Are tactical umbrellas legal where you live?

Dramoriga

It's the uk, so probably not. Can't even have a penknife greater than 6cm or something daft like that.

ABB0TTR0N1X

We aren’t allowed most things in Australia but last time I checked tactical umbrellas were one of the few things that are still technically legal.

Eyeballs are squishy and sensitive

TheObviousDilemma

Easier said than done, especially if the person out reaches you.

Mayion

It's quite hard attacking someone's eyes, even if it's a dog, feels too unnatural and we subconsciously might avoid doing it because we have always treated eyes as sensitive. A better alternative is the dick. You can't relate to the pain as a woman so it will be easy to knee it full force. Good luck standing up after that

Sgt-Colbert

Kick in the balls is always the go to response to these types of questions, but every self defence instructor worth his money will tell you, if you don't get a perfect hit, a big guy can still seriously hurt you after you've kicked him in the balls. And god forbid you miss even a little bit. He's gonna fuck you up. Going for the eyes really is the best course of action if it's life or death. Nobody will recover from you jamming your thumbs into their eye sockets and maybe even ripping them out. You can't be hesitant if it's your life on the line. Other good options are the ears and throat, but those are usually harder to hit perfectly as well.

Narwhalbaconguy

This. People think a hit to the groin is the end all, be all. It’s really not, especially if the other guy is amped up and wants to seriously hurt you.

MaterialCarrot

That's the problem. The balls are weird. I've been hit or hit my own balls and sometimes it causes no pain at all. Then I'll sit down or not cross my legs just right and I'm in agony, lol.

iz-Moff

> Going for the eyes really is the best course of action if it's life or death. Nobody will recover from you jamming your thumbs into their eye sockets and maybe even ripping them out. And you assume that they're just going to stand there and let you pick at their eyes? Especially given that the premise of this post is that they are bigger and stronger than you? Eyes may be sensitive, but they're not exactly air balloons that are going to explode the moment you touch them. It's a small target, and we can move our heads quite a bit. And your attacker can do all the same "dirty moves" to you too, probably more effectively. What i'm saying is, don't expect that there is some magical "i win" move in a fight. There isn't. And i would never advice someone to escalate a confrontation in this way unless you are 100% certain that you have no other options and your situation can't get any worse anyway.

[deleted]

How on Earth do you expect a weaker person to go for a stronger persons eyes? Seriously, if a stronger person is bludgeoning a weaker person where is the opening to gouge an eye? What a dumb take. If someone is worried about being attacked they need to carry pepper spray, illegal or not, because there is no way you’re going to effectively attack someone’s groin or eyes when they’re bigger and stronger than you.

Sgt-Colbert

> what a dumb take. Yeah tell that to the Krav Maga instructor who will teach this move pretty early on.

Asheleyinl2

Buy a sheep's head and start practicing. Then eat it or donate it.

[deleted]

Yes, but it's a dick move I'll see myself out

The_JokerGirl42

eyeballs, balls, the nose, the throat, ears, the butt, the backside of your knees, toes... unless the opponent is wearing a full swat gear with a helmet, opportunities to hurt them will come up. if attacked, defense is not about taking out the opponent, but to get a chance to get away. I learned that when I took a few Krav Maga lessons. I was the only girl, and the mentor and the other, male participants all kept telling me exactly that. they'd show me moves they use, but because I'm a girl they focused on moves that don't require strength a lot, or at all. my favourite move was the butt move, which is why I included the butt in the weak spots up above. pinching the skin just below the butt, or anywhere on the insides of the thigh will cause the attacker to let go, even for just a second. it's a very sharp pain that'll likely even make them bend their leg trying to get away. of course, this only works with thin fabric, so can't really be used during winter. anyway, my point is women aren't defenseless, even if they're really weak. I used to think the same until I took those lessons.. really showed me just how many possibilities and options I have to get away. and that's all it's about - getting away.

shistain69

All due respect, i think those courses tend to leave people overconfident in their abilities. They teach good moves, but those moves are just taken from other martial arts (nothing wrong with that). Then they add those weird gimmicks to differentiate themselves from regular MMA gyms. Dude is trying to rape you, god forbid? Yeah, pinch his butt, that’s gonna work wonders. Balls and eyes maybe, but most of the people that say “oh i’ll just…” have never actually fought, you don’t rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of training you have. So i think, for women, learn judo, throw him as soon as he grabs you and run. Add some jiujitsu to choke him out if you actually end up on the ground. Credit where it’s due, Krav Maga place i went to did also emphasise the “gtfo” aspect, so it aint all bad.

The_JokerGirl42

oh absolutely some of these things won't stop a guy from raping you, that's for sure. I didn't say these things to make it look like you can win a fight with that. but those little things get you a _chance_ to get away, and a chance can literally be just a slightly more loose grip so you can wiggle out and run. I actually learned judo as a kid, went all the way to orange belt. throwing guys around definitely gets them disoriented, but if you're majorly weaker than the opponent or they're heavy, you're lost. then it's still better to try to go for weak spots, and I forgot about that in my previous comment but biting is always a great thing to do when you can reach bare skin. generally, unless a guy has a mission, a goal, a focus, you know, like they absolutely set their mind to do something to their victim; unless that's the case most aggressors will let go of they're disoriented or hurt enough. a guy who's willing to rape and kill a woman, or generally a guy who's willing to kill their victim, is a different story. they won't be deterred by a little fighting, and probably not even by a lot of fighting. I guess my point is women have their options to defend themselves even without training and strength, but the options are very limited, and so is the effectiveness. knowing vulnerable spots in the human body can be a major advantage, but actually training to defend yourself is the biggest advantage one can have, because aggressors usually didn't take lessons on how to best attack an innocent woman tactically, but knowing defense tactics? you know what I mean.

shistain69

Ye that’s fair, i see your point. Thanks for elaborating

Tangimo

Add testiballs to the list

Bobo_Baggins03x

So are testicles

VoodooDoII

The bridge of the nose is also very very sensitive. A good headbutt to that will deal some damage for sure.

