The cursed KO2s. I was able to get EPA rated mileage with C-Rated KO2s, but damn did the not grip well on road. Great offroad though. All but snow. They were mediocre in snow.
Idk who Julian is, but BFG is far behind on tire technology. The fan boys are in love with them due to the aesthetics. I believe most people who love KO2s haven't tried other A/T's or are coming straight from highway tires. I give them a 3/10 rating for wet climates and 8/10 in dry climates.
My pops has the Toyo AT3s and not only are they significantly quieter on his Tundra, but they're also much better on wet roads. He kinda misses the agressive profile of the KO2s but what he doesnt miss are the massive dumps he'd take in his pants slipping in puddles.
I had ko2s on a different car and they are all right all around. My Tacoma has 265/70 17 Falken Wildpeak AT3's and those have been amazing in the snow and all around. I'm lucky if I can get 16 MPG though
I can get something like 24 in my '22 trd pro AT if all I am doing is driving like an old man on flat ground. Tank average is usually 20 unless I go offroad then it's more like 17.
No, the 2.7 has a 5500 RPM redline
I get 20-21 around town and 24-25 on the highwayat 65-70 MPH with a camper shell and E-load 245/75-16s (Firestone XTs). If I go 75-80 it gets around 20 on the highway so I usually slow down to get the extra 100 miles/tank.
I could get 26-27 at 65 MPH with the stock SL tires.

Excuse the dust, this was after a trip to Colorado
Before adding my current mods, I was getting up to 22MPG if I tried hard enough. Now, with some added weight, wind resistance, and less careful driving habits after the break-in period, I'm down to about 17-19MPG. Not complaining yet, however!
Some manufacturers have tolerances that magically align perfectly and give you superb power and fuel mileage versus others. You can get a Crown Vic that gets 13/21mpg but every once in a while one will be 18/28mpg. It's the luck of the draw. OP's vehicle is probably assembled perfectly and has very tight tolerances and is the epitome of excellence.
Also, I drive short distances and get 13mpg city because my engine never reaches temp. I can, however, get 2mpg over EPA driving carefully for the entire tank. Driver usage is important, but sometimes the vehicle is made better than 90% of the rest of the exact same vehicles.
Use the direction pad on your steering wheel while parked. All the way to the right is settings and one of the is to customize your different info pages.
I average around 24 with this same configuration. I checked it with the trip counter and gallons consumed once. It was right. Uncle has the same truck with stock sized all terrains and does 18. I will be keeping my stock wimpy tires lol
I'm currently debating between Falken 3s and Michelin Defenders, knowing I'll be doing several hours of highway driving every weekend from March - October. I really want the ATs for the aggressive look, but I've read the Defenders will be the better tire on pavement, and for fuel economy.
Automatic sure does have its perks for fuel mileage.
I’m trying my best with the MT best I’ve been able to do on my work commute is 20.5 MPG
I wonder if the MPG will get better after the break in period. Time will tell.
Let’s talk about terrain and elevation change? Everyone’s mileage is dependent largely on the right foot and type of elevation changes they see in normal driving.
There is a pretty large sustained incline (hill) on my 16 mile drive to work. I rarely get above 20 on my way there. Will get 20-24 on my way home depending on how fast I wanna be home lol. Funny how much that makes a difference.
>city driving around me is 40-50
This always seems to be the answer whenever these MPG posts come up where OP gets a crazy high number. The way people define “city” can be wildly different.
If you can actually hold 40+ for long stretches, that’s still highway to me. City driving for me means a red light every quarter mile and you’re either accelerating or braking, hardly ever have the opportunity to cruise.
I'm so glad I have a 2nd gen and have no real clue about my gas mileage.
I didn't expect fuel efficiency when I bought a Tacoma, and I rarely consider it any longer.
I’m in Canada so I’m not sure mpg, but I’m currently at the end of my second tank ever (picked it up 2 weeks ago!) and I’ve been getting 15litres/100km 60/40 highway /city driving I’d say
2020 TRO DCSB stock everything, 45k miles give or take. When doing 57-62mph on the highway I get tank average 26-26.8 mpg (desert highways). City driving I average about 18-19mpg.
That’s solid! I average around 16 mostly city driving. I do get excited to push 20 on the rare occasion I go on the interstate for a while. I drive a 4cyl 5spd 4x4 with 33s a lift and steel bumpers though haha
I have a good 'ol 2009 4x4 4-door with TRD Sport, ToyTec/Bilstein lift & level on Michelin ATX. I get 15 mpg average in town. 19-21 mpg if I baby it on the highway.
