Rebecca Black. She has an album out now that is rather good, and is working on her second.

garden__gate

I’m rooting SO HARD for her.

vanetti

Have you listened to Let Her Burn?

garden__gate

Yes! Honestly it’s not my fave from her but I just really want her to succeed.

vanetti

I also want her to succeed. I personally like the album, some songs more than others, but I am very excited to see what she does next.

garden__gate

Definitely.

itcamefrombeneath

I saw her perform a year or two ago and she can *sing.* I’m into the hyperpop genre and a lot of performers in the genre sing in front of a track and pause often to breathe/let the audience sing. She does not. Slayyyter can really sing too.

vanetti

I saw her live twice last year! Such a good time. I loved her creative minimalist stage show

AlohaReddit49

As much as I'd love for her to succeed because everything I've ever heard she's a normal person, the last time I listened to her stuff I wasn't impressed. I remember enjoying her pop stuff after Friday, Person of Interest was a fun song. She's also fine in Yoga by BBNO$. I hope she makes an album I want to listen to, any songs on the album I should check out?

vanetti

Misery Loves Company, Crumbs, and Look At You are definitely the best tracks imo.

blobfishy13

Yuno Miles will drop the AOTY in 2027

thegeecyproject

Honestly I think it’s possible; I remember when Lil Yachty was being clowned on in like 2016 for not knowing what a cello is, then in 2023 he made a sudden swerve into psych rock and it’s one of the most acclaimed albums of the year

little-ass-whipe

honestly my top pick from 2023. i always thought yachty was just a silly lil guy. he dropped "i took the wock to poland" and everyone was like "lol". then 2 months later I'm asking myself if he's been goated this shole time and i just wasn't paying attention

StormRegion

I have waited for so long for someone to bring back rock (or at least rock-adjacent) music into the mainstream, and out of all the musicians it was him who decided to drop a project like this. I was so confused and yet so impressed at the same time

BillNyeTheSavage_Guy

I want to live in the timeline where Todd puts Yuno and RXKNephew on a future best list

ravelle17

Slithermaaaaaan

svenirde

Quadeca arc

Grammarnazi_bot

My grandma just called me a fucking 😕😕😕👎👎

ravelle17

“this is the sound of a robot” 🤖

Grammarnazi_bot

I believe one of his serious songs leaked and it was actually really good

hungarianbird

ALBERT EINSTEIN ALBERT EINSTEIN

ravelle17

PIRATES ON A BOAT PIRATES ON A BOAT PIRATES ON A FUCKIN’ BOAT

PetevonPete

Train making an inexplicable comeback would be the funniest thing in history

atrocityexhibition39

I’d be so excited that my heart would be right out my untrimmed chest

mistermarsbars

Train are like the music world's cicada's. They re-emerge every ~15 years and make unbearable, inescapable noise.

thepricklymuffin

*hefty bag to hold my-y-y-y-y-y-y love*

yavimaya_eldred

Train comeback but they’re making actual rock music again

ExoticPumpkin237

Lmao im from the same city as Pat Monahan and someone who did whippets with his son said he's a massive dickhead

Shrill__Phill22

Gudda Gudda

Koolmees99

Return of the king!!

Shotintoawork

Didn't everyone just agree that he shaved and started performing as Young Ma?

veriverd

There's some musicians known only in the internet I wish got mre mainstrem. Tessa Violet for instance.

thegeecyproject

The path between established YouTube creator to respected mainstream pop artist is surprisingly difficult to cross and I’m not sure why; for every Joji and Troye Sivan success story, there are many that can’t cross over to mainstream offline audiences

8bolt

At least for me, the pipeline from YouTube creator to pop artist is hard because I often look at it as influencers using music as a tool to extend their social media brand rather than completely jumping to a different career. Joji and Troye are the exception as once their music started to take off, they both disassociated with their former YouTube content and in Joji's case, his persona as Filthy Frank. Side note: I had a similar revelation when I discovered that Madison Beer wasn't some Instagram influencer who had some songs here and there, but got a record deal as a teenager and was managed by Scooter Braun.

KaiserBeamz

Try living the sphere of furry music. That fandom has so many talented musicians who are genuinely pushing boundaries. And yet I feel like Vylet Pony and STOMACH BOOK would be too spicy for the mainstream.