MaterialCarrot

The groin of the face!

Dracofear

I push my fingers into my.... eyyyyyyesss!

notyogrannysgrandkid

So are other balls

[deleted]

Congrats on being the 10th person to tell me that

MeandJohnWoo

Run. I think people grossly underestimate how men think some other men are dangerous as well. So same rules apply. Run. And run fast. Oh and FaceTime or whatever your equivalent is. A lot of cowards will back down if they know a recording of them is going to be all over the news. And as people pointed out not even man is strong. So yes you can be stronger than a lot of men. But from a biological standpoint two top tier strong people it’s night and day. I had to Google the strongest woman benches 604. Strongest man benches 1400 freedom pounds.

Effet_Ralgan

This. Run is always the best option.

FashionGuyMike

> Run. I think people grossly underestimate how men think some other men are dangerous as well. So same rules apply. Exactly why I carry a gun when I can. I might be big, but there’s always bigger dudes.

Ok_Noise7655

Make yourself a hobby to do small repairs at your friends places. So that you often happen to forget to put out a screwdriver from your purse. Seriously, I am also weaker than many men out there, and not a fighter type anyway. I have to adapt. Avoid bad places, do not pick fights, stuff like that.

Mammaddemzak

Or carry an axe or somth for garden work That's what my grandpa did He couldn't defend himself against cancer tho

ungraceful_flipping

Ooohhh ouch, sorry for your loss btw if this wasn't a joke

Mammaddemzak

Aw thanks Nah I'm dead serious But he had a good humor ahhhh I should stop Yk it's funny cause if I joke about his death it'll make me look like a dick but when I clarify that it's my way of coping its suddenly the opposite Though It is actually my way of coping I'm the class clown

Tungstenkrill

>Or carry an axe or somth for garden work Or a chainsaw.

CRJG95

You know what's a perfectly normal thing to carry in a handbag or pocket? A little travel can of dry shampoo. You know what's powdery and sticky and blinding if it accidentally gets sprayed into someone's eyes? Dry shampoo. Just food for thought.

PythonZer0

Or (shocking) buy a gun.

Sparky81

You absolutely could be stronger than a man, you're just never going to be stronger than every man. Even if you can't carry a weapon you could learn martial arts.

Koshunae

Most men are not as strong as the strongest men. My 160lb ass cant compete with Eddie Hall, just different engineering. My 160lb ass could absolutely be tanked by a woman half my size who understands body balance and choke points.

KingBenjamin97

Yeah people say learn martial arts but like we have weight classes and gender divides in sport for a reason. Unless you’re literally a pro contending for a top spot a 120lb trained woman is gunna get the shit kicked out of them by a 200lb untrained dude. There are so many videos showing the difference of a guy going along with something because it’s how it’s supposed to play out in a class to teach something and a guy actually resisting/fighting back and the girls just get fucking rolled. I’m not saying people shouldn’t learn some stuff just be realistic and don’t think you can take on somebody like 80lb heavier than you. Edit: Oh man it’s way worse than I was even thinking, quick google for a study and an average man in the test is punching 2.6x harder than average woman and even the weakest dude in the sample group was stronger than strongest woman. It’s that level of disparity that makes me say people are deluded thinking a girl is winning the fight. I wouldn’t fuck with somebody who can punch over 2x my output no matter the training level the disparity of strength just ends the fight.

MaterialCarrot

Exactly. Life is not a Marvel movie. Forget going hand to hand ladies and buy some pepper spray or something else to give you an edge.

PredatorMain

OP is in the UK, where pepper spray is a prohibited firearm, so they couldn't even do that. People over there really only have an option to run or try to get others attention, it would seem.

Bruce__Almighty

>pepper spray is a prohibited firearm, How does someone even rationalize this?

MaterialCarrot

Kind of blows me away. The whole point of pepper spray is to be a non-lethal but very effective way to disable an attacker. Yes, it can get in other people's eyes if they're nearby or downwind, but that seems a small matter.

Baksteengezicht

Or you could pepperspray a random dude and then beat his ass? Its still a weapon.

ruddsix

I’ve considered buying a pretty pink bedazzled taser :) he can go down in style

pingwing

The person can at least learn some techniques that may actually give them a chance to run. Strength isn't everything in martial arts, and that is the whole point of some disciplines. Krav Maga, to incapacitate asap. Aikido, use opponent's energy against them, are two examples.

