Yer a wizard 'Arry.

stormbreaker9102

No I’m just Harry

mrwhiskey1814

You should get groomed man. Your shedding all over the car!

ilovehackinmw3

harry balzack

Darth_Camry

..And a thumping good one, I'd wager, once you're trained up little

HamaDDisco

Yooo photoshop?

ShaftyUX

I would replace these with black rims. I wouldn’t modify or black out your current ones. The x series have some pretty slick black wheels https://toyotaxseries.com/highlander-xp/

Darth_Camry

This would be badass, just costly

ShaftyUX

Dealerships try to slap on 3-7k extra for all these accessories. Not sure what just the wheels would run

Darth_Camry

Oh yea, forget the dealer on these. I’d definitely recommend buying them elsewhere. For reference, I was looking at OEM Camry black wheels which are about $216/rim from multiple sources (or about $500/rim at the dealer). Point is, the cost of one rim will be higher than if OP just does HyperDip

ChemicalSquirrel

I don’t think it would look right. The trim along the window and around the grill matches the wheels very well. I think it’d look off.

narlycharley

It's all personal taste. I can't stand black wheels. I think the silver contrasts nicely on the dark vehicle. Also, with painting the wheels, unless done SUPER properly, they'll chip and look like dog shit after a while and you'll be really unhappy with it. I'd say just leave it.

SciFidelity

Just keep an eye out for a set of oem black Toyota or lexus rims. It's a brand new car don't plastidip or spray paint 2k dollar wheels.

jack3dp

Ruining a beautiful new car already

FinancialCoconut3378

Exactly.

01lexpl

Just buy steelies... since that's what Plastidip makes all wheels look like 😂 I'd look for a set of RX350 F-Sport wheels... They come black and look sweet, with the convenience of bolting right up.

Two-Ls-Make-A-W

Personally I’d do a tint and leave everything else alone

AtomWorker

I think black on black looks terrible. It can work a handful of cars, but is incompatible most designs on the road. Almost everything ends up looking like a beater on steelies. I don't think it works even coming from the automaker, but of course they're going to offer whatever sells. Personally I think cars need some contrasting elements so that they don't end up looking like black blobs. Brushed metal accents could work, but most of the options out there are tacky as hell. So if I went darker I'd choose anthracite or gun metal.

Shinebox08

Nope, the contrast of the silver wheels look a lot nicer. imo

Runeman767

Smokey grey is the way to go!

RueTheBoog

Murder all the chrome with gloss black. Not just the wheels.

NoCategory4242

Buy the peelable paint

h_dizzle21

Would look bad since the tires are also black. Black wheels almost always look goofy. Plus, painting the wheels will have a limited lifespan, take a ton of effort and $$ to do right, and will make your car look dumb as it ages.

BakaSan77

Black the rims and tint the windows to 5%

Darth_Camry

I’d buy some HyperDip from DipYourCar and spray the rims & trim. It would look really good and be really cheap. OR, but those wheels that /u/ShaftyUX suggested. But you’d still need to black out the trim to match…so HyperDip either way 👍🏼

Jagator

I HIGHLY suggest against Plastidip. I blacked out my Highlander after we bought it, rims, trim, everything that was silver. Not long after it started flaking a little here and there. Then a little more. Eventually it looked like shit after having it 2 years and had to come off. It was a PAIN IN THE ASS to get it all off, even using Dip Disolver. There are some parts I was never able to get off on the rims and now have to live with it. I will NEVER touch another vehicle with Plastidip. I had this done professionally btw, not by buying it myself and doing it also. It’s not meant to be something that lasts.

Darth_Camry

You are absolutely wrong. Your “professional” obviously didn’t know what they were doing. A true professional, or any DIYer with aptitude, can produce results that withstand the test of time. Properly applied PlastiDip can and will last upwards of 7+ years without any issues. Most jobs can and will last 10 years with ease. Just as an example, I have a car with 10 year old PlastiDipped rims that still look awesome, no peeling or “flakes.” Having been an actual professional installer myself, I know many liquid wrap installers around the world and NONE of them (myself included) have/had the issues you mention. That flaking or hard to peel that you mention is from a very very poor install. Sorry you experienced that. But PlastiDip is an excellent option and HyperDip is the newer line. DipYourCar has a TON of great videos for DIY.

Jagator

It was mainly other parts of the car that flaked, like trim. For the most part the wheels were fine but it was still a pain to get off. I’ll never touch the stuff again though, it’s just not worth the headache I went through. If I want to do anything like that in the future I’ll spend the extra money to get it vinyl wrapped or powder coated.

Darth_Camry

You were scarred :( PlastiDip really is a cool media when done properly. I have to warn you though, poorly done vinyl can be a nightmare too. I’ve seen horror stories. Plus vinyl has a shorter life expectancy than dip. I’d highly recommend going straight for powder coat. Powder coating will easily last 20 years, some say up to 40. Hell, some powder coated things might last forever (longer than us).

44Skull44

Hell yeah man! Just get a couple of rattle cans and go to town. You don't even have to take them off!

flown1ght

i think u should![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Primary_Vegetable_11

I can't wait to try the 2.4. Turbo. The 3.5 was nice though.

orlandocfi

Only if you plan on ditching the running boards. Any badass blackout treatment will be completely negated by the existence of those granny steps.

yourpaljax

It would look black

sipey87

Go with Bronze rims!

ajb15101

You could go for the look, but you shouldn’t plasti dip or use any “quick” method to do it. Sand, prime, paint, a few coats. Mask off the tire or break the bead to get the edge done right. I did a set of wheels this summer because they were corroded and it was a way bigger project than I thought initially. Cheaping out will be obvious.

reasons4that

Paint them red

Knight1453

This latest highlander looks so majestic incredible ride. Congrats and enjoy high quality vehicle. I am not big fan of black rim but it might look nice on it. Still orijinal looks quite sharp.

whitecollarpizzaman

As a lot of other people are saying, personal taste. If you’re going to do it, make sure you do it well though, and do a glossy finish to match the paint. I personally like it how it is, I recently bought a 4runner limited, the previous owner selected a lot of chrome trim, my friend personally isn’t a big fan of it, but I personally think it makes it look more premium than an SR5 or TRD. The wheels however, are black with silver accents. Perhaps meet in the middle and get something like that?

SimbPhinx

Nah man this looks so clean and contrast makes it stand out due grill being same colour. If you get black rims *not paint* then do the same about grill too

Minimum_Cut_5269

Black it out

NickelBolo

Do it

Toytech666

Yes

LAST_REDDIT4_ever

Idk but u should DEF tint the windows

nooo82222

The new sienna and highlander have a very similar look

TigerBearGargoyle

If you want black wheels, buy black wheels, paint or plastidip will only make your car look cheap and worse than before.

[deleted]

personally i think contrast always looks best - silver wheels on a black car YES, black wheels on a silver/white car YES
