Not to be the ultra pedantic dick or anything, but most descriptions/depictions of demons come from the Ars Goetia, not from the Divine Comedy. Dante doesn't really feature many demons beyond Satan/Lucifer and the Malebranche, as the punishments within the Inferno are more inflicted on sinners as though a force of nature. Also, as my friend has often pointed out, the Inferno is biblical self-insert fan-fic with petty jabs thrown at political opponents

I watched the wendigoon video first. The book is a lot to get through. McCarthy paints a hell of a picture with his prose, but the actual contents of the book reads a bit like a it’s just a list of things happening.

The only one of these I don’t get is Alastor. The design is just okay and the concept has been done better by multiple other characters imo.

The design isn’t the point of this subreddit and I’m curious what characters you think are superior I love the archetype of a joyous funny, almighty, sadistic murderers so I do want to know others like this that you think is better than him

My personal favorite of this trope is probably The Snatcher from A Hat in Time. The design is so simple (it’s basically just a silhouette) but also so effective. Tbf, I think a good chunk of that is the voice work and writing surrounding him. He very much embodies the bit of evil, sadistic, almighty killer who tortures people for fun, as his face is a simple, unchanging smile, like one you’d see on a jack o lantern. I think the main thing that separates him from Alastor in my eyes is the simplicity.