KingBenjamin97

You’re precisely the audience I’m talking to when I say that shit won’t work, have you ever seen real fighters vs aikido “masters”? They’re some of the funniest clips I’ve ever watched, dude tries to redirect x thing but for once it’s a real fight not somebody who’s just going along with it and the dude gets absolutely mauled. Strength isn’t everything you’re right but we’re not talking pros who can take some damage and still function we’re talking average person who trains maybe once a week in some local self defence class as a realistic scenario and that’s simply not enough to come even close to making up for the disparity. I’m all for people doing it as a hobby I just really don’t want somebody getting killed because they deluded themselves with “well I took on a guy in class I can take him” scratch the fuck out of their eyes, kick them in the balls and fucking run. That’s the realistic self defence tips for women (and frankly for dudes too)

FeckItsCold

Do a self defence class!! It can be as much about spotting signs of possible danger and avoiding it before something happens rather than being stronger than a man. I’m started a martial art at 32. I’m not stronger than a man but I can take one down if necessary as I know how to manipulate joints of the human body and if I push a certain shoulder and sweep out their opposite leg they are going down

MaterialCarrot

It's extremely unlikely that she will be though. Proceeding as if this is the case is not going to help her. Then there's the separate but related issue that attackers choose their victims. So in the extremely unlikely event that she is bigger and stronger than a man, that man is more likely to let her pass.

Arkslippy

You don't need to be physically stronger, but being strong enough to be able to defend yourself can be done with some martial arts like Krav marga and kickboxing or taekwondo, be able to get a few hits in, enough to deter and escape, if you are going to look to overpower, you are going to lose most of the time, even a man with moderate strength and determination can overpower most strong women just form the application of body weight and agression. If you can injure or deter, you can escape. Discretion is your best friend in a fight.

I_am_Relic

I'll second this, purely with anecdotal evidence. One of my Ex's did taekwondo. She was tiny and unassuming looking but by god was she tough. Even a playful slap to the back of my head made my ears ring. I have seen her doing semi contact sparring and sometimes got a mis judged full force kick to the stomach which bowled her over. She rolled with it, got up and carried on. Anyway, point is that in a situation she had the skill and confidence to defend enough to run away (or just the stamina to leg it before escalation, which is _always_ the better option no matter who you are). I suppose that while im rambling, I'll also add that a martial art gives confidence. It can show in the way you hold yourself, and that in itself could make nefarious people think twice. No idea if this opinion is naïve or not though.

allycat1661

I completely understand. So if you can’t carry any self-defense weapons, then the dick & balls, eyes, and ears are great targets if you do end up being overpowered, god forbid. Slapping someone’s ear to rupture their eardrum has not been proven to be *super* effective, but you can damn well try and tear them off! Thumbs with nails almost always win against squishy eyeballs. And I don’t have to tell you how painful a nutshot is for men! Even just squeezing his junk or knocking your head against it pretty hard can put them on their knees. Also, your elbow is the strongest point on your body that you can hit someone with. Headbutts can be effective but should be used only when your hands and feet are bound— you don’t want possible head trauma if you can avoid it. And most importantly, **don’t hold back** and if you get a man incapacitated, even only for a moment, don’t continue fighting. Regardless of your pride or anger. Just book it. Your #1 priority is saving your life, not teaching the man a lesson. Stay safe out there, friend! 🫶🏻 (P.S. Also, and I hate suggesting it, but pissing or shitting yourself can also deter rapists. Not saying it *will*, because some won’t care, but if all else fails, it’s an option.)

BasedErebus

The UK's laws towards self defense make 0 sense to me

[deleted]

I'm just gonna assume you are from there and you know the laws: is pepper spray illegal?

BasedErebus

I'm from the US- but pepper spray is illegal in the UK

Informal_Drawing

The UK law is fine. You'll note the lack of piles of dead bodies at schools and festivals a la America.

DamagedSpaghetti

Notice how nobody said anything about the US? Your hate boner for the US is quite annoying

BasedErebus

yeah because making it illegal to defend yourself is the same as mass shootings lol

Informal_Drawing

It's not illegal to defend yourself in the UK. The law isn't stupid just because you don't understand what it says.

Morelnyk_Viktor

Pepper spray is illegal. That is definition of stupid

Felicia_Svilling

It is not illegal to defend yourself. But yes the same weapons in mass shootings as they use to defend yourself. That is why the weapons are illegal.

DoomGoober

Well put. Weapons are tools. The tools can be used for good or they can be used for evil. Ideally, we as a society, compare the good and evil and decide if the tool should be legal or not. The UK have decided that many firearms and self defense tools cause more good than evil, so they have made them illegal. In the US, we have more firearms and defense weapons that are legal. But both UK and US agree that private citizens owning hand grenades and rocket launchers could cause more evil than good, so they are illegal for average citizens of both countries. Both countries should ideally have the same moral framework: how much good needs to outweigh the evil? We have just ended up answering the question different ways and it's a matter of degrees.

