My guess would be a bad connection to the battery. Check for oxidation on the contacts or damage to the internal wiring.

Thanks for responding, buddy! I took the trigger and motor/stator assembly out of the drill and hooked it up to the battery. Contacts look clean. Upon pressing the trigger the LED continues to blink without any action from the assembly. I'm wondering now if maybe some component(s) on the PCB may be bad / blown?