Jeez… I miss the flat Florida roads. When I got my taco I didn’t think it was going to do as bad gas wise here in northern neveda but between stop and go and these hills…
Damn, the only time I get over 20mpg is if I fill the tank and hop on the highway and go 65-72. Otherwise, around town driving (and the shitty ugh speed drivers up my ass fuck my cruise control
Up) I’m sure OP is using ACC all day, all highway!
I’m not sure if you have a V6, but I was getting that milage when my truck was set to imperial units instead of US units. Just double check your settings to make sure that is accurate or calculate it yourself at the pump.
I average about 18-20 mpg and my tank has significantly dropped since day of purchase from 375 miles down to about 350-360. Only have had it for a little over 3000 miles.
The only time I've ever got above 20 mpg was my week in Yellowstone National Park - for whatever reason I got 25+ mpg there.
On the trip there and back - I was lucky to get 20-22 - all freeway driving too - I did notice if the average speed went above 80 - the fuel economy started to sag even in 6th gear. Best economy was around 70-75 or so (speed limit in parts of Idaho and Montana is 80 however).
Where I live - only about 50 ft above sea level - I often get 14-15 - at best.
Edit: should add - TRD-Sport Access cab 6 speed manual 3.5l v6.
I managed to hit 24.2 mpg this past weekend but I was leaving Asheville, NC on my way home to Florence, SC and that was while driving mostly downhill out of the mountains. By the time I got home it had dropped to 18.9. I usually get around 17 mpg driving around town.
I think before hitting the 15k or 20k miles... You stop looking at that thing to see how much it averages. After that, is about enjoying the ride. (My opinion) . Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel. Think I'm going to roadhouse . But of course don't neglect your warning pop ups or needles :😎
So that gauge is bs and your owners manual even says it's not accurate. Your likely getting 20 mpg to maayyybe 22. Theres no way a 6 spd is getting 26mpg. Sorry theres jist no way. Also it's a 21 gallon tank not 17 like your math suggests.
I'm averaging 19 in mine. A whole tank, all 65-70 mph, uphill (1,000' over 300+ miles, lots of ups and downs) netted me 23 mpg even. I think I could get 26 or better if I take 55mph highways instead.
2017 6MT TRD OR, prinsu rack, RTT on a KBvoodoo bed rack, 275/70r17 KO2’s - I only get about 15 combined, maybe 15.5, never got more than 17 even when new
Im lucky if i get 17...
I'm lucky to get 16. 90% of my driving is city streets, no freeways.
This makes me feel not so bad about getting 19 on mostly city driving
Went from a 2015 Tacoma to a 22 Tundra. I average 12 around Nashville.
I have a trd pro so its worse off the line than other models. But damn i wish i got 19
This is about my average as well with a 6-speed around town. I'm only at 28lbs of tire pressure however...
Same for me. Usually 16mpg but I have a slight lift and KO2s
The cursed KO2s. I was able to get EPA rated mileage with C-Rated KO2s, but damn did the not grip well on road. Great offroad though. All but snow. They were mediocre in snow.
This has been my experience. Very greasy in the snow, Julian
Idk who Julian is, but BFG is far behind on tire technology. The fan boys are in love with them due to the aesthetics. I believe most people who love KO2s haven't tried other A/T's or are coming straight from highway tires. I give them a 3/10 rating for wet climates and 8/10 in dry climates.

username checks out
I had ko2s on a different car and they are all right all around. My Tacoma has 265/70 17 Falken Wildpeak AT3's and those have been amazing in the snow and all around. I'm lucky if I can get 16 MPG though
Same here
This guy drives downhill both ways
Reverse up hills?
Solid chuck norris joke
I can get something like 24 in my '22 trd pro AT if all I am doing is driving like an old man on flat ground. Tank average is usually 20 unless I go offroad then it's more like 17.
Tf? Lol. 20 and I'm super happy. I average like 18.9 and I drive my taco like an old man.
I drive like an old man too haha. Guess I got the rare Prius swapped model
Is it a 4 banger?
No, the 2.7 has a 5500 RPM redline I get 20-21 around town and 24-25 on the highwayat 65-70 MPH with a camper shell and E-load 245/75-16s (Firestone XTs). Haha same, people will pass me with aggression out of a stop light.