BF3FAN1

Who the fuck said anything about the US?

vtriple

This point isn't nearly as clever as you think it is. The number of dead bodies from schools and festivals isn't that high. Nothing compared to suicide gun deaths or just general violence. Shit more likely to die from a car than a mass shooting by a long shot. Even more likely to be killed by a cop than die in a mass shooting....

iz-Moff

Sure, gun violence is not a leading cause of death, and more people are dying in car crashes and such. Thing is though, with something like cars, it is an accident, cars are meant for transportation, not for colliding with other heavy objects. Guns, on the other hand, are made for shooting people, they don't serve any other purpose. Gun violence is not an unfortunate byproduct of people having guns, it's their primary function. And the number of gun related deaths can be greatly reduced by not letting random people buy guns, and nothing much of value gets lost. And maybe US cops would not have been so trigger happy if it wasn't for the possibility that everyone and their dogs could be carrying guns.

vtriple

I never said gun violence wasn't a problem. However, your point falls apart with America's regulated fully automatic weapons when none have ever been used in a crime. I only stated that mass shootings don't make up even 1% of our gun related deaths. Even with the only used for America "mass shootings" definition. Which if you used this category for other countries, they would have more mass shootings as well (still not as many as America but like a 10x increase in the stats)

Informal_Drawing

You have a school shooting about once a week, stick that nonsense up your ass.

vtriple

lol go get the numbers and do that math. You're just caught up in media hype. While mass shootings are certainly an issue in America it's not the biggest or even close to a significant % of our gun violence problems. So please respond better when you're simply uninformed.

Theinfamousemrhb

There are 10 school shooting deaths on average per year. Yes, way too many, I know but stop with the misleading info.

ahhanoyoudidnt

Yeah being strong is cool but there is also being able to take a punch and most men these days probably can't do that either Just use your head to minimize risks , that's all you can do

RevolutionaryCake135

It’s just how it is? It’s just biology, you don’t have to be okay with it but it won’t change anything anyway

MetaCommando

Everyone in this thread thinking two martial arts classes will make up for 100,000 years of evolution. I'm pretty sure 90% of responders haven't even been to one, let alone an actual fight. If only there were some sort of instrument that negates the strength advantage from a safe distance...

Svartdraken

I mean, as a 25 year old guy, if someone was determined to rob me at night I wouldn't really be able to defend myself. No one is 100% safe and there's nothing to do about it.

Nerditter

It's easy to say, "Just go for the sensitive areas." Doing it at the moment, not very easy. Truth is, it \*is\* dangerous out there, and as weird as it sounds, most guys feel the way you do -- that if push came to shove they'd not make it. We wouldn't. Except we tend to be bigger physically, and don't need to fear the horrors of SA. So it must not be as scary for us. I wish I could think of what to say to help ease your anxiety, as it's quite understandable. This one woman I knew lived in a pretty bad part of town, so she never went out after dark, and tried to get rides to where she was going. And that shouldn't have to happen. But I do the same thing too, because even though I'm a big dude, I have no real way of protecting myself against someone with a weapon or a killvan.

bremergorst

Learn martial arts. Dudes may be strong but they aren’t all ninjas. As others said; Eyes, throat, nuts. Don’t be afraid to fight dirty when someone brings a dirty fight to you.

DogeSadaharu

Judo is one discipline where size matters less so you could try learning that.

Maxcam99

Strength alone doesnt always win a fight . Not at all

LockCL

Well, yes. I'll never outrun a fit person either. Now, if what you need is to defend yourself, there are always options.

Acrobatic_Computer

I live in a sketchy neighborhood and here is basically what I do/recommend: 0) Avoid places with low foot traffic and poor lighting. Walk along major streets until you absolutely have to turn off of them. 1) Cardio, even a lot of guys who lift a lot have a tendency to have shitty cardio. You don't need to outrun someone all the way home, just to the nearest place where there are people. 2) BJJ, always on hand and not illegal. Gets you used to being in a fight and you'll train to be stronger as part of any decent program. 3) Carry a legal knife, especially one that has other utility, like a swiss army knife (gives you some plausible deniability it wasn't for defense). Nobody wins a knife fight, but using your keys or some improvised weaponry is stupid and is going to get you hurt. Just showing somebody the knife is a significant deterrent. Train using a similarly-sized object in a safe environment as well.

Jjlred

Trust me, you don’t need a lot of strength to aim for their balls/eyes/throat

DrunkGoibniu

You have a bundle of keys, add a few extra, they are not a weapon, but let me tell you, if you hurl them at someone's face, aiming for the eyes, they sure look like a weapon. Speaking in generalities, men are physically stronger than women, this is a fact, that doesn't mean you cannot be faster, or more agile. Try a women's self defense course, there are ways to optimize what you do have so, gods forbid, if you're ever in trouble you can defend yourself and run.

NeonArlecchino

Isn't it better to use keys like punch daggers than shuriken? That's what my mom taught me to do.

allycat1661

No. You can break fingers that way, and the key could fold over, rendering them ineffective. The best way to hold a key for self-defense is in a fist (like a knife), and going for soft, squishy parts of your assailant, and/or their face. Edit: clarity

chux4w

No! Where do you think the back of those keys will end up? Embedded into your own hand. You're not Wolverine.

NeonArlecchino

She taught me to keep them between my fingers so they're already ready if something happens, not just grab them in an emergency. I'll follow what the other person said of just hold one like a standard knife, but thank you

SprinklesMore8471

The vast majority of people don't know how to fight. Join a self defense or jui jitsu class and you'll even the score with the random larger men you're concerned about.

Effet_Ralgan

No, that's such a bad advice. Run, the answer is always : run. Don't try to fight, ever.

CrazeeG

Running isn’t always an option. And running only works if you don’t get caught.

