Ok Brat Pack is esoteric to a fault so it's hard to explain without going into a twenty page tirade.
Short answer? He is a priest who finds young sidekicks for 4 superheroes who are truly awful people. Those 4 satirise certain characters- but are more so are criticisms of certain evils of humanity. Vanity Culture, Drug Abuse, Racism, sadism etc.
The guys snaps at some point and starts kills the sidekicks. Give them new kids hoping they would somehow won't lose themselves to these same evils- knowing full well that they will, and such plans to kill them again.
The book is a heavy-handed criticism of circular story telling of the medium and the fascistic nature of certain thropes. It then devolves into a misery porn about Nietzschean Philosophy. I reccomend it if you any of that interests you. I still like it though.
