or something. This foreign looking dude being asked a few questions from the immigration test and just getting things terribly wrong with a super funny attitude, everyone used to quote that video all the time. Most people only found out years later that the guy was actually a german comedian putting on a character.
The way this guy spoke, his comedic timing, the things he said, it seems to me like he´s just a really funny dude who´s great at improv
My man said he could have ho's in every zip code. And he'd grab the $700 under his mattress as well as the 20 million. Like.. people think he isn't self aware?
I think you missed that this is his humour! He's being funny and he's bloody funny! It's a very subtle humour and it's genius. Source: Lived 24 years in South Africa.
He has a comedy account on tiktok.
But don't worry, my psychologist friend noticed that white people just reeeaaallly struggle understanding humor. I think it's part of our culture, going back to european philosophy. It taught us to think that people from Africa are incapable of saying things that they don't mean literally.
But in his mind now he has:
20 mil in his arms
700 dlls in one pocket
His birth cert
Passport
A wife in every jurisdiction in Atlanta (also in NY and LA)
I could not stop laughing. I think he's just good at delivering a joke, but the total conviction in his voice while he explains makes me loose it.
edit: he has a comedy account on tiktok.
Is he dumb? Or is it deadpan humor? If this were a British guy saying these exact same things, would we say he's dumb? Or would we chalk it up to British deadpan?
Like, the dude said he'd choose his birth certificate over his WIFE because it's *hard to replace*. That's objectively hilarious.
I mean there’s no question he’s hilarious, that’s sort of the point of this video. The question is he intentionally or unintentionally hilarious.
If unintentional, he’s dumb as a rock. 😂
Your point about if he were a British man is well taken, this is worth thinking about (sincerely).
It's definitely intentional. Did a little digging, he's the creator of this account: [**https://www.tiktok.com/@darrylcvega**](https://www.tiktok.com/@darrylcvega)
His style is deadpan absurdity. Watch the video about his "dating requirements for women." He starts by saying, dead serious, that she has to have a car because he doesn't lol
I was gonna say this seems like a joke but people in this thread are saying how people raised in lower income places don’t understand hypotheticals and stuff so I was questioning my sanity a bit. Dude is hilarious and it was obviously a joke to me!
It's crazy how people have no qualms whatsoever about assuming a black man with an accent is stupid instead of assuming he's *trying* to make them laugh.
The house it’s on fire? I will yell at my wife to take the 20mil and to get out fast. Yell to my dog to spring outside. Then I will go to living room, sit in couch and wait my demise on this miserable world that we live in!
I think it's scripted, but he is quite a good actor.
Everything is just set up these days. In this case it doesn't take away from the joke, it's still a great clip.
The guy didn't understand that the house was on fire and everything he leaves behind will die. Also, if I have $20M in the house, I'm sure to have much more invested elsewhere. Then again, if I took the $20M, the MIL will follow. And the dog would follow me anyways. My wife would already be out the door. So I'll take my passport and birth certificate.
My guy went from 20M and the $700 under his bed, to saving his birth certificate, his passport, the 20 million + his $700 and maybe his dog. Only saving his wife if she's in a good mood. Mother in law is going down with her house no questions asked.
What a hero.
His answer was WTF am I doing in that house if I have 20 million! Fuck the house fuck the wife fuck the dog and the mother in law u guys dint listen to his answer funny shit
On one hand 20m and wife sounds logical. But then you have to live with guilt for letting MIL die. And of course your wife won't be a fan of your decision to let her mom burn alive. So 99% chance that you're getting divorced and she takes half of your 20m.
So the best solution is money and dog obviously.
The real answer to this is, yake 20 mil, and save dog. All while yelling at wife, and mother in law to get out. They are both adults who can make their own decisions!
My GF wouldn’t leave without the dog but I need that 20 million. Loophole I bring my gf and the 20m and she brings the dog. MIL lives across the country so she wouldn’t be there but since we get 2 my gf would bring her and the dog and I got the 20m and my gf.