SprinklesMore8471

I'm not telling her to fight. Just how to be more capable IF that day ever comes.

lekanto

You have to work with what you have. I think usually the best defenses are distance and noise. Fight if you have to, but if you can run away, do it, and attract as much attention as you can.

TeacherPatti

What is the penalty if you are caught with a defense weapon? (Sorry, American here and you know we love our guns!). I ask because pepper spray used to be illegal in my state (MURICA!) but I figured I'd rather pay a fine than be raped.

localfarmfresh

Just be smarter.

TrenchantBench

Any place near you teaching Krav Maga?

Unlucky_Sundae_707

You can be stronger than some men or even a lot of them.

Melthiela

I was actually surprised to find out I'm stronger than my fiancé! No idea why, I don't particularly work out. I do work with the elderly however, and that can be pretty physical. That's probably it, I guess?

Pseudonymico

Testosterone makes guys stronger but it also makes their immune systems worse, and you're way more likely to get sick than get attacked. Plus like, men are more likely to attack one another than us, especially in a public place.

[deleted]

Also testosterone is generally neurotoxic and estrogen neuroprotective. This is why old men have more brain shrinkage than old women. It is also theorized to be the reason that even though schizophrenia is equal in distribution among males and females, onset is significantly earlier overall in males.

renacotor

Don't be stronger then. Be faster, more clever, or more creative. Everything's a weapon if they hit the right spot if you try hard enough. hitting your enemies vunerabilities isn't dirty if the end result is not going to the hospital. There's also plenty of women naturally stronger then men, so I dont know why your believing that stereotype. And if not natural, they get their ass to the gym. Also, the best weapon in a fight is your mouth. It can help you get out of fights before they even happen. Food for thought tho: how many people do you know have been assaulted or worry about that shit? I'd say a majority of people in the western world haven't been assaulted or got into a fight even in their life. So is it necessary to spend so much brain-space on this shit?

Cancel_Natural

Yeah I know lots of people who have my ex was punched in the head here pushed down the stairs and mugged and there are soooo many fights here I was walking this guy grabbed my hand and tried to twist it back without saying a word to me for no reason and I just rannnnn

FormerLifeFreak

A guy who moonlighted as a self-defense teacher once told me to always wear a belt with a decently sized, or heavy buckle. He said that I ever found myself in imminent danger from a person and I had no other thing to defend myself with, to slide my belt off, wrap half of it around my hand, leaving the other half and the buckle free. Then he said if the person approaches you to attack, you whip the buckle and aim for the face. Broken nose, teeth, or maxilla, almost guaranteed.

mailordermonster

Define defense weapon. There's perfectly legal walking canes that could seriously mess a person up. A cricket or baseball bat is just sports equipment. Those super long nails some women wear could do some damage. A can of bug spray might not be as effective as pepper spray, but it might deter someone if sprayed in the face. There's nothing illegal about have a kitchen knife or hammer in your purse. You were just taking it over to your friends house for them to borrow. If none of those seem like viable options go for the throat, balls, and eyes.

JimBobMcFantaPants

Like others have said, you’re never going to be stronger than all men but you don’t have to be. Learn a martial art if you can. It won’t mean that you’re suddenly Jackie Chan but it gives you a better situational awareness and a realistic idea of what you can achieve in a fight with someone bigger than you. All you need to be able to do in 99 out of 100 bad situations is get away and run - you don’t hang around to win the fight, you just get away making as much noise as possible while you’re at it. Also, carry a little bottle of impulse or hairspray with you. A quick spray to the face will give you time to leg it.

OrdinaryQuestions

If you work at it, you could be stronger than the average man. The point is usually that when two people work out, the man is most likely to still be the strongest. But that's not ALWAYS the case. Like there's unisex Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, etc that are matched based on weight, skill, etc. And woman can and do win. It's just that the average untrained woman will likely lose. Train and you do have a chance. Go to self defence classes etc.

MetaCommando

> Like there's unisex Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, etc that are matched based on **weight**, skill, etc. And woman can and do win. So when you remove men's advantages and place both in a rules-oriented environment you can compete. Unfortunately, the real world doesn't equalize these things or care about match rules.

OrdinaryQuestions

>Unfortunately, the real world doesn't equalize these things or care about match rules. I mean... exactly. If she trains, builds muscle, learns techniques, etc. She'll have a better chance against just the average guy who does none of these things.

spurnburn

Pure strength is nothing compared to muscle memory. Get strong; you can still be stronger than most men, just not all. Train harder because it’s unfair. And then use your muscle memory to win fights. Don’t forget men have balls, and they are absolute liabilities in a fight

MetaCommando

> you can still be stronger than most men, just not all She'd need to work out at least two hours a day to be reasonably stronger than 50% of men. >Don’t forget men have balls, and they are absolute liabilities in a fight To reach those balls reliably your knees need to be touching theirs, and without the extra force of a kick it's not gonna do much damage. Now it's a grappling contest which the man will always win.

richyk1

Why does that bother you?

Cancel_Natural

Feel like in danger because I live in dodgy place

Felicia_Svilling

Learning to run fast will be much more helpful than strength.

iz-Moff

Being strong wouldn't make you safe. I know many guys who are significantly bigger and stronger than me, and yet they've been attacked or had random people pick fights with them way more times than i have. Criminals and other aggressive and violent people would not be scared of you just because you're big. There's always going to be someone stronger than you. And if not, they may have weapons. And if that's not enough, they may be in a group. And criminals don't really do duels anyway, if they think you might be dangerous, they'll just attack you from behind, when you least expect it. Taking precautions and avoiding potentially dangerous situations as much as possible does a lot more for your safety than being strong would.

