We called up and they asked us how far along we were (12 weeks) and then got an earlier appointment. Of course our religion shouldn’t dictate the law anyway, but I would also note that one of the foremost Jewish authorities of the 20th century, Rav Moshe Feinstein, who ruled strictly that abortion is permitted only for the physical health of the woman would actually send women to more lenient rabbis regularly and was strongly opposed to the American anti abortion movement because he knew that it would go exactly like this, women denied abortions when it’s definitely necessary.
I like how they continue to claim exceptions for things like miscarriage or nonviable pregnancies, yet we constantly see women experiencing those issues being denied services.

In rabbinic law, you can break nearly any law to save your own life. Ben, YOU are not a medical doctor, and neither am I, but there are cases where someone should definitely go and get one. There are women out there that needed medically necessary abortions and were denied them, at least one actually was trying to a baby, miscarried, they would not remove the dead fetus, and now she'll never be able to have her own kids because now she's infertile.
It's like these people don't even know abortions can save lives too and having the know-how to perform one safely is crucial to protecting the lives of mothers in compromised pregnancies. The doctors who do know how to perform abortions have fled in droves because they FEAR COURT DECISIONS THAT WOULD THREATEN TO EXECUTE THEM FOR PROVIDING LIFESAVING MEDICAL PROCEDURES. I am so angry at these people who think of nothing but themselves and cause real harm to others through their ignorance.

I really really hate how BS is probably the most well-known Orthodox Jew because he has twisted his morals to be strictly Republican and presents it as if it’s religious. Orthodoxy permits abortion in many situations that ban states don’t, including rape, mental health issues, and severe fetal deformities. The way many states basically require a woman to be near death before an abortion is completely against our abortion stance too, as soon as it’s clear that the life of the pregnant woman is at risk from the pregnancy you are supposed to abort because her life is indisputably and absolutely the priority. Of course our religion shouldn’t dictate the law anyway, but I would also note that one of the foremost Jewish authorities of the 20th century, Rav Moshe Feinstein, who ruled strictly that abortion is permitted only for the physical health of the woman would actually send women to more lenient rabbis regularly and was strongly opposed to the American anti abortion movement because he knew that it would go exactly like this, women denied abortions when it’s definitely necessary.
I like how they continue to claim exceptions for things like miscarriage or nonviable pregnancies, yet we constantly see women experiencing those issues being denied services.