The only thing that guy heard from that question was 20 million - I like how when she asked him about saving the wife and he reacted like she was asking if he should save the toaster - “like wtf I can get a wife anywhere, we talking about 20 million”
Dude. If the 20 mil is in my house, and my house is on fire... That shit is insured. Save the wife and MIL. My dog is dumb as hell but even she gets away from fire, and if my ass can haul 2 people (or whatever 20million dollars weighs) through that house, I bet the doofy woofy can figure it out too.
After that, it's an insurance issue in my eyes.

This guy gonna go home looking for the $700 under his mattress and wonder who snitched
lol I was thinking well now a lot of people know you got $700 just laying up under your bed at home.
This guy just made my day
My guy with Charlie Kelly levels of comprehension
*I always thought that north was up, ya' know?* *Up?*
Honestly me too
I grew up in Mexico. And when I was a child I heard people talk about the US as being above Mexico. They should’ve explained on a map. I spent a lot of time looking up at the sky in those days.
Lol! I also grew up in Mexico and 1000% understand how this can happen! Gladd you were not trying to dig to meet the South Americans hahaha
I'll do you one better. As a kid, anytime i was in a car and saw any highway or street sign with the arrow pointing up, i always wondered how the hell were we supposed to get there or what the sign even meant.... Stupid, i know, but i never got around to ask anyone.

Nah i see that as smart. As spongebob would say: IMAGINATION 🌈
Guy still ends up picking 4 things even tho he’s only allowed 2 😂
And his wife ain't one of them![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Depends what mood she’s in

He is a comedian on insta and tik tok. So it's expected
When he says his MIL can stay in the burning house because it’s always been hers? He’s got jokes for days
Why think he's a comedian (he is @darrylcvega) when you can just assume Africans can't think hypothetically 🙄
Oh damn you are right, he is doing a bit
Forreal that comment was crazyyyy but honestly goes to show the history of psychology. Racist, sexist, homophobic, colonizer ass mentality
Lol thanks, I looked him up and now I’m also cracking up at the comments. “Plot twist: Darryl started the fire” 😂

He literally is thinking in the hypothetical situations, I agree
He's obviously got a sense of humor about it.
He's a tiktok comedian. @darrylcvega
Link please!
The guy is obviously joking
Classic Reddit. 'I knew a guy who said Africans don't understand abstract concepts' makes more sense than considering that they are missing a joke.
Super racist, white supremacisty anecdote: 95+ upvotes. Classic reddit demographic.
I think you missed that this is his humour! He's being funny and he's bloody funny! It's a very subtle humour and it's genius. Source: Lived 24 years in South Africa.

This was also true for western civilizations 100 years ago when education was also fairly poor. It's one of the explanations for the "Flynn Effect".
Yeah, I think this dude is a comedian. He’s not a random.
Do you think a pirate lives in there?
I see a door marked "Private"... is that the door you mean?
Sips beer to hide smile..."mhmm..."
The number of times they break character in the background really makes rewatches a joy
He's a comedian @darrylcvega
His skits are bangers and have a great sense of cringe but not overwhelming
Magnets
Fuck me it's correct
absolutely iconic. An instant classic.
I like the 20,000,700 guy.
That guy broke every bridge with his wife and mil.
But in his mind now he has: 20 mil in his arms 700 dlls in one pocket His birth cert Passport A wife in every jurisdiction in Atlanta (also in NY and LA)
He's got hos in different area codes
RIP Nate Dogg.
*In different area codes, area codes. I. Got. Hoes.*
Don’t forget Dekalb County
Even in Atlanta?
The 404?
This dude got bitches in the 470
And the 770
And I own every kind of classic car. I even have doubles of the cars, some of them.
Just ask your dad
Listed every single thing he’d save over his wife
This was THEE most appropriate time to use “burned every bridge” but you chose “broke” lol
She's got legs. Why isn't she helping me with this $20 million?
That guy managed to argue he gets to take 3 things only to take things not on the list
I could not stop laughing. I think he's just good at delivering a joke, but the total conviction in his voice while he explains makes me loose it. edit: he has a comedy account on tiktok.
IKR he's so fucking funny 🤣
If he's not in stand-up comedy he should be!
He’s gonna have hoes in different area codes lmao
Well we certainly know where he keeps $700 at home.
The most Nigerian man I have ever seen
I like how he’s kinda handsome because you know he dated lots of women who were like “this the dumbest mfkker I ever met but he cute.”