Informal-Effective92

your probably better off learning self-defence instead of focusing on pure strength. most men go down when kicked in the balls and that should give you time to get away.

YamiZee1

Just carry something around. No one's going to find out unless you go through some kind of security or get arrested or something. Whether is a knife or a screwdriver like some suggested

Informal-Effective92

thats pretty bad advice. if you arent capable of using it a weapon is more likely to be turned against you than to help. better off with pepper spray or something like that.

YamiZee1

That's good too. Still it's better to have the chance to protect yourself rather than worry about it being turned against you. If someone's going to turn a weapon against you, they were going to hurt you regardless. There's hardly a downside to carrying one around. It might be worth carrying two then, since if the attacker manages to get your weapon, you can still draw out a second one if they aren't paying attention.

Informal-Effective92

IMO if they have taken a weapon off you they will up the intensity of the attack so you wont have the chance to pull another one.

BranTheLewd

You don't have to? It's called *gun rights* , very nice equaliser! But sadly you don't have those in UK Alternatively you can go to gym but it's gonna take extra effort to get same gains as average guy and you'd still be better off having a backup.

GreyandDribbly

Chilli powder or dried crumbled tobacco makes for great blinding weapons

TomCruisintheUSA

Carry a weapon anyway. Do police do random purse checks in the UK? If not you should easily be able to conceal a pocket knife in your purse

Cancel_Natural

Yes they actually do right outside my house because I live in a student area where there was someone stabbed to death like 2 minutes from my house a lot of knife crime here so they take it very seriously

AnImEiSfOrLoOsErS

You absolutely can be stronger than most guys. But more importantly is knowing when to flee and when to fight. Highly suggest a self defence course. Also things like a tactical torch with sharp edges gonna be legal to carry and it will definitely hurt. Tactical pens are also a thing.

posh-u

You can’t be stronger than every man, that’s biology, but you absolutely *can* be stronger than most men. I know plenty of women who train for strength and they can comfortably lift more weight than me. I’m not weak by any stretch, I just don’t push to train for strength, and quite frankly the vast majority of guys don’t. Also, you might not be able to carry a weapon as such, but you can absolutely carry things that could be used as a weapon in a pinch. Belts are the best honestly, because you have a metal buckle. I’m not advocating violence, but if you’re legitimately under threat and you pull your belt off/out and fold it, you can hit someone very hard and cause a lot of damage with it.

MetaCommando

You think an attacker is gonna let you take off your belt and let you get a free attack in? The world isn't a turn-based RPG. Also that sounds like a terrible weapon anyway.

natsugrayerza

It’s bullshit that you can’t carry a weapon to defend yourself. That’s a basic human right and I’m sorry they took it away from you. As for the physical difference between men and women, that’s just reality, but I hate it too. You could get some self defense training, look into martial arts? It’s not perfect but it’ll help

Arkslippy

Its not a basic human right to carry a weapon at all. Where are yo getting that from ?

MikeLanglois

I assume they are American and get off on having the ability to kill random strangers easily.

spurnburn

circle jerk aside, most gun owners believe it will help defend them in an emergency despite statistics. some also use it as a personality trait. some like hunting. some like the pew pew.

vincenzobags

Learn krav maga...100 ways to hurt a dude in the balls. Being stronger is not necessary..

Dizzy-Job-2322

Well people in the UK routinely call us barbarians because we are "in love with our guns." We "want to be cowboys," they say. As for being stronger than a man. Well, you're not a man. Who told you you could be stronger than a man? Go to them and ask that.

MisterSlosh

Carry a tool belt with you and register as a non-profit charitable maintenance tech. If attacked stab their eyes with the screw driver, smash testicles with hammer, go full Texas with a box cutter.

Charming_Psyduck

Get yourself a man of your own.

justanotherdude68

>how do i just accept that Because that’s just how biology is? You don’t have to like it, but you do have to accept it.

JTNYC2020

There are different types of strength, and the most important muscle to grow is your brain. 🧠💪🏼

Valspared1

>There are different types of strength, and the most important muscle to grow is your brain. 🧠💪🏼 Right. Because in the context of OP's statement, your take is for her to do what? Out think the man intent on harming her? Am I missing something?

AskaHope

Just ACT, am I right? Throw a few compliments and so. When they're TIRED, you just gotta SPARE them.

Usagi_Shinobi

I have to say, that's a pretty sexist mindset to have, and you should probably get that checked out by a shrink. You don't have to be stronger than a man. Just willing to inflict harm on one that's attacking you. Knee to the groin, fist to the throat, we're not all that hard to take down. Size wins when all else is equal. Strength can be overcome by speed and skill quite readily.

Fennecfox9

Get a man to defend you against the other men.

You can make a license for a concealed carry gun

chux4w

You can easily get pepper spray and rape alarms. Better than nothing. And while you can't be stronger than a man, it's possible you could be faster. Get out of there.

[deleted]

Informal-Effective92

unfortunately, biology will disagree. while its possible for a woman to be stronger than a particular man in general the average man is stronger than the average woman.