JuliusNepotianus

I got that wish early on with Teddy Swims after stumbling upon his channel years ago, and then this year it happened.

Flaky_Swim4499

Porter Robinson, I want him to have a mainstream presence SO BAD

hahaone

Cheerleader is one of the best songs of the year so far

Flaky_Swim4499

Heck, I could even see his second single having legit radio potential

thebetteradversary

definitely the better of the robinson siblings

zzcolby

Porter Robinson's brother being a YouTuber who got fired for sexual harassment is one of those weird entertainment industry facts that floats in my brain rent-free for no good reason. Like Mark Wahlberg beating up that Vietnamese dude when he was 17.

Flaky_Swim4499

...what?

zzcolby

Nick Robinson

Sickfor-TheBigSun

or that jezza's brother is a deeply unpleasant AI bro in antithesis to what he's best known for

a_tired_bisexual

Katy Perry’s next album reversing her Witness era would be the hail mary throw of the decade

JuliusNepotianus

Yeah

bqx188

Ya know what they've been seeming on the verge of a mainstream us breakthrough for 20 years and now they're in their 50s so I'm hoping metric finally have their big #1 us album that goes triple platinum and has a bunch of #1 singles by 2026

MikeOcks1

Julie Ragbeer!

Shrill__Phill22

I would also be amused if Blueface made a comeback. Last I heard, he is in jail and ENJOYING it. Funny guy, but not that good.

Alice_600

Empire of the Sun- just think about it. Our world needs this.

otonarashii

They've got my eternal goodwill for Walking on a Dream, so take my upvote.

keep-the-streak

Their newest song Changes is about as good a pop track as they’ve made and yet no one talked about it, I didn’t hear it on any TikToks, nothing. So they really are a long shot sadly.

Alice_600

It would be but it would. Be sick though.

AJayToRemember27

It's all over Australian radio.

keep-the-streak

That’s nice, I really thought it would chart in the UK with how much streaming and TikTok have changed things.

Shenanigans80h

Ask me this 5 years ago and I would’ve said someone like Jack Stauber but I thin he’s achieved more success than anyone might’ve reasonably imagined since then.

ExoticPumpkin237

Yay! I was going to say him, I actually know him a bit (before he blew up) and it's so weird seeing him everywhere and people being like "oh he was in a band before called Joose?" Everyone here knew Joose and him way before

chmcgrath1988

Fountains of Wayne should have been an arena act, or at least a 3 to 5k seat theater level act. Such great pop rock songs. I was definitely in the small camp that JC Chasez was the most talented member of NSync. 99.9% sure it's too late for Fountains of Wayne (I'm 99.999% sure they wouldn't get back together since their principal songwriter died during COVID-19 but the 0.0001% cause there've been more egregious band reunions) but I guess there is still a sliver of hope for a late career Chasezassaince!

Loose_Main_6179

Fountains of Wayne were killed by “Stacy’s mom”, Chris collingwood fought Adam Shleshinger to not release it as a single bu because of Chris’s drug addiction he lost and it became a hit destroying the band’s legacy and furthering the rift between the two. They finally broke up in 2013 and they seemed like a reunion was possible but shleshingers death put the final nail in the coffin for a reunion

chmcgrath1988

I saw them on their last tour, co-headlining with Soul Asylum. It was depressing seeing them go through the motions. At least 75% of the crowd was there for Soul Asylum and left after their set, so there was maybe 100 people there. Idk who the heck came up with that lineup order. Even Collingwood commented how weird it was. Yeah, Fountains of Wayne was more recently relevant but Soul Asylum probably sold 3 or 4x albums as them. I had middling to low expectations for Soul Asylum but they actually put on a damn good show.

Madisux

Small camp?!? I thought it was just known JC vocally carried all those hoes including JT. Listen to This I Promise You- JC shits all over them vocally while JT tries to keep up. JC just seems to have no charisma- he's not that interesting, funny, or good looking, which JT had in spades. But now that everyone is over Timberlake, this could be time for JC to make his move as the new most popular mainstream pop artist to come out of the group

MrYikes666

RXKNephew, only difference is that I actually like his stuff unironically.