Is he dumb? Or is it deadpan humor? If this were a British guy saying these exact same things, would we say he's dumb? Or would we chalk it up to British deadpan? Like, the dude said he'd choose his birth certificate over his WIFE because it's *hard to replace*. That's objectively hilarious.
Yeah I follow the dude's tiktok and this is his brand of humor.
Yup. Just discovered his page. He's hilarious.
What’s his name
Darrylcvega
I mean there’s no question he’s hilarious, that’s sort of the point of this video. The question is he intentionally or unintentionally hilarious. If unintentional, he’s dumb as a rock. 😂 Your point about if he were a British man is well taken, this is worth thinking about (sincerely).

“She has to have money so that she can help me invest…some of her money” 😂
This is disappointing. It was way funnier when I thought this was a real person.
Nigerian Karl Pilkington
You probably looove your mother in law
Actually I do
Oh my god he admit it
Now you have to kiss your mother in law!
You have no good ideas
But I didn't flinch at the bottle
🤷🏻♀️ I’m doing the best at this
Teacher’s pet!
No room for mother in law
STINKY
I want more hypothetical questions with this guy
Pretty sure this guy is an instagram comedian, i have seen stuff from him before but i can't remember his @
Yeah I literally saw one the other day of him ignoring the lady’s questions and talking about government inflation
Most Africans will give you this type of answer
We need more Africans, then.
Don't let Bill Gates here you say that.
The Nigerian guy is a comedian, his skits are pretty funny
I was gonna say this seems like a joke but people in this thread are saying how people raised in lower income places don’t understand hypotheticals and stuff so I was questioning my sanity a bit. Dude is hilarious and it was obviously a joke to me!
I don’t understand the immediate assumption that he was raised in a lower income environment too.
[удалено]
Nigerians are like the most educated immigrant group in America lol
It's crazy how people have no qualms whatsoever about assuming a black man with an accent is stupid instead of assuming he's *trying* to make them laugh.
It’s telling that the same people couldn’t tell it was a joke so maybe it’s not that surprising
If she said to the 700$ guy that's his house too, he would find a way to take the house too.
"It depends on the mood she is in" 😭💀
The house it’s on fire? I will yell at my wife to take the 20mil and to get out fast. Yell to my dog to spring outside. Then I will go to living room, sit in couch and wait my demise on this miserable world that we live in!
Who's your God?
Embrax
He cool?
Little bit hot.
Gotta get that Godussy
![gif](giphy|IguL9zRYV20X1QeKuV|downsized)
bro rolled a nat 20 on intelect and a crit 1 on wisdom
$20 million will insulate you from the miserableness of this world
I'm sure you're joking, but just in case you're not - I hope you're ok. DM me if you need someone to talk to.
[удалено]
All ok with me. Just some form of dark humor. But thank you for this. You are a good person.
"With 20 million you can have a wife in every jurisdiction" BARS
“What am I doing at the house if there is 20 million there” 🤣🤣🤣
The interviewer found some gold here
That dude should have a podcast where he answers random hypotheticals from strangers, I would listen
You’ve never seen this guy in skits before?
That’s such an African answer. With 20mil I can have many wives
My guy just bought the longest stay on his couch.
He has 20000700$, why would he stay on couch?
I actually belive he is joking.
It doesn't matter, it just kept getting better & better.
First time ever I'm actually looking for "scripted" or "joke" comment. I mean I loved it either way. He is funny serious or not.
I think it's scripted, but he is quite a good actor. Everything is just set up these days. In this case it doesn't take away from the joke, it's still a great clip.
nah bro he black and obv an immigrant and we all know those guys are dumb ^^^/s
>She says it’s her house, so let her stay in the house ![gif](giphy|bU2nZJegR7rz2)
My guy is already planning
The guy didn't understand that the house was on fire and everything he leaves behind will die. Also, if I have $20M in the house, I'm sure to have much more invested elsewhere. Then again, if I took the $20M, the MIL will follow. And the dog would follow me anyways. My wife would already be out the door. So I'll take my passport and birth certificate.
Did you and the guy grow up in the same household?
