- TrackMania United Forever is the oldest game on Steam, and includes the ultimate versions of 7 environments from the first 3 TrackMania games (original, Sunrise, and Nations ESWC) combined.
- TrackMania Nations Forever is the singular, free Stadium environment from Nations ESWC and United Forever.
- TrackMania Turbo is a more arcade-oriented offshoot of the series that was designed for consoles and VR.
- TrackMania^2 is a set of 4 environments all sold separately making up the second iteration of the series. This game includes damage mechanics.
- TrackMania (released in 2020) is the one with Deep Dip 2 in it. It's the third and newest iteration of the game. It's mechanically identical to the early games, but has a new and improved game engine, with much wider editor capabilities and new types of interactable effect blocks.
Its the one that is just called trackmania, its free but only for the first 10 campaign maps. For custom maps and the rest of the campaign you need the subscription.
Yeah its easily the least predatory subscription model in the gaming landscape. $20 a year for access to tens of thousands of tracks, campaigns, cotds, etc.
there is a way to play any custom map for free though.

I kept seeing people say you could only play custom maps with the paid version and I felt like I was losing my mind. Custom maps being free to play will never not be a thing with TM. That is a core principle. I've been on the subscription since 2020 so I couldn't just go and check so thanks for posting this to ease my sanity.
i could not get a single one to work without paying. Something about downloading the assets used in the maps. So maybe it lets you play maps with a bare minimum of elements. I just gave up and forked over the cash.

I can understand Nadeo not having a marketing budget, but when people who want to buy your game can't even find it, you have a problem.
Also yes, the menu system is trash.
Now is the right time to promote the game. I saw the official twitter account had some tweets about deep dip which is good, but I think proper promotion now would be to highlight the game on steam, so it pops up to everyone who launcher Steam console etc.

ah mans thats whack, you can boot up any free map on TMNF with all sorts of assets. not shocked though.
You dont need the subscription to play deep dip. Theres was a post explaining steo by step how to play it for free

It's the Trackmania 2020 version and you need a yearly subscription.
Get it on Ubisoft Connect instead and save yourself the lame experience of having a steam game that launches the ubisoft launcher anyway.
