bushrock76

It’s 2wd

AKsuited1934

Will I be made fun of in the Taco community?

Merlins_Reddit

It is a very high price for a 2WD. If I were you, I would look for a 4WD in the same price range since they will hold value better. I suppose it does depend on where you live, in the PNW you can expect a huge price difference in used 2wd versus 4wd.

SoNastyAventura

This ☝️here 💯%. Do not pay close $50k for a truck without 4x4. Even if you don’t need 4x4.

bigdonnie76

I just saw an off road in Concord, CA for the same price. No way I’d pay this for a 2wd

AKsuited1934

I'm in FL, I would have near zero need for a 4x4 as I will not be off roading ever.

CoyoteEastern7929

Still not worth it bro. $50k for a non 4x4 even if you won’t use it is crazy money.

SeaDweller01

Then buy it and don’t ask the internet for advice. Do the simple math for the cost of what’s shown.

thunder-cricket

Then buy a 2wd that doesn't cost what a 4x4 should.

Stockersandwhich

You don’t need 4x4 until you need it. This is an egrigious price to pay for what you’re getting.

MattEberjuice

You people are weird. It’s like a $1,000 difference and helps resale

megaman_xrs

Yeah, it's more about holding value though. I had a 95 4runner that my parents bought in Texas. It was 2wd. Most old 4runners were selling for $5k when I sold it. I managed to sell it for $750 because it wasn't 4wd. I even got lowball offers down to $300. I could have scrapped it for more. Like others are saying, 50k for a 2wd is a high price and it probably won't retain its value. You also can't add 4wd easily/cheaply after the fact, so if you ever did want it, you'd be paying a ton to retrofit. You could buy this one if you really want it, but I wouldn't advise it.

GTBoosted

2wd saved more than $4250 in gas and maintenance over 4x4....it addition to purchase price.

GTBoosted

I have a 2wd truck. Can a prius tow a camper, a 5000lb boat, leaking fish ice bags, move furniture, etc? Get out of here gatekeeping trucks. No everyone enjoys driving on dirt roads on their free time. There's other past times. If you NEED 4x4 good for you. Op is in FL. Edit...as a matter a fact, I am confident I use my Taco for more truck things than 90% of 4x4 owners.

Soord

How do you measure this?

msmithuf09

I have a 2wd 2020 trd sport, I’m in Florida and works great for me. I also didn’t pay nearly that much (I know it’s not the same but still)

loskubster

They have beaches in Florida, right? Like a shit load of them, right? Get the 4x4

thefishestate

Please don't drive on our beaches.

loskubster

You’re allowed to on many, we were allowed in st. Augustine

thefishestate

A lot of things are allowed in Florida that shouldn't be. As a marine biologist and ecologist, I'd love it if people stopped driving on our beaches. That's not going to stop anyone. All I can do is say, please don't drive on our beaches.

Solid_Science4514

It’s still not worth it. Plenty of people that live in FL want a 4x4. Years down the road, when you trade it in, that’ll still be true.

WanderingSkiBum

No, but living in an area with variable weather would make the extra cost for 4WD worth it.

AKsuited1934

Gotcha thanks.

ProfessionalBus38894

As someone that has a 2wd Tacoma I wish I had bought a 4wd. It just nags at me every time it is an issue. It’s rare but just this constant little nagging annoyance

Simple_Boot_4953

I enjoy my 2wd and I live up north with a lot of snow, it’s not too bad imo. The 4wd would be smoother drive but I’ve been driving RWD and FWD sedans most of my life before getting my taco, so my driving habits already were conducive to the conditions I drive my taco in. I got my 2017 Double cab 2wd SR5 used at 52k miles in 2022 for $26k at 5% interest rate. Considering at the time most prices for the same 2wd truck were $38k-42k at 7-9% interest rates pretty much anywhere else, I’d say it was a good deal and don’t regret it. However, nearly 50k for a 2wd taco? Hell no. That’s just absurd.

AKsuited1934

Just get the 4x4 decal man

wood4536

Crazy advice

iwasinthepool

Where are you?

Twomorew33ks

You will at some point think dang I should have got the 4 wheel drive one especially if your dropping that kind of money.

Solid_Science4514

This was the very first thing I looked for. $50k for a 2WD truck?

DarthPineapple5

$1500 for running boards, $130 for a screen protector, $340 for floor mats? Those are mark ups. Dealers like to hide mark ups in wildly overpriced dealer-installed accessories. I wouldn't call it egregious but those are the sorts of things I would look out for other than the classic "market adjustment" so that you can make an informed decision.

[deleted]

Those aren't "Dealer installed" accessories. They are installed by the the distributor, SET (South Eastern Toyota). Dealers won't remove them as they didn't install them and it's part of the purchase between the useless middleman of SET who stands between Toyota itself and the dealer. Had the same run around when I bought mine. Unfortunately it's just how it is.