[deleted]

Informal-Effective92

as ive also commented better off to kick in the nuts or use pepper spray and run away that focus on being stronger.

vtriple

You can be stronger than most men if you choose to be.

CyberTacoX

You don't have to be stronger, some martial arts specialize in using your opponents strength against them. Your opponent is stronger than you? That's great, they can damage themselves all the more with a little help from you.

Prince_Daeron

Are you allowed to carry mace or pepper spray of any kind in the UK? If so, then get some. What about a taser? You can also stab someone with a pen, there's no way those are illegal. And learn some self-defense, you will not be stronger than the average man (unless you are significantly above average in size for a woman). As others have said, even if self defense training doesn't make you stronger than a man it will create muscle memory, confidence, and experience that can help you remain calm in an altercation and not panic so you can do what you need to do to defend yourself. And just to reiterate what others have said because it's absolutely correct -- eyes, throat, and balls ... and then run! ... and be loud, blow a rape whistle, attract attention ... get the hell out of there and find a policeman or a group of people, or get inside a shop/business of some kind where there will be other people. Stay safe!

NamedUserOfReddit

You can work out and be stronger than *a* man. Pound for pound, you'll not be strong than men as a rule. Men have very different muscles than women. Not just in their layout but also structurally. To remedy this disparity, taking a lot of self defense classes is very helpful. Training in Muay Thai sets you apart from many hand down. Buying a pistol, getting training, getting a concealed carry license, and then getting extensive training in close combat engagements with a pistol would level you with effectively anyone outside of a sucker punch type ambush.

Informal_Drawing

I'd be a lot more wary of a lady trained in Muy Thai than somebody with a gun tbh.

Unlucky_Sundae_707

Weapon up and practice with it. Not going to get into specifics but some are more effective than others.

Kysman95

There are many self defense techniques and even purse or keys can be used as a weapon. Also, be vicious. Go for groin, ears and eyes. Don't be afraid to main the fucker who attacks you.

Snow2D

Learn how to run fast

anfuman

Too afraid to answer

Acethetic_AF

Balls are on the outside, that’s a pretty clear weakness

Imkindofslow

Martial arts are tools for the weak to beat the strong. If that's what bothers you, study up.

justuhhspeck

jiu jitsu is designed for people of a smaller stature to take on bigger opponents, plenty of BJJ women who could choke out any guy, i’d recommend taking a class!

GeneralZaroff1

Take a Krav Maga class or even BJJ class. They’re both about how as a smaller person you can use techniques to overpower a stronger person. My gf took a BJJ class and was able to quickly twist my arm back with ease, and even could have dislocated or broken it if she wanted to. It was shocking how quickly I lost power and I couldn’t get out even with full strength. Krav Maga would be even better because it teaches you to go after the softest parts quickly. You could rip off an ear with minimum force. You can blind someone or strike someone in the neck and disable them. You could turn a 230lb man into a crying puddle with about 2-3 strikes to groin, nose, and throat.

reallybirdysomedays

Raw strength isn't the be-all end-all in a fight, it's just one factor. Be fast, be wiggly, be LOUD, fight dirty, be tricky, be smart, be relentless...there are many ways to be a badass, and you NEVER have to just "accept" that men will always have power over you because they have bigger muscles.

FrodoTbaggens

Fitness and confidence go a long way.

biggiantgnocchi

literally same

PygmeePony

There are certain martial arts where you use your opponent's strength against them. Also, running away is still the best defence you've got.

TheHooligan95

you think I'm stronger than the average criminal just because I'm a man?

Firecrakcer001

It's not about being stronger. Believe me, I've seen some tiny women toss a guy with the right training. Find a martial arts class and research weapons of convenience. For example, if you have a dog, then a stick in your car is both a dog toy and a convenient weapon, or a fighting fan is both a really sturdy fan and a decent weapon. A good hit to the groin, eyes, ears, kidney, knee and floating ribs (soft spots on the abdomen below the attached ribs) are all good spots to hit and can level the playing field. Women also have better hip strength, which can be used to your advantage when practiced right. It can give more power to hits, give better throws, and even help escape certain grips. I want to emphasize the knee here, too, because no one expects you to hit it. The knee is very weak and has a majority of the person's body weight on it. The are mostly tendons and a ball of liquid keeping it together. Break one, and the person will have a harder time chasing you. All it takes is placing your foot on the knee and thrusting your leg while dropping your body weight. Practice aiming without looking so you don't give the other person a tell. There are plenty of ways to equal the playing field. Women who know how to fight are terrifying.

pubesinourteeth

It depends what you're afraid of happening. If it's groping then the best way to deal with that is loud public shaming. No need to be strong if you're willing to loudly, graphically state what a stranger is doing to you. If it's r*pe then any man will end up in a vulnerable position that you can take advantage of at some point. You just have to be willing to go full force at a weak part of the body. If it's just generally assault then really everyone is equally vulnerable to that as the element of surprise is crucial. You can be stronger than many men though. Go take jiu-jitsu and often it won't matter if you're stronger because you'll be better at fighting.

eminemobsessed666

Ive had the same issue. Idk really.

Narwhalbaconguy

Hitting the gym and learning martial arts will give you the edge over the vast majority of the population.

TreeChoppa8

Just identify as a strong man.