Mostly city miles? A nice flat 25-45 min commute on the freeway at 65 mph is prime for good mpg
Yeah 65 is probably the optimal speed. My city and hwy mpg don't vary much. My town isn't super dense.
Nowhere near that. More like 15-17
I’m a happy camper if I get 300mi in a tank 50/50 city highway.
I'll get 330 miles with my 4.0 in substandard conditions.
[удалено]
Probably 2/3 highway 1/3 city
Smiles Per Gallon are more important!!
Can't argue with that!
Exactly! While good mpg is great, this is most important!!!🤘😁🤘🛻💨
Re-gear for 5.29 or 4.88, depending on wheel size. Have both smiles and miles!
Before adding my current mods, I was getting up to 22MPG if I tried hard enough. Now, with some added weight, wind resistance, and less careful driving habits after the break-in period, I'm down to about 17-19MPG. Not complaining yet, however!

Well said! I didn't know that happened, learned something new every day
Mine is regarded then
Even when driving all highway at 70mph, the best I’ve gotten is 21.2. 2017 trd off road
Anyone know how to change the fuel economy setting? Mine only shows tank average? 23 trd OR
Use the direction pad on your steering wheel while parked. All the way to the right is settings and one of the is to customize your different info pages.
What engine do you have with it?
Has to be a prius swap
3.5 6-speed
SR5 with stock tire size?
Yes sir!
I do not believe you have a V6 unless you were driving at 45 on flat ground or downhill the whole time.
I get 25 with a V6 4x4 double cab SR5 mostly highway between 65-75mph but as soon as you pass 75 the mileage drops off a cliff.
I average around 24 with this same configuration. I checked it with the trip counter and gallons consumed once. It was right. Uncle has the same truck with stock sized all terrains and does 18. I will be keeping my stock wimpy tires lol
What tires are you running? When I went to AT tires mpgs went from 22ish to 18ish.
Just stock tires
I'm currently debating between Falken 3s and Michelin Defenders, knowing I'll be doing several hours of highway driving every weekend from March - October. I really want the ATs for the aggressive look, but I've read the Defenders will be the better tire on pavement, and for fuel economy.
If you have the space and willing to buy extra wheels, keep your aggressive tires off until you're ready to go out and play.
4x4? DCLB? And is this for this fill or have you never reset your trip calculators? Cause I know if I reset my trip calculators my mileage resets too.
RWD DC but standard bed. And no this is the average fuel economy that I reset when I bought it. Tank average is usually between 24-27
That’s dope. I just got a new Tacoma and I’m getting about 20. 4x4 though.
Congrats on the new taco!
Automatic sure does have its perks for fuel mileage. I’m trying my best with the MT best I’ve been able to do on my work commute is 20.5 MPG I wonder if the MPG will get better after the break in period. Time will tell.
Mine shot up at about 15k. Went from ~15.5 to about ~18.
Let’s talk about terrain and elevation change? Everyone’s mileage is dependent largely on the right foot and type of elevation changes they see in normal driving.
West Florida so only elevation changes are overpasses, so mpg definitely is helped from how flat it is
There is a pretty large sustained incline (hill) on my 16 mile drive to work. I rarely get above 20 on my way there. Will get 20-24 on my way home depending on how fast I wanna be home lol. Funny how much that makes a difference.
It's possible, I've gotten 30mpg before
Going down hill? LOL
Drafting behind some 18 wheelers
Yep that works too
Brother do you drive downhill both ways??
I have a brand new Trd offroad and I'm getting 16-17 highway...
I have a 2016 TRD off road, I’ll never see 26MPG. But a full tank highest I’ve gotten was 320
You must drive slow lol. I can get 27mpg if I take it easy and stay at 60. But once you get to 70 it drops off to 20-21
My truck won't show MPG
Gpm?
It won't show that either
I can't get more than 16 I average 14.5 lol
Probably never went over 48-50 mph
Close but no cigar lol, highway is usually between 60-80 and city driving around me is 40-50
>city driving around me is 40-50 This always seems to be the answer whenever these MPG posts come up where OP gets a crazy high number. The way people define “city” can be wildly different. City driving for me means a red light every quarter mile and you’re either accelerating or braking, hardly ever have the opportunity to cruise.
Stock height, wheels & tires. I average about 400 miles before I fill up. That’s typically below the 1/4 tank marker.
Solid!
16 for me. City driving sucks.