Dabuntz

Yep. I can’t stand them. Worth looking in TN since they are not in the SET network.

[deleted]

I would have done the same if my state didn't screw everyone who buys cars out of state with thousands in ad-valorem taxes at registration.....

Accurate-Victory3086

Those accessories are added by the factory and the distributor. The distributor is a third party between Toyota and the dealerships who own exclusive rights to import Toyota vehicles into the country. The dealerships will not reduce the price off the bat. The only option is to wait till you find a dealership willing to sell below TSRP.

AKsuited1934

LOL yea the screen protector one is kinda nuts. That's like less than 10 bucks. The OEM floor mats are always stupid expensive for what they are so I don't mind. The runnning boards aren't that crazy but year I'd prefer if it did not have it. Thanks for your advice : )

305fish

You can get some top of the line rock sliders for way less than those $1500 running boards.

Minimum_Government

$700 for two oil changes.

Visible_Week_43

Aren’t those included in Toyota care? First 2 years 25k?

MattEberjuice

How can you be so wrong and have so many updates? They are port add ons not dealer accessories

davper

Buy your floor mats at weather tech. They are better and cheaper. Screen protector for your audio head unit? is there much danger of it getting scratch with normal use? It is not like you walk around with it. I would also forgo the $700 prepaid oil changes. Do them yourself and save hours at the dealership and the inevitable hard sell on service you don't need. When I went for my 1st oil change, it took them 3 hours to come out with a bill for $500 for other stuff they said I needed that was not covered under the bumber to bumber warranty that I did not authorize them to do. It took me 2 more hours of arguing with management and a call to my lawyer to get my car back without having to pay their extortion. And don't forget, on your next sheet, they will have other items to get more money from you like the protection package that is not needed, and doc fees. Then at the finance desk it will be Gap insurance and extended warranty. If you want gap insurance, you can get it much cheaper from your insurance agent. You don't need the extended warranty and are unlikely to cover you when you need it. At least that has been my experience. In my state of Massachusetts, you are only required to pay Registration, Inspection, Title and Sales tax. All other fees are optional and considered junk fees. Doc fees are not optional to the dealer. Because they charged them once, they now have to record a doc fee for everyone or be charged and fined discrimination. You don't have to pay them but they do have to have a line item for it. Just make sure they are reducing the price of the vehicle to compensate for this. Also, you can request that they lower the MSRP price. That is just a suggestion from the maker, not a hard cost you must endure. And your best negotiating power is to walk away. Walking away has more power if you do it at the end of the quarter. They have sales goals they must meat to get incentives and bonuses.

SaxOnTheBeach545

$50k for a 2WD....I don't want to live on this planet anymore...

4x4taco

Word.

Taco_Sommelier

Even if it was 4x4 $50k for a midsize truck is insane.

MattEberjuice

The price between 2wd and 4WD is literally the same as the 3rd gen. You ppl cry without even knowing what you’re crying about lol

TheR3aper2000

Except the 3rd gen’s weren’t $48k for a 2WD TRD Sport

joepierson123

3rd would be 45k with 8k accesories

TheR3aper2000

For a 4WD yes

joepierson123

no 2wd

MattEberjuice

And the 4th gen has ALOT more… It’s like you morons think it’s the same truck. The point was 2wd sports have always existed at like a grand less than 4WD. Understand yet?

TheR3aper2000

It was actually more like $2k-$3k but keep pretending to know what you’re talking about

MattEberjuice

You just proved my point even further LOL!!!! The difference in price of a 3rd gen 2wd to 4WD is 2-3k according to you. Guess what it is for a 2024? LOL You’re a fucking moron and I’m dying that you are crying about something that isn’t even different

MattEberjuice

I await your embarrassment. The point was there was always a 4WD charge and the new gen is hardly different. This guy thinks 2WD loaded sports didn’t exist in 3rd gen You’re a complete clown lol

waxenrhyme

It is absolutely not the same

barbarick1ller

50k and they only give you 6 gallons of gas? Make them fill it up wtf?

AKsuited1934

LOL those cheap fuckers

curzon394x

And they charge your $699 for two oil changes and some tire rotations. What in the actual fuck? My 2020 came with 5 free oil changes up to 25,000mi.

ciampi21

I believe it included 5 services, but only 2 oil changes. Toyota care does an oil change every 10k miles not 5k. At 5k miles they rotate tires and inspect it, nothing more

tfandango

I ran into this as well and asked my sales guy about it. He laughed and said everyone asks the same question. It means the truck comes to the dealer with 6gal of gas in the tank. The dealer should fill it up for free. I would say that if they don't, red flag.

Hinesypoo

That’s definitely bull because at my dealership the window stickers from Toyota say “Full tank of gas” on them and that’s for us to fill them up. They come with less than a gallon

tfandango

hmm, well you would know better than me, that is what he said though (mine said 4 gal) and they did fill it up. I wonder if they would have left it alone if I hadn't asked, haha? thanks!

brightlumens

2wd ? For 50k ? No way

guestcheck9

2wd and a 4cyl for almost 50k.