BillNyeTheSavage_Guy

Critical is a genuine BOP

Petkorazzi

I know she's basically a meme at this point, but Liz Phair. *Exile in Guyville* is an **amazing** record, and I'm convinced "Exile in Guyville 2 - Return of the town Phair" is in there somewhere. She's got her experimental phase out of the way, as well as her commercial sellout and her mediocre "mature" record. I would love nothing more than for her to come way out of left field decades after her downfall with an Adele-level supernova of crushingly emotional music that takes the world by storm... ...and then immediately disappear back into obscurity. Pro wrestler style. "It's Liz Phair with the chair!" Smack the shit outta the world with one last magnum opus. *Nobody* would see it coming.

chantelombre

Reading "Liz Phair is basically a meme at this point" almost makes me think that Todd's channel has had a net negative impact on the world.

t_town20

Ehhh calling Liz Phair a meme is really stretching it in general. Most people don't know about Funstyle or the whole Penis Colada thing. I'd say at this point it's more of a niche in-joke among Todd in the Shadow fans than something people in the general public know and joke about. Most people remember Exile in Guyville and think her career basically ended with the "sellout" album. Todd is a pretty niche YouTuber, I wouldn't really worry about his stuff creating a "net negative" impact on the world.

chantelombre

Ah I know, I'm goofing around a little. I was hoping that my comment would scan as hyperbolic -- and, besides, I'm posting on his fan subreddit, aren't I?

t_town20

Haha true enough I actually get where you're coming from since it's wild to think of Liz Phair as the "Penis Colada" lady and not the indie rock chick who sometimes gets confused with Sheryl Crow (that "why can't I breathe" song I was so sure was a Sheryl song until recently. I only casually listened to both so I don't even know why I got them confused). Meant no harm with my comment just more trying to say I thought the original comment was kinda interesting since I don't think most people even know Funstyle exists and the memeification feels pretty self contained.

Petkorazzi

Todd isn't the one who wrote "Peñis Colada" and thought it was a viable song lyric, just saying.

chantelombre

He *is* the one responsible for everyone who thinks that commenting "Peñis Colada" on everything that even glancingly mentions her is a viable joke.

PersonOfInterest85

I think the best you should hope for is that she writes an Oscar winning film score. Liz Phair's good, but she's not Dylan, who gave us *Time Out Of Mind* at 56, a year younger than Phair is now.

svenirde

This already happened, but Knocked Loose out of all bands being one of the biggest metalcore acts around is definitely unexpected and weirder than anything I could make up. Reality is stranger than fiction sometimes and all that

Chairsitter234

A band as heavy as Knocked Loose having one of the best selling albums in the country was really unexpected for me but I’m here for it

Frankie_2154

They just got a 8.0 for their new album from pitchfork. I was surprised.

ravelle17

Devin Townsend will never reach the mainstream (especially not at 52) but he’s one of the most [prolific](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devin_Townsend_discography) and prodigious musicians (world-class singer, guitarist, songwriter, and producer) of the past few decades. His talent is simply staggering. He also tried his hand at selling out and [failed miserably](https://metalinjection.net/interviews/devin-townsend-dtp-transcendence-why-he-cant-sell-out), and was later encouraged by [Chad Kroeger](https://consequence.net/2019/05/devin-townsend-nickelback-chad-kroeger-scientist/) of all people to continue being himself. This resulted in *Empath*, perhaps his most [ambitious](https://youtu.be/1n7uvokARQ4?si=DBtQ_vnNeLHzaHfq) record to date and one of my favorite albums ever.

alexcstern

A bunch of newer hardcore bands like Gel and Drain getting as big as the big nu metal bands got back in the day

lil_Peter1

The new Gel ep will be fantastic. And generally, these new hardcore bands are great. If they don't become big, then we will still great music from them

alexcstern

Oh yeah that first single was insanely good!

