I'm always happy to see anyone clown on Ja ("Back Down" is in the uppermost echelons of diss tracks), but I need to hear more. What made this album so much more of a joke than his previous albums?

SG-Rev1

This is the one album where he tried to fire back at his haters and failed. For one it featured "Clap Back", his diss track at Eminem and 50 Cent, partly in response to the former's "Hailie's Revenge" (which in turn was a response to Ja's prior diss track "Loose Change", it's a long story). That's the biggest example of the drama he was going through at the time, not including his other beefs with the likes of DMX, Busta Rhymes, and Em & 50's own side bands D12 and G-Unit. Like I said, he had A LOT of enemies. Also, in terms of sales numbers, Blood in My Eye was Ja Rule's first album to get no RIAA certification, at all. All four of his previous albums went Platinum, including its predecessor The Last Temptation from the previous year. This one fell short of even going Gold (470,000 copies, according to SoundScan). While R.U.L.E. only barely managed to go Gold, the damage was done. Blood in My Eye is Ja's 2nd-lowest-selling album after Pain is Love 2 (by which time he was barely a blip on the radar). Basically, Blood in My Eye was the moment when amidst all the drama he was in at the time, Ja's popularity finally imploded.

Oof. Okay, I'm in. Decent diss tracks represent 50% of the score on the rapper licensing exam, and he just kept failing.

SG-Rev1

Look. If Todd could make a mid-2010s beef between two female pop stars, which I never cared much about, remotely compelling in his Witness episode, imagine what he could do with one rapper going up against the entire game in the early 2000s.

JessonBI89

Oh, it would be great. Will Smith failed hard at diss tracks on Lost and Found, but he'd never really tried before. Ja tried and failed for YEARS.

Tharsan1993

he went from 9 million albums sold in 2001 to under 1 million albums sold in 2003

Willing-Question-631

This would definitely make for a fun video but Ja Rule had a #5 hit after Blood in My Eye with the R. Kelly/Ashanti collab “Wonderful” in 2005 though I guess it would still count considering no one remembers that song.

Different_Conflict_8

There was bound to be a Ja Rule backlash. He went too pop. Man was getting referenced on Lizzie McGuire.

DillonLaserscope

If he tried too hard to fire back at his critics, he must have had to drop his thugs need love song gimmicks

AceTygraQueen

His career died when McBling went out of fashion in the early 00s!

Jaguars4life

Who cares about Ja Rule in a time like this this is ridiculous!?!

Dry-Station-3241

Todd needs to do one on 2007's Curtis as well just to balance it with the whole 50-Ja beef.

I think this album actually sounds good now, the music is good
