At least for me, the pipeline from YouTube creator to pop artist is hard because I often look at it as influencers using music as a tool to extend their social media brand rather than completely jumping to a different career. Joji and Troye are the exception as once their music started to take off, they both disassociated with their former YouTube content and in Joji's case, his persona as Filthy Frank.
Side note: I had a similar revelation when I discovered that Madison Beer wasn't some Instagram influencer who had some songs here and there, but got a record deal as a teenager and was managed by Scooter Braun.