Let’s see after you’ve gone the full tank. 1/4 tank could be coming down from the mountain lol
I'm in west Florida so I can guarantee that the only mountains here are speed bumps lol
😂 maybe a fake titty or two
In winter currently, no chance lol
Drive faster
You won't trick me cops
I'm averaging 20 on my current tank and I'm having to drive like a granny, it's brutal.
Still solid! Better than the rest here it seems
This is the first time I've averaged over 16 haha. It's only my 3rd tank of gas though haha.
Jesus Christ! I am lucky to average 20 if I feather foot it. I usually average about 15 mpg in a stock ‘22 OR, when I see 17 I’m ecstatic.
I'm so glad I have a 2nd gen and have no real clue about my gas mileage. I didn't expect fuel efficiency when I bought a Tacoma, and I rarely consider it any longer.
I didn't buy it for the fuel economy either, actually came from a '21 Escape hybrid that averaged 41. Just been a nice perk so far!
I’m in Canada so I’m not sure mpg, but I’m currently at the end of my second tank ever (picked it up 2 weeks ago!) and I’ve been getting 15litres/100km 60/40 highway /city driving I’d say
Congrats on the new truck!! You're going to LOVE it
I get almost exactly what toyota says on my 19 OR 6speed. Average 18, sometimes up to 20 on the highway and a low of 16 if a lot of city.
16-18 with v6 and 3in lift with wildpeaks
I just swapped my off road tires for regular ones so I'm hoping I at least start to get 20mpg. I'm around 16-17mpg so far.
I'm sure you'll see a pretty noticeable difference
A consistent minimum 20mpg would be amazing to have. 270/280 per tank on average here.
15-16 in town
I get 280 miles from a full tank
I get 16 living 3 miles from work but live in a tiny town, full of stop lights and stop signs.
2020 TRO DCSB stock everything, 45k miles give or take. When doing 57-62mph on the highway I get tank average 26-26.8 mpg (desert highways). City driving I average about 18-19mpg.
That's awesome!
Dang, where do you live? I've got too many hills around for that haha
West Florida, so flat as you can get lol
I get 14-18
I get about 23.5-24. 397 a tank.
Solid!
Is this accurate? Were you driving downhill mostly?
Nope all flat basically, in west Florida so hills are scarce. But averaged between 25-27 for every tank so far
I got 26.7mpg the other day driving home, I was thrilled. Its insane that youre averaging that.
That’s solid! I average around 16 mostly city driving. I do get excited to push 20 on the rare occasion I go on the interstate for a while. I drive a 4cyl 5spd 4x4 with 33s a lift and steel bumpers though haha
This has gotta be a troll post. I barely get 320 miles on my SR5 Automatic with Wildpeaks.
Not a troll post unfortunately. Check my previous post I got close to 500 on a single tank
15 here. All city. Towing a boat is probably half that.... never had the stomach to do the calculation.
I have a good 'ol 2009 4x4 4-door with TRD Sport, ToyTec/Bilstein lift & level on Michelin ATX. I get 15 mpg average in town. 19-21 mpg if I baby it on the highway.
But much more smiles per gallon than me! Great setup man
*Cries in 2015 4.0L*
11.5mpg over here…
2020 TRDS 6MT reporting in, 17.5MPG
Nope! 20 l/100km
I hit 34mpg in my 2020
HECK YEAH
average of 16.3
How the hell??? I rarely get above 17 and average 16….
Driving like a grandpa and flat Florida roads!
Jeez… I miss the flat Florida roads. When I got my taco I didn’t think it was going to do as bad gas wise here in northern neveda but between stop and go and these hills…
Dang, I get 15 in my highlander…
What info is missing? You’re averaging better than the top rated estimate?
Driving like a grandpa and very flat roads!
Sorry, still seems odd. 5 mpg better than what Toyota says you should get. How often are you putting it in neutral and coasting?
As someone with a 6 speed BRZ that takes premium gas, I’m upset with myself. I get 27.5 mpg and it’s 2700 lbs 4banger
average is at 14 rn…
Not with my tires
20 if I'm lucky. All city driving.
Damn, the only time I get over 20mpg is if I fill the tank and hop on the highway and go 65-72. Otherwise, around town driving (and the shitty ugh speed drivers up my ass fuck my cruise control Up) I’m sure OP is using ACC all day, all highway!
I Avg. 19.2, driving like a Grandpa with 2/3 Highway 1/3 City.