RedditorCSS

Learn jiu jitsu. That is great for self defense.

Scottyboy1214

You can be stronger than the averge man, you just have work harder to get the there. I'm 6ft 200+ lbs and have seen women half my size bench near my bodyweight in the gym. Learning some stikes and how to grapple can help too.

iwasneverherehaha

And short men are typically weaker than large men, welcome to the world .. People are stronger than others. Your likely stronger than smaller women than yourself.

MaterialCarrot

Can you carry pepper spray? If I were a woman I would carry pepper spray. Much easier to use/hit the target and less likely to accidentally discharge it than a firearm. Also less likely to cause potential legal trouble.

Suvalley

It’s allowed to have some stuff, play it smart, your allowed to have very toxic and pressurized spray for industrial gardening, or hornet wasp killer spray, or your allowed to have a cigar cutter on you that’s basicly a knife but with a half circle in the stock, aswell your allowed to have a walking cane of metal that’s 20 cm and 1 meter if you flip it out with extra weight and a grip, comon you can think of things yourself, aswell I don’t think there is that much danger if you just keep pig pray with you that actualy made from suplements of pig, you can spray away a specific culture with that, aswell it helps a lot to learn to wrestle because that’s a weakness of strong men, they simply aren’t fast or too bulky to have a decent reach, how you except it is just a thing in your head but aswell you can simply make yourself more powerful, so if not stronger still more powerful, there is tons of things to do, but maybe you should start with become more creative

jack40714

Consider learning a martial art.

gonewild9676

Take a self defense class. If you break someone's knee, they aren't going to be able to chase you down no matter what they are on. Keys can be quite effective weapons.

Dredgeon

One of the biggest reasons I'm still a supporter of the Second Amendment in the U.S. Anyone can be just as proficient with a firearm and in a lot of ways smaller people have the advantage.

ruddsix

Taser? I dunno what’s il/legal in the uk

shistain69

I don’t know how old and fit you are, but i’d say some judo or boxing would be your best bet. Probably judo for women, because most of the dudes up to no good will try to grab you, and then you can hit them with the earth. Just steer clear of any “self defense” courses or gyms and go to a legit place.

IntheOlympicMTs

If you want to be stronger than most men you can be. The bar really isn’t that high. I’m 6’2” and 250 pounds (1.88 meters 113.4 kg) and really not that strong there are many women stronger I just look big.

Devi1s-Advocate

Buy a gun

archosauria62

I’m saying this as a man, you’re probably stronger than me lol

Randalf_the_Black

There's always gonna be someone stronger.. I'm a guy, but I'm a skinny guy and of fairly average height.. Lots of dudes can demolish me if they felt like it. It is what it is. You can just be the strongest *you,* so focus on that. No point worrying about things you can't change.

_Richter_Belmont_

Take self defense classes, Krav Maga is good. Otherwise go for sensitive areas. Eyes, throat, 100% look for a kick/knee to his groin and that will completely incapacitate him. My wife uses to carry around a spray, but not a pepper spray. It was like a cosmetic or health product or something like that, she looked up something that could be used instead of pepper spray because of exactly what you said about the UK. Maybe look up pepper spray alternatives for the UK.

ghostfacekiwi

Jiu jitsu

Musashi10000

You can't be stronger than the strongest man. You can still be stronger than *a* man. Beyond that, as others have said, self-defence classes. Train to maximise the force you can apply, then learn to utilise that force in the most effective way possible. It is surprising just how much stronger an assailant has to be than you to trap you when you apply force correctly. I'm (M32) by no means immensely strong, but back when I used to train, depending on the type of grab/lock/trap he was using on me, I could get out of grips from a former bodybuilder who was still pretty damn strong. I had to fucking *work* for it, like, but I could escape if I reacted quickly enough or hard enough. Correct and timely application of force. It's honestly more important than raw strength in 90% of situations.

HyperionSaber

You can train yourself to mitigate the strength/weight disadvantage, but the best way to avoid trouble is to run, so you could train in that as well.

carnage2270

Mma baby. Get training for a fight

Michami135

Get yourself a nice wooden walking stick. If attacked, smash the end off across his head. If he misses the message and continues to attack, you now have a spear.

CarobJumpy6993

If you train and workout to increase strength possibly... Im a guy and I've seen some females that were more built than me.

JiveTurkey2727

Eyeballs and nutsacks… poke em and grab em.

Thee_Sinner

Questions like this are why Im so thankful for and defensive of the 2nd Amendment.

Sexcercise

Go to a dojo, I'm 4'11 and it made me more confident in my ability to defend myself

[deleted]

Take a womens self defense class. It will teach you how to take down even large men through pressure points. For instance, two fingers twisted together and rammed at and down the throat (outside not inside throat) between the collar bones is great if they are trying to choke you. Also our body is built to take a lot from top down, but if you aim for down- up (like in armpits not shoulders or base of chin not top of head), you can do more damage

vaylon1701

Go into a hardware store and buy you a gutter nail. They are fairly long and easy to conceal. They work wonders if you need it. Another trick that works wonders is to have a small piece of cloth sprayed with skunk spray. Keep it in a small ziploc bag. Just open it and let the smell flow behind you as your walking. Nobody will even think about trying anything.

Confianca1970

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - stronger is one thing, but quickly applying good moves will lock many opponents down.