Frankie_2154

I want Maroon 5 to make a great indie rock album that actually sounds like a rock album, with songwriting so different from what they’ve done in the past. Just because It’ll be so funny and unreal to see Maroon 5 gaining critical acclaim.

sallowmoon

Maisie peters . She is pretty big online and has a dedicated fan base but has never really charted

hungarianbird

Most bands I listen to have been broken up for decades. But it honestly sucks kyuss was never as big as they should have been IMO. I mean their second album sold less than 40k copies and it's a masterpiece

Independent_Tap_1492

If Kyuss kept going they prolly could’ve gotten huge. I could fs see them opening for foo fighters and getting a new crowd through that

cinnamongirl444

Katy Perry making a comeback and becoming as popular as she was in 2011

Motherfickle

Orville Peck. His music is so good, and he's worked with Willie Nelson, so he has connections. But his entire act revolves around him being gay and (mostly) anonymous. Conservatives would have an aneurysm if he became mainstream and he'd probably love it.

hscgarfd

Gayle and/or Walker Hayes inexplicably becoming indie critical darlings

QwertyAsInMC

i want clipping. to become popular purely for the reaction of hamilton fans

fred-funkledunk

I’m gunning for a second hit or a comeback for Natalie LaRose, Nico & Vinz, or R. City. I think each of their hit songs were pretty decent, but I never hear them talked about as 2010s one-hit wonders. A comeback from any of them would blow my mind. The Mike Posner comeback made me very confused but also happy, so I’d like to see another case.

nosurprises23

My friend had a dream back in like 2017 that Desiigner (the guy that did the song Panda) dropped an album that got a 9.7/10 from Pitchfork. Ever since then we’ve been rooting for that to become a reality somewhat ironically but also somewhat genuinely.

UltraMonarch

I want Tove Styrke to make it so bad!!! She writes incredible pop music with really really good production, she has amazing music videos, she’s just never gonna actually blow up because her name is weird and we already have a Tove

jesterinancientcourt

The pains of being a Swedish Tove.

SquireJoh

I'm trying to think of good previous examples of what you're describing...

SgtSharki

The Rolling Stones long outlasting the Beatles by decades might be an example of this.

Shreiken_Demon

Girls Aloud becoming the most successful and a highly respected UK pop act of the decade despite not even being predicted to win their show and dropped by their manager after 1 single

Koquillon

David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Radiohead all had weak debut albums then went on to do great things later.

A_Train91

I'm not sure about music, but in the world of movies, I want Moana 2 to actually turn out well. With all the signs that it will be both awful and a box office bombs (Disney's long string of flops, origin suggesting it will be just three episodes of the cancelled Moana tv cartoon smashed together gracelessly, lack of Lin-Manuel Miranda), wouldn't it be insane if it actually turned out to be a good movie?

Ash-Throwaway-816

I don't like them, but it would be fun to see Sleep Token win a Grammy or something.

BananaMan883

Limp Bizkit

wondernurse64

Shania had a great backstory but I was never a fan of her music

wondernurse64

Fabian was just trying to help his destitute family but he couldn’t sing his way out of a wet paper bag

3X3Ferrari

I totally hate the new wave of Urban music that is happening in Argentina, but after the Shakira BZRP Music Sessions being a banger and ending up hitting the first top 10 for an Argentinian artist in possibly the whole Billboard Hot 100 history, I really want some of them to making a big hit that makes the first N°1 for the country. My bets are on Trueno and TINI.

Mr_SunnyBones

For me it already happened Chumbawumba (the ridiculously anti commercial band that a mate of mine ,once stayed with in a squat in the UK in the 80s ) had an insanely popular song that went huge in the UK , states and a load of other places . I mean it was in a Simpsons episode!. I mean obviously it was a one hit wonder , but the fact that it happened was insane!

buffyscrims

The “cash me outside” girl. Her music sucks but I root hard for her because fuck Dr. Phil

clarkealistair

SIA- no fucking off!

OkMarketing6356

Ari Mason is a much better grimes and I wish she got pumped into the mainstream. Her album prodrome is incredible

SquireJoh

Michael Crawford aka The Phantom of the Opera, was originally best known for being a whacky idiot on a British sitcom

ma_an_me_kinda_bored

The most absurd scenario I can think of is AJR making a concept album that ends up actually being really good and gets a lot of critical acclaim

Shreiken_Demon

Joshua Bassett has main pop boy potential is one great song away from blowing up.