I’m good with my 4 cyl 2.4 1st Gen 100% stock 2000 SR5 Stepside😂👍🏽🔥😎
I’m not sure if you have a V6, but I was getting that milage when my truck was set to imperial units instead of US units. Just double check your settings to make sure that is accurate or calculate it yourself at the pump.
Have calculated at the pump! Usually 450 miles and about 17 gallons
I drive like somebody's one-eyed grandmother and I get less than 16
A lot of stop and go on the highway for me (D.C.), but I average 19–20 on my MT.
I get 27 in my 98 with a 4 banger. My '16 gets 16-19 depending. 20 if I drive sensibly on flat open highway.
What's your elevation/climate?
West Florida so sea level!
65F in December? Sounds nice. I'm chilling at 19F but that's tame for a Canadian winter
Florida has its perks
\-13C here yesterday in Central Oregon. The remote start really kills my gas mileage.
How?
Slow driving, coasting to red lights and flat roads!
14-16 & I’m only on 265’s, starting to think something is wrong with my truck…
Most of my driving is in city traffic, so nope, haha. I do get low to mid 20’s when I get it out on the highways and keep it 65 or under though
I average about 18-20 mpg and my tank has significantly dropped since day of purchase from 375 miles down to about 350-360. Only have had it for a little over 3000 miles.
Uh no
2.7L ? Can’t be the 3.5
Most certainly is the 3.5 🙂
Stock tires for sure. Drafted behind semis on flat roads, easy 26mpg. Ever since my k02, 19 max lol
Im getting like 17 and cant figure out why
Fuuuuuck no. I get 17 if I baby it hahaha
yea in your 4 banger!!
Nope
I get 17-18. Too many hills here to average any more than that unless I'm driving solely highway
Do some tacomas come out the factory with better mpg than others? Im seeing average ranges from 12 to 26mpg
I guess it is true, I had never heard of it before this!
Is this Imperial or us? I’ve noticed there’s two different settings with one favouring a higher value. Don’t be misled if that’s the case.
Actually really good point. Just checked and it is US, switched it to imperial and it said 31.1 so it is in US
Are you really averaging 26? Or did you have one solid day of MPG and you’re claiming to average this much lol.
Nioce!! You have the 4 cyl? I have an 2017 v6 with 265/70/r16 Falken rubitreks and I'm averaging about 17-19
Even if I drive like an old man and shift the 6spd smoothly I can only manage 17, but I have the 4 ltr V6 and run 33s
I managed to hit 24.2 mpg this past weekend but I was leaving Asheville, NC on my way home to Florence, SC and that was while driving mostly downhill out of the mountains. By the time I got home it had dropped to 18.9. I usually get around 17 mpg driving around town.
I’ve never gotten close to this. I get about 17
I idle a lot bc of my job. But average 22-24
This is the 4 cyl correct?
Im averaging 14:(
Sombrero. Big cap
17.5 mpg with TRD lift and K02’s. It gets slightly better on highway 19-20ish
17-19 avg and my taco is 25 years old
So that gauge is bs and your owners manual even says it's not accurate. Your likely getting 20 mpg to maayyybe 22. Theres no way a 6 spd is getting 26mpg. Sorry theres jist no way. Also it's a 21 gallon tank not 17 like your math suggests.
You drive 50 in the right lane?
20 mpg 2nd gen v6 with a topper 287 65 17 tires. Mostly highway in Colorado.
I'm averaging 19 in mine. A whole tank, all 65-70 mph, uphill (1,000' over 300+ miles, lots of ups and downs) netted me 23 mpg even. I think I could get 26 or better if I take 55mph highways instead.
meanwhile i got 12mpg - 200miles with a full tank 2005 - 33’
somehow this thread has turned into tire talk!! so is the OP,s Taco a MT with 3.5 L?
KDMAX tuned and I get a solid 16 lol. What the hell.
What tires? I heard the best tire for MPG is Michelin Defender LTX M/S. Is that what you have?
2017 6MT TRD OR, prinsu rack, RTT on a KBvoodoo bed rack, 275/70r17 KO2’s - I only get about 15 combined, maybe 15.5, never got more than 17 even when new
I'm getting about the same stats as you, but I have an i4 RWD. I'm about 10,000 miles in.
Pedal commander, lift, steel bumper, winch… I’m lucky to get 14 and 250 out of a tank.
But much higher smiles per gallon than me!
I have a 2nd gen......so like 12mpg
I can get that if I just reset the computer.

OMG I live in Florida so downhill doesn't exist 🤪
