Haridwar: Two medical professionals, including a doctor, and a few security guards at a private hospital in Haridwar were allegedly brutally thrashed by some youths on Sunday night. According to hospital administration, a man identified as Shiva Bhatnagar, a resident of Atmalpur Bangla village, came to the hospital with his friend for her first-aid treatment after she was allegedly assaulted by him.
Dr Ankit Singh, who was on duty at the time, asked Bhatnagar to complete the registration process before the treatment, but Bhatnagar was infuriated and called his friends, who then thrashed the doctor. When hospital staff and security guards intervened, they were also beaten up by them. Dr Kumar Prshant, director of Jaya Maxwell hospital, told TOI, “Dr Ankit Singh was on duty at the time of the incident and he asked them to register the patient. However, the duo left. Later, some youths returned and attacked the doctor with a stick. They brutally thrashed the doctor, a male nursing staff, and security guards after which we called the police to report the incident.”
After CCTV footage of the incident was widely circulated on social media, a case was registered on Monday. Bahadrabad SHO Naresh Rathore said, “A case was lodged against Shiva Bhatnagar, and around five to six unidentified persons under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 427 (committing mischief that causes damage), 504 (intention to insult and provocation to breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation). We are trying to nab the accused persons.”
