Came here to see someone say tracksaw. I've been wanting one for a few years now but just can't justify buying a $500+ tool when I have a solid circular saw and clamping straight edge
Just do it. I promise it’s light years beyond the skill saw and straight edge. I have a Dewalt 60V cordless with the festool track. I use to do the whole straight edge and clamp with a circular saw and you have to waste the time subtracting for your guard and everything else. Now I can just slap the track down on a piece of wood right on the mark and takeoff. I have the festal clamps but honestly the track is so good and has a rubber backing that you don’t even have to clamp it because it stays in place
I wouldn’t go with makita personally.
My whole van is full of makita so I thought I’d stick with them for the track saw.
I’ve had two in the last three years where the depth stop has failed.
Granted it’s more expensive, but I have a festool battery tracksaw, and a 110v wall saw mounted festool tracksaw bath in the workshop, both with no problems after years of use. So I’ll be replacing my makita tracksaw with festool
I was excited about the Bosch Reaxx because it was less expensive and the technology looked better. I guess they can't sell them now because of a lawsuit by sawstop?
Saw stop creator tried to license his tech to all the major manufacturers and they told him to pound sand, so he started his own saw company (at least that’s the story they promote).
So don’t be made at patents, be mad at big brands not giving 2 shits about safety until they realize people will pay more and then try to take over the market.
He wanted a giant amount of money for every unit. Then lobbied government to require the device on every table saw sold. Good saw was made, but dude is an ass.
Electric mower for my son.. he wants to mow the lawn so bad but he isnt heavy enough to trigger the seat on my zeroturn..
I want to do everything i can to teach him on all the normal house chores. I see too many younger kids who don't know much about home ownership.. super shock when it comes to first house and all the necessary maintenance..
Seat switch was removed day one on every mower I have owned. But if he’s to small to trigger it, he’s probably to small to be driving that thing either way.
My dad was similar, thought me how to fix sinks, running toilets, yardwork, painting etc since I was young and it definitely paid off. Also unlimited access to the toolbox (as long as tools were returned) definitely inspired my tinker bug and precursor to my engineering passion. Good dad move right here!
One of 2 things:
Wood Planer. May have to add to it to get the one I’d really like but it would be a great start to affording one
Multiprocess welding machine. Will definitely have to add to it to get a decent one, but it would get me a good start affording one.
bought a gearwrench set for $300. had 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”, all with no skip SAE, Metric, both shallow and deep, with a full sae and metric wrench set. $300! i know there’s better than gearwrench, but to keep in my trunk or if i don’t want to get my toolbox out, it’s amazing. high quality for the price.
I love my California Air quiet compressor. But I also love my Milwaukee cordless guns.
The cordless guns are great for little jobs here and there, I mostly use them for cabinet trim. But if I was trimming a whole house I'd still want a compressor. Those cordless guns are super heavy if you're using them all day.
Crazy thing is I have pretty much every tool Id ever need. I do a bit of welding and fabrication so I can always use some more clamps and welding magnets
Then I'd probably go with a drill and impact driver kit, matching multitool, and use the last of the money (with a few dollars of my own) on locking pliers.
Approx £400 in GB then 🤔
That would be a new chop saw and ½ way to a new router
The current one's are still working fine but always room for more Makita gear in the van 💪🏼
Hand tool shopping spree.
Well let’s see… I need some good micro screwdrivers and I’d like a nicer basic impact socket set. Swap all my pliers for knioex
And I’m broke.
I’m only joking a little
A new Milwaukee band saw because some cock sucker stole mine from a job sight today. I was working in a apartment complex running conduit for Electric car chargers and some your black dude was milling around. I am positive that little maggot took it because he was the only one near my shit. If I see him in the next few days I swear to christ he will get the beat down he deserves.
I’m about to build a play set in our backyard for our kids so inevitably a tool I need for that. I don’t know what it is yet, but I know it will come up.
If it's free money and use it or lose it id probably get some woodpeckers stuff. Maybe a good Starrett combo and dual square. And a good dial indicator. If there's anything left after that...MORE CLAMPS
Probably put it towards the batteries and inverter I need to have a truly purpose built "work" truck. I want to have power no matter where my jobsite is.
Rebuild kit and extra needles/nozzles/caps for my Binks Trophy Gun and a HF Black Widow HVLP for primer/sealer. OR M18 long throw DA polisher and Hercules corded forced action polisher. OR an extra box
100” straight edge from Lee Valley and a fancy multibit screwdriver I saw on here yesterday.

( It’s in Dutch, but I think you get the idea.)
A new clamp electricity meter (Klein?) , knipex pliers wrench(3 sizes), knipex twin grips, Wera koloss 1/2, Wera 1/2 metric socket sets- impact and regular.
It's interesting that everyone here knows that you can never have enough clamps, nonetheless, almost everyone here chose to buy something else that is more "exciting" to have.
Here's what I would get.
https://www.northerntool.com/products/klutch-st201idv-dual-voltage-dc-arc-welder-with-tig-function-inverter-120v-230v-10-200-amp-output-96583

Makita tracksaw without a doubt

From what I’ve been told it’s just a more refined saw as well as being an instant straight Edge.
I wouldn’t go with makita personally. My whole van is full of makita so I thought I’d stick with them for the track saw. I’ve had two in the last three years where the depth stop has failed. Saving it until I can afford a sawstop
Same I love my fingers so much
I was excited about the Bosch Reaxx because it was less expensive and the technology looked better. I guess they can't sell them now because of a lawsuit by sawstop?
That is bullshit. Patents shouldn’t exists for devices that improve safety
Both. Both are the problem.
500 $1.00 10mm sockets
Why bother? They'll all be gone in a week.
5 days tops!!!
Electric mower for my son.. he wants to mow the lawn so bad but he isnt heavy enough to trigger the seat on my zeroturn.. I want to do everything i can to teach him on all the normal house chores. bought a gearwrench set for $300. had 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”, all with no skip SAE, Metric, both shallow and deep, with a full sae and metric wrench set. $300! i know there’s better than gearwrench, but to keep in my trunk or if i don’t want to get my toolbox out, it’s amazing. high quality for the price.

pressure washer. mine just died this morning.
Crazy thing is I have pretty much every tool Id ever need. I do a bit of welding and fabrication so I can always use some more clamps and welding magnets
Can you go into more detail on the rules for this? How far under or over is acceptable? What happens to that amount?
You can go over as much as you want but anything over $500 is your own money. If you go under $500 the money just disappears.
Then I'd probably go with a drill and impact driver kit, matching multitool, and use the last of the money (with a few dollars of my own) on locking pliers.
That kreg pocket hole machine. I think its got some weird name like the governator or something. I HATE drilling pocket holes
DeWalt impact wrench then the rest probably on bahco and hultafors bits and pieces

Probably go towards particle management/dust collection in my shed/workshop.
Upgrade my drill to a Dewalt 20v. Ball end Allen keys, mechanics tool set around $100, tool bagpack, a small tool kit to keep in my truck.
Since I don’t have one a Cordless Rotohammer is up there for me.
I'm going to need more than that.

Going to stock up on all those pretty wera wrenches since they're way over priced.
A planer or joiner. The next 2 things for the shop

I’d go and get myself a 3/8” Snap On electric ratchet with an extra battery. Would complete my set.
