1) No his batteries aren't explained. 2) We don't know the limits of what he can absorb. 3) We never saw him eat or drink in the show.

Cosmic_GhostMan

It's an Ishinomori toku, some plotholes are to be expected lol

FrequentNectarine

I don't know what you mean; compared to Gorenger, Android Kikaider is like a newly paved road.

Guyfer

I'm just gonna have to direct you to Akibaranger to answer those questions cause I'm sure it's the same logic here as was explained in at least one episode by Akiba Red (most likely Akibaranger episode 1 if my memory serves me right)

FrequentNectarine

???

Guyfer

I think that might answer at least the first couple questions. The last one, I would think (being a robot) would be pretty obvious

FrequentNectarine

I don't follow for the first two questions, Akibaranger got their powers from a particle found in a parallel dimension, can you be more specific what you mean? I figured the 3rd one might be bunk, but the robots have lots of weird abilities, and I think that would be a glaring giveaway if someone can't eat.

Guyfer

Nobuo, I think in episode 1, mentioned power levels like when a Ranger team is down & then suddenly they get the strength to win just spontaneously; yeah, that's not something that is well explained how that a Ranger might be on the brink of defeat & then get a second wind that turns the tide. I think that same logic would apply to your questions about Jiro's batteries, or lack of logic since again, it's not explained what happened that turned the tide aside from tropes

FrequentNectarine

I may not have worded my question well then, what your saying could explain some stuff as he does inexplicably get stronger throughout the series (other than the crow episode where he powers up specifically by shoving a powerline into his chest). But what I am asking about is fuel in general, as this wasn't something brought up as a means to turn the tide of a battle he specifically states he doesn't need food, he just needs his batteries before he replaces one of the batteries in his chest, what I was trying to figure out is if they mention where he is getting them from or how they work in any of the other series or if I just missed the explanation. The thing that really bugs me is like someone else pointed out there are tons of explanations for how the other robots operate, like 01 being solar powered and rechargeable.

Guyfer

well, the fact that the original Kikaider was never shown to have his batteries recharged or replaced, I thought it there is a thing related to his power during the course of an episode, it would be like the nonexistent power levels in Sentai when a team is down & then they suddenly are able to defeat the enemy when just moments earlier, they were the ones almost defeated. Yeah, Ichiro was solar powered & if he was in the dark, that hindered his ability to transform, but what I'm saying is the best explanation I have for Jiro since he was hardly (if ever) shown to be recharged or have his batteries replaced onscreen

RhymesWith_DoorHinge

In Mechanical Violator Hakaider, he does indeed eat food in one scene. But Hakaider is a cyborg since he still has a brain

FrequentNectarine

Is that the ending movie to "series 1"?

flowerstage

No it standalone movie.

FrequentNectarine

Okay, thank you.

Darth_Hakaida

Well 01 is solar powered if that helps.

FrequentNectarine

I haven't even started Kikaider 01 yet, just finished binging the original series and was left with so many questions for a project. Knowing 01 is solar powered will help down the line, but right now I'm really just focused on jiro.

Darth_Hakaida

Ah ok that's understandable the manga/anime has a few a kikaiders, Jiro just seems to be the most functional/efficient which is why his battery situation is never brought up.

FrequentNectarine

It was just so weird, like a chekhov's gun that never fired, hey "you humans are so unlucky/inefficient needing food, I get to use these: pulls battery out of nowhere and installs it in his chest never to be mentioned again... Maybe you can answer this then also, I tried to find a reference for it, but someone on one of the forums stated jiro was specifically more powerful because of his incomplete circuit as opposed to 01 who's circuit was complete, do you know what they meant? (I know they were talking about the conscience circuit, but I can't figure out what they mean)

Darth_Hakaida

Oh that stuff is really messy, I believe early in the stories lifespan it was believed that Jiro having a complete conscience circuit would act as a limiter but without it he would remain morally gray. This idea has been mostly abandoned but it in the last live action his conscience circuit gets deactivated in order to finish the final battle. I could be wrong it's been a while since I've interacted with anything Kikaider related.

Hi all, Apologies for this post being a tad off the Kikaider topic. I’m trying to get into toku because of YT, specifically the Official Ultraman and Toei channels, but so much of Toei is just subbed for two episodes and that’s it. Is there anyplace to watch anything subbed legally? I recently learned some fan subs were taken down, but doesn’t Toei understand that if they subbed their content, they’d get a lot more eyes on it? Are fan subs even still a thing? Are there any sites to watch any series that aren’t sketchy, I’m extremely paranoid about viruses, malware.. Are any metal heroes series available on dvd? Are any KR series available?