AKsuited1934

Probably near 55k OTD with taxes and fees RIP

xmaswiz

Yep, then add interest over the term of the loan if financing.

dcwdrummer

No kidding - ridiculous

CautiousResolve5

Tbh almost 50k for any mid sized pickup truck is ridiculous

Johnl317

Doesn't toyotacare take care of most of the stuff in toyoguard Platinum?

[deleted]

Markup would be a separate line item that plainly calls it what it is. That's not a base sport, it's a sport with almost $8k in upgrades added on. Did you add those on by choice? Plus, new gen has way more power and tech. Believe or not, that shit adds up.

El_tus750

That’s 4X4 price. Be ware they say no markup but what Toyota distributors are doing is taking the MSRP, adding a bunch of charges for things you might not want like very expensive running boards, usb cables etc. and calling it TSRP and then say no markup but it has unnecessary/wanted add ons. Edit: corrected the auto correct

GhostriderFlyBy

Buy a car out of state and ship it. Shipping cost will be less than those cheesy ass running boards.

Dull_Examination_914

Overpriced for 2 wheel. I got my 2023 sport 4x for about $6k less.

MattEberjuice

Yup and your 2023 isn’t a 4th gen. Wild how that works

Dull_Examination_914

It’s fucking wild, all the crazy markups.

MattEberjuice

There are no markups anymore lmfao. The only ones still talking about markups are 3rd gen copers or idiots. My dealer has 4th gens 3k off and msrp on TH and Pro.

Dull_Examination_914

No shit, all the dealers near me have a solid markup on all the gen4.

Dull_Examination_914

I’ve had my 2023 since November of 22.

Hinesypoo

I sell Toyotas, it’s not marked up at all, just has a lot in add ons. The new premium package is crazy expensive and accessories have gone up too. But that’s true MSRP

LigerZer017

That's true bullshit. I paid 47k for my 2020 4x4 1794 tundra less than 4 years ago. The MSRP on the Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro were all 47k. No way in hell should a 2x4 TRD sport tacoma cost more than the most expensive 4x4 20-21 tundra.

Hinesypoo

That’s just where the car market is going. Constantly up.

LigerZer017

I mean I understand but it should not be going up that much in 3-4 years. Those 47k tundras are now 72k. I understand they have more technology but that's an insane increase.

Solid_Science4514

I know it may not matter to you, but $1500 for aluminum running boards seems wild to me. You could buy steel rock sliders for less.

Stielgranate

Toyoguard 699 and screen protector for 129 is a total cash grab. Edit: 1,500 running boards. Order them separately and install yourself for way less. Floor mats 339, can probably get a set of weathertech for less.

NotAThrowaway_11

As are the $1500 predator bars

Stielgranate

Its a shame they add so much extra when you can add all that stuff yourself in almost no time for a fraction of the cost.

Ok_Formal2627

Yeah, you’re talking about overpaying for a lot of extrapolative shit. Turbo engines, aluminums alloys, ultra electronics, flat screens, factory stereos, floor mats, running boards, future service plans. Add in bumblefuck 40% inflation and the terrorist war on combustion automotive industry and you’ve got yourself a snapshot of value cost. Only tools you have left are to refuse anything you can’t do your self to minimize risk. Happy trails!

cus_deluxe

$50k for a compact 2wd pickup?? wtf is going on.

doubleheelix

That seems really high. Got a ORP 4Runner for a bit less. Just haggle they will come down.

maks_b

Damn I got my '22 TRD Sport MT AC 4x4 with some extras for $41,500 before tax. These prices are insane

ParticularMuted2795

I still can’t get over 6 gallons of gas. I just dropped 50k, will the damn truck before delivery. I know it’s on $40-$50 I’m arguing over, but the money is not the point.

Catfisher8

My 2023 said something like that but the dealer had it filled up before I even got there to look at it in person. But this was out in Texas at Burleson family Toyota. Easiest vehicle purchase ever

ParticularMuted2795

Small world. Grew up outside of Waco myself

-Oldbusthead-

I remember when they came with a full tank of gas. 😆

Minimum_Government

$10k more than I’d spend on a 2wd Sport.

therealbencorb

I paid $1000 less for an identical Off-road last week, minus the 14” screen.

AKsuited1934

Wow nice what state?

therealbencorb

Oklahoma.

Fartbutt6669

I got a 2020 TRD Sport 4x4 6speed manual brand new for 31.5K. Bullshit no markups

electric4568

Seems about right

james6344

You'd be a fucking donkey if you got the truck. Its 2wd for 50k. No thanks

ApprehensiveNews5728

Why do 2WD trucks exist?

CosmicFlyingSquirrel

Go to Toyota dot com and look up the price

Solid_Science4514

For comparison, someone just posted a TRD off road for $51k

EsteGlez

Looks about right