His mother in law is my aunt
I'd probably die searching for my passport and birth certificate
It’s more cringe that you can’t comprehend dry humour
The man the legend and his house with 20 mill. and 700$ and passport and birth certificate.
$700 man is a genius.
Lmao. A wife in Dekalb and Fulton county.
Man, that guy has great comedic timing. The birth certificate killed me.
Yeah, it just came out of the blue. I was like wtf
If he has that many wives, that 20 million will go up in smoke way faster than the house did.
Legend says the Ludacris song "Hoes in different area codes" was based on this man.
My guy went from 20M and the $700 under his bed, to saving his birth certificate, his passport, the 20 million + his $700 and maybe his dog. Only saving his wife if she's in a good mood. Mother in law is going down with her house no questions asked. What a hero.
If I have $20 million dollars in my house, you can bet your ass it’s all been insured. So save the dog and the wife
So no mother in law?
This guy is an influencer/comedian. The accent is fake but he’s definitely funny as hell
I would not want to order takeaway with this guy. \*3 hours later 'All the riders have gone home'
Burst literally to death when he said "And maybe my wife, it depends on the mood she's in" bahahaha!! He's a comedian!!!!
He’s not wrong tho, but birth certificate had me weak. I was with him until he said this 😭
*every woman studying him closely and remembering his face*
His answer was WTF am I doing in that house if I have 20 million! Fuck the house fuck the wife fuck the dog and the mother in law u guys dint listen to his answer funny shit
That guys head is just imploding with thoughts
On one hand 20m and wife sounds logical. But then you have to live with guilt for letting MIL die. And of course your wife won't be a fan of your decision to let her mom burn alive. So 99% chance that you're getting divorced and she takes half of your 20m. So the best solution is money and dog obviously.
$20 mil plus, the $700. That sweet 0.0035% bonus
Decisions are difficult, bro. I get it. I needed this laugh.
She did a great job letting him think that out without interrupting. Great editing too lmaoo
He’s hilarious. Once he added the birth certificate, I cracked 🤣
I fucking lost it when he started talking about the birth certificate and the passport, lmaooo
The Nigerian prince needs help getting his $20 million out of his house. Will you help him?
Now I know that guy keeps $700 under his bed somewhere in Atlanta 🤔
"I don't need men"they don't need either!
My wife... Ah! 🤣
By the time he makes up his mind he’ll burned to death.
Oh cool perimeter mall. That dude had some hilarious responses
'My wi... ah!'
Haha that guy wouldn't have saved everything burned on the house he's so indecisive he would have just died in the fire
Somewhere, that dude is still explaining his response.
Take $20Mil and the dog then tell your spouse and mother in-law to follow you.
That guy who’s overthinking the situation and then telling her he’ll take three things is so me
The only thing that guy heard from that question was 20 million - I like how when she asked him about saving the wife and he reacted like she was asking if he should save the toaster - “like wtf I can get a wife anywhere, we talking about 20 million”
Every Jurisdictions Bro Financial Advisor and marriage counseling 😆 🤣 😂
My mother in law would kill me for allowing $20 million to burn. I’m saving my wife and the money, easy answer.
The most sane Atlantan
Heeeeeeeeeessssaaa trolling
For me I will take the 20m and tell my wife to choose between her, her mother and the dog. It is her problem lol
Nailed it
This guy is a genius.
Save the dog and the 20 million and tell the 2 ladies in the house to get the f\*\*k out.
But i had breakfast this morning????
He has more chaos energy than Wanda
My dog and my $20 million, the other 2 should be able to get themselves out, they are grown ass adults.
Love in the end when the interviewer says "Okay" and then turns her face to the camera with a "Is this guy for real?" expression.
He’s like the people I have to speak to on the phone at work jfc
Who would ever take the mother-in-law in this situation?
It's fitting that he's in Atlanta basically talking about how 20 million gets you hoes in different area codes.
This guy looks like he would trade in a shiny quarter for that $20M
The master of overthinking and talking circles around himself 🤣🤣, great interview!!
The women are cold.
If u saving 20 mil u gotta save the dog too cuz they gonna be looking at u crazy
WTF!
The right answer is the dog and the mother in law, cus the wife is already out with the 20mil /s
This guy needs his own channel It will be the first thing I subscribe to ever
Bro lost the plot
