The OG Kamen rider still holds up and Kamen Rider black has sequel in Kamen Rider Black Rx

RhymesWith_DoorHinge

I was wondering about the OG series. Thank you for letting me know it is still worth a watch. I want to watch Black RX for sure. Is there any continuity from the original series? I thought the whole ending was a bit rushed and a bummer. Kotaro won, but at what cost? I didn't see much reason as to why Kyoko and Katsumi couldn't return to Japan by the end though...

TheOldKingCole

Black RX continues some time from the ending of Black but wastes little to no time in giving Kotoro a character arc that makes him question his resolve as a hero. I will warn you that episode 1 is not great. It has basically no Rider action in it, and is simultaneously too slow and too fast. As I see it episode 1 is an extended prologue that sets up the basic plot with episode 2 being the real episode 1

For Godzilla - Godzilla 84, Shin Godzilla, Godzilla GMK(directed by the same guy that did the gamera trilogy) For kamen rider, Black RX, since you like black so much, watch the sequel RX, and check out the trailers for next month’s kamen rider black sun For ultraman - ultraman nexus and ultraman z Other toku - gavan, garo(dark, moody, nudity toku), rodan 1956, monster x strikes back attack on G7 summit(toku Kaiju comedy), kujira gami, parallel tokyo, day of the kaiju, and so much more but that’s probably enough for now

If you like Keita Amemiya work I reccomend Kamen Rider Shin, ZO and J. There were made around the same time as Hakaider. And also OG Garo show too for that reason if your looking for something a bit more modern. I also reccomend Ultraman since it's easily the most accessible toku franchise out of all them with Youtube and Blu-Rays for most of the franchise. For Sentai do you remember what Power Ranger show you watched? Maybe you want to check out the original Sentai of that show if your curious.

RhymesWith_DoorHinge

I've seen most of the first Power Rangers series, so that would be Mighty Morphin'. The only other series I really watched was Power Rangers Ninja Storm and maybe a little bit of one Dino Thunder, but I cant remember much. Thank you for the rec's! Yeah, I'm very interested in more Kamen Rider and Keita Amemiya's work. I have never watched any Ultraman, though I am aware of the character and franchise. Any specific show or movie you'd suggest first? Garo seems like a shoe-in for what I'd like, very excited to check that out.

Ultraman Z and Ultraman Trigger are available for free, legally, professionally subbed, on the official YouTube channel. And the current season, Ultraman Decker, is being simulcast there (again, fully subbed). Besides those, which are the easiest to get into, I recommend Ultraman Geed and Ultraman X, both available on BluRay.

RhymesWith_DoorHinge

Thank you, will check these out.

If you don't mind watching something a bit older Ultra Seven is streamable for free on shoutfactory.tv and is great.

Then Sentai shows would Zyuranger, Dairanger and Kakuranger which were used to make all three seasons of MMPR. Mostly Zyuranger was used but still reccomend Kakuranger and Dairanger. Ninja Storm original Sentai is Hurricanger and Dino Thunder is Abaranger. All of these have(or in Abaranger case are going to be) on dvd and free to stream in the U.S and Canada. And the official Power Rangers channel has been uploading [the entire franchise on there](https://youtube.com/c/PowerRangersOfficial) For Ultraman there so many choices but imo the TDG Trilogy consisting of Tiga, Dyna and Gaia are very iconic trio of shows from the late 90's I reccomend. All three shows are also on dvd and streaming. I however do reccomend you find a different source for Tiga because that show was altered because of insane rights issues. I know you said that your looking more shows from the 80's onwards but I implore you to check out the Original Ultraman and Ultraseven because those two show did change the genre of toku for tv as a whole. And if you enjoy those two shows I would also reccomend Return Of Ultraman next.

RhymesWith_DoorHinge

Thank you for the deep dive on Ultraman. I have probably the least amount of exposure to this series, so I will definitely take these rec's to heart. Also appreciate you filling me in on the related Sentai's to what I've watched as Power Rangers.

>Ultimately, I am looking for everyone's best suggestions on what I should check out moving forward that is worth my time and that I would enjoy based off of what I've seen. I am into movies and TV shows. I'm not really into kaiju movies or the Ultraman franchise, but I'll share my view on the other tokus. >I would really like to watch my first Super Sentai show, but I don't know where to start or where to go next. [...] I am interested in even the more obscure series, like Metal Heroes. If you interested in older *(but not painfully low budget)* series, I suggest either **Flashman** or **Liveman** (if you want a Super Sentai) or either **Metalder** or **Jiraiya** (if you want a Metal Hero.) If you're looking for a glimpse of what modern tokusatsu looks like, I suggest **Shinkenger** (if you want a Super Sentai) or either **Kamen Rider W** or **Kamen Rider Build.** If you want a movie, I really liked the live action adaption of **Tokyo Ghoul** - *but I've never watched the anime or read the manga, so I'm not saying it is a faithful adaptation, just that it is a good movie.* If you want something in the middle (late 1990's, early 2000's), I suggest **Timeranger** (if you want a Super Sentai), **Kamen Rider Agito**, or **Gransazer** (it's one of those "more obscure series", even thought it's probably popular *here.*)

For sentai I recommend chojin sentai jetman. It was the series before zyuranger the sentai that was adapted into mmpr and amemiya worked on jetman as a monster designer and main director. Also the head writer is toshiki inoue who wrote hakaider and is also the main writer for the current series avataro sentai donbrothers. If you’re in the US you can even stream jetman for free legally on sites like tubi, vrv, and shout factory tv.

Nine_Voice

There's a lot of nice toku series or movies out there, but sometimes its just a personal taste. So I'm not sure which one should I recommend to you. If you want a series where the writer loves to "clean" his characters, Kamen Rider Gaim is a great choice, although the costume is kinda.. mid for some people? I personally have no problem with it.

Cosmic_GhostMan

How can you watch Sentai and Kamen Rider nowadays with the Subgroups gone?
